Tim doesn’t know anything about software development or technology. He’s simply an accountant dressed up as a CEO.
You may not be familiar with apple, but an accountant couldn’t do the job MR. Cook did.
If you want to blame anyone for these issues, blame they’re less than stellar coders.
Stuff happens. And my pro max was not yet delivered, so I’m not sure what I’m in for.

Imagine you’re buying your first iPhone. You’re super excited and can’t wait to try it out. And then BAMN you can’t use it.

And you don’t own a laptop or anything.

Ridiculous.
““To resolve the issue, Apple says customers should select "Connect to Mac or to a PC with iTunes" in the initial iOS onboarding process when prompted to connect to a Wi-Fi network…”
Now read this part closely…
“and then return to the previous screen and try again on Wi-Fi until the activation goes through successfully.”
So… absolutely no laptop necessary.
It’s just a matter of clicking a button, clicking a back button, and then trying over Wi-Fi again.
No computer is actually used in this process.

Here’s a surprise: Apple has partnered with US carriers at least to allow activation process through a free network connection temporarily. Kind of a secret, though. Shhhh.😅

He has the power to hire and fire these guys but sits on his hands.

activating on home WiFi

To bypass it you need to press other options and then press wifi again

Haha yeah I always laugh at the whole "Tim Cook needs to go" talk. It's not like he's the one making every single software update. All these smart people here suddenly forget how large corporations work the minute something goes wrong.
With that said, he should be looking at why the programmers are so poor at their job.

Don’t worry, everyone, this is the most INCREDIBLE iPhone Apple has ever made. Just keep repeating the PR and everything will be alright in the end.

Apple Watch still has a similar bug, it won't activate if you are on 5ghz wifi, at least with Series 5 and 6 it didn't work. Once i disabled 5ghz on my router, the activation process went through just fine. If someone encounters this issue with their new iPhone 14, might be worth a try.

I usually set up my new phones by connecting to my Mac and restore from an encrypted backup so that I don’t have to re-login to everything.

Does anyone know if Quick Start will do the same?

How many different routers are there, how many different hotspots are there, and how many different versions of firmware are available for each hardware? That is just a start of the variables ... There are different ways each open network works and validates users.
right? and this guy claims he's a software developer 😂 @senttoschool can't even figure out scenarios for regression testing outside of the obvious. sounds more like he's an out of touch boomer with no real clue on how much productivity has actually increased overall across the industry due to WFH

I just got my new iPhone 14 Pro and I had 0 problems with activation! 🥳🥳🥳 Transferring the data from my old phone to my new one at the moment

Did you say it was a new phone and then update the software, then go back and restore from backup? Or have you not updated the software and are currently updating from backup then will update. Thx!

My jet black 14 Pro arrived about 30 minutes ago and there were zero issues activating.
Restored from backup and updated to 16.01.
Whole process took about 20 minutes.
Now let's hope my wife's is just as easy.

Got my iPhone 14 Pro around 1:00 PM... no issues activating (AT&T). Did the update and no issues with FaceTime or iMessage either.

So you immediately restored from back up then updated? I’m wondering if I need to setup as new phone, then update, then restore.

I did the same if it helps...
  1. eSIM activated (AT&T)
  2. restored from backup (chose iCloud instead of transfer from previous phone as it's estimated time was faster)
  3. updated to 16.0.1
I agree with @rjohnstone - the whole process took about 20 minutes.

No issues at all. Turned on new 14 Pro Max, eSim activated within about 2 minutes, transferred data directly from my 13 Pro Max. After that was complete, I ran the update. As with other posts, the whole process took about 20 minutes. Makes me wonder how widespread the subject "problem" really is. Or is it just another opportunity for people to panic?
