Lucky you. Must be pretty low res pics, or you don't care about the res when you get them. I have both android and iPhones, and I can't even send things to my other phone at full resolution. I see the difference quite well.

Unless you are printing out the photos as posters and hanging them on your wall, you don’t need to send full resolution photos.

I mean, this was an android App…

Does beeper even have an apple developer account to begin with? the apps they offer are only for android users, so they’d be in the google play store, not apple’s appstore.

Yes. They had to have Apple developer account to get into the detail of how iMessages work. And use the APIs. They basically exploited iMessages using Apple developer tool.

Which involves collecting sensitive information like government issued ID, residential address, social security number or similar, drivers license, bank cards and more, otherwise how can Apple act like law enforcement to ban certain user for life? While we are at it, might as well punish users criticising Apple by remotely erasing their device and seeking legal remedy because you hurt Apple’s feelings.

Never thought I would see the day when private company should have the power of a country to exclude people Apple hate for life effectively.
In this situation, Apple has no choice effectively. They didn’t report this exploit to Apple and this would’ve been massive security breach. Would not be surprised if Apple also goes after Beeper legally to shut them down for good.

Not sure if this post is satire or you actually believe this is going to happen. If it's the latter then a source for this belief would be nice.
It’s not satire. I’m not going post the source because I’m not going to jeopardize the developer’s life with Apple potentially coming after them.

Apple today confirmed that it took steps to shut down the functionality of Beeper Mini, an app that enabled Android users to send and receive iMessages.

Apple emphasized its commitment to user privacy and security, explaining that the move was necessitated by the potential risks Beeper Mini's techniques posed, including metadata exposure and susceptibility to spam and phishing attacks. Apple's full statement shared with The Verge and other news sites is as follows:Beeper Mini operated by intercepting the iMessage protocol using Apple's own push notification service, convincing Apple's servers it was an authentic Apple device. This method, according to Apple, involved the use of "fake credentials," which posed significant security and privacy risks to users. Beeper claims that its process worked with no compromises to encryption or privacy, and the company's documentation says that nobody can read the content of sent messages other than the sender and its recipient, but Apple was unable to verify this and says it posed risks to users.

Following Apple's statement, Beeper CEO Eric Migicovsky expressed his willingness to cooperate with Apple for a security review of Beeper's code to The Verge. He emphasized the importance of secure communication channels between iPhone and Android users, challenging Apple's decision by highlighting the inadequacies of unencrypted SMS for cross-platform messaging. Despite Apple's firm stance, Migicovsky remains committed to exploring solutions that could enable the return of Beeper Mini or similar services.

Definitely needs to be blocked for security concerns but the minimum apple should do is pay them the Bug Hunt reward

I find it ridiculous that the FCC commissioner wants to investigate Apple over Beeper Mini shutdown.

The DoJ as already sniffing around Apple.

The FCC 'piling on' shouldn't be surprising. DoJ is likely looking for any legal angle to pursue and the regulations around the FCC preview are open game.

Add on top of that, it is major election year where there are political 'chips' to be collected for fighting the "mean , old, megacorporation'. Apple doesn't do themselves any relief by tap dancing on technicalities with their EU workarounds. That just invites regulators to nick-pick on other regulations they may have to use against Apple.

FCC investigates lot of complaints, it’s their job. It’s news because of Apple being in the media.

This is stretch.

" ... Apple’s decision to degrade the Beeper Mini functionality that was being provided, which again, encouraged accessibility and usability, ..."

User 'usability and accessibility" are not the same thing as service "interoperability". He is trying to intermingle 'accessibility' semantics with 'interoperability' semantics. As two general concepts detached from a specific context that is somewhat tractable. In the specific context of a legal statue on 'end user accessibility and usability'... it is somewhat 'hand waving'. Apple's 'accessibility' tools work on blue or green bubbles. It doesn't matter what color they are.
