Via iMessage? That's what we're talking about here...
I share Memes, Selfies, and random food pics often through imessage and SMS with no problems whatsoever.

my friend uses a Galaxy S23 Ultra (i am actually happy he is switching to the Pro max FINALLY) and initially i sent him a bunch of pics of me in the christmas dress for my party and then we eventually moved to snapchat for a group chat with some friends because GASP....People under 35 actually use more than one App for communication.

And here's another mind-blowing thing: We are both American.

Hmm .. Everyone can already communicate with everyone else via too many options to name.
True, but texting is extremely common these days -- so much so I can go days without using anything else. I'm a severe introvert, and that does have some bearing on how I communicate, but everyone just usually text's me too.

A argument for a mandated default communication system sounds good, but is at odds with what we know works — even if the process is messy.
Actually, I don't agree. A base communication system really needs to be universal, otherwise not everyone can talk with everyone (or get what they need from businesses). Sure, other ways can be there for those that want or need something more, but the base has to be there. It used to be telephones, but with all the spam calls these days, most people don't even answer the phone anymore. I know I don't unless I recognize the number, and just hope they'll leave a message if it's important. And then there are those that refuse to leave a message! Texting has taken over that role. And in the US, that means iMessage/SMS/RCS.

Ironice you say that. If i can't talk for everyone (fair) then what makes you or others able to talk for everyone and say kids are being bullied over a green bubble.
Because we've seen the stories here that say just that. It's not like we've just made a pronouncement without any backup. Bullying is a big problem in the U.S., and this is one of the ways that bullies have used.
Because from what I am gathering from Macrumors, these aren't kids replying. These are grown adults who are literally bothered they arent getting dates and may be left out of chats because of green bubbles.
You have no clue on this one.

Considering I am someone who is actually in this demographic (Ageing out but still) and has siblings and friends younger than I in the demographic, it is not common place.

Today's generation is more focused on Social Justice issues (rightfully so) so do you really think kids today would allow Classism and elitism over a phone happen? No.

Kids are being bullied unfortunately for stuff that is out of their control and that they are being taught by their families (without getting poltiical).

Androids vs iPhones are highly irrelevant.

As i have said multiple times before, Kids just care about being able to connect to the apps they use and they can do that on both andorid and Ios

Lucky you. Must be pretty low res pics, or you don't care about the res when you get them. I have both android and iPhones, and I can't even send things to my other phone at full resolution. I see the difference quite well.

So it isn't through iMessage. :) Some people that are over 35 (I'm 64) use other apps too, but the kicker is both ends of the conversation have to use the same app, and you can't expect that of anyone.

And here's another mind-blowing thing: We are both American.
Cool, but I kind of thought that by your language.

This hack is quite a weak point in the security and should be rightfully blocked.
I mean it’s pretty jarring. My main take away from this is that it’s embarrassing for Apple and concerning for how weak their security is. Really erodes my confidence in end to end encryption that Apple employe. Doesn’t matter if the encryption is there as long as Apple has the key and Apple is getting hacked like this.

if green bubble users want a blue one , buy a damn iPhone. and don't use some dodgy workaround.
I sincerely hope it’s not being used to get a blue bubble but rather the feature the blue bubble entails. Many people switched to android and prefer it but that personal software decision is made to impact their family by making it hard for them to communicate with them. In many cases their family are older adults or less tech save people that aren’t going to many multiple message apps well. I get the use case. It’s not for most adults bc they want it to be blue.

I never said it was commonplace -- just that it does happen.

Today's generation is more focused on Social Justice issues (rightfully so) so do you really think kids today would allow Classism and elitism over a phone happen? No.
All I can say is it does happen...

Kids are being bullied unfortunately for stuff that is out of their control and that they are being taught by their families (without getting poltiical).
Extremely true these days and I find it quite disheartening! But even when I was a kid it happened, so it's not exactly new, just worse. You might not think it is worse now depending on what those other factors are, some have gotten bullied more over the years than others.

As i have said multiple times before, Kids just care about being able to connect to the apps they use and they can do that on both andorid and Ios
You *can't* speak for everyone by using your own experience, it just doesn't work.

Yet you and the other users here act as if it is commonplace.

It happened when i was a kid (to a degree). I went to a private boarding school so kids were arrogant turds back then if you were wearing hand-me down/donated uniforms lol or their on a scholarship.

Back in 2010 sure elitism about iPhone was rampant thing. Because back then Apple was exclusive to one carrier in the US. So it was a must have thing.

you see why we dont have ppl camping out for iPhones anymore? it's not because they are less popular. They are widely available for everyone at mostly any price point to get and they arent seen as "the it thing" to have.

It's 2024, most people really do not care what phone you have.

I am not speaking for everyone with my own experience.

Stats show that if you ask a 14-26 year old what they use most to chat with friends their first answer is almost always going to be SNAP or Insta.

Most kids usually use SMS/iMESSAGE for their parents or other 'personal' stuff. We live in age where Kids want to be seen and they want to be seen where they can be the most visible.

I agree with your point that a base communication system is necessary, but believe that we already have one in the form of multiple, interoperable systems (iMessage/SMS/RCS as you’ve mentioned plus a host of over the top apps such as Signal, Telegram, WhatsApp, etc.) — which effectively constitutes a robust, decentralized base system. Sure, it is not seamless and frictionless, but it is “good enough”, and provides a framework for independent innovation (which will ultimately resolve the issues we are discussing here without presenting a single point of control/compromise/failure that a mandated core system might).

I also agree 100% that spam is killing the phone which is a shame — 90%+ of the calls I receive are spam and I’m on the do not call register. It’s perplexing that once dominant carriers seem more invested in becoming advertising and entertainment companies, than retaining and restoring their core businesses, brands and legacies as trusted *communications* providers. 🤔

I haven't seen that.
It's 2024, most people really do not care what phone you have.
I agree with most, just not all. And it does make a difference where you live, some areas are more backwards than others. I know I don't care what kind of phone someone has, or even if they don't have one at all. I think they'd be missing out, but it is a choice.
Most kids usually use SMS/iMESSAGE for their parents or other 'personal' stuff. We live in age where Kids want to be seen and they want to be seen where they can be the most visible.
At least you're saying most now, and I can partially agree, but saying all was what I was complaining about. I really don't like when someone implies or says all when I know that is not the case.

I haven't seen that.
Oh trust me. I dont make up or exaggerate stuff.

Grown adults have literally been using that as an excuse on Macrumors. It's laughable really. I of course am not mocking legit mockery but so many android users literally want iMessage just so they can get rid of the shame of using green bubbles.

Perhaps it was a tad hyperbolic but these days it really is not that deep.

We live in the world where Dad bods are in. Guys that look like Pete Davidson and Machine Gun kelly are pulling women like Kim K and Megan Fox.
TImes are changing. Looks and status arent measured the same way they were in 2009. For better or worse

I honestly cant remember the last time i have actually heard my phone ring lmfao.

It is almost always on VIbrate :p if not dead.

but it is “good enough”,
That's where I disagree, it's not good enough for what I want, but it is close I have to agree. The media and group chats being the main problem. I received 2 .mov's and 2 high res pictures in iMessage yesterday, and luckily I was able to view them on my iPhone, but if there were sent to my android phone, I doubt I would have been so lucky. The .mov's were from my sister about her work, and one of the pics was a *fantastic* shot of monarch butterflies covering a whole tree -- there's absolutely no way it could be viewed in less resolution -- it would just look like it was a plain dead looking tree. And since she is on the other coast than me, there's no way I could see it for myself.

RCS will fix my problems with it and it will then be good enough, but we don't have RCS fallback on the iPhone yet, and we don't know when or if it will eventually happen. Apple said they'd do it, but there's no date yet.

(which will ultimately resolve the issues we are discussing here without presenting a single point of control/compromise/failure that a mandated core system might).
I totally agree it can't be just one system! Interoperability is the main thing I desire.

True that.

I only want iMessage on android because of what it can do. I really already have it with Airmessage, but it rankles me that not everyone has the resources to use something like that, and it does have some shortcomings as well.

It would be nice just to use RCS messages on my android phone for everything when I have my android phone, and iMessage when I have my iPhone, but it is what it is.

I'm a member of Whatsapp and other apps, but none of my friends use them. Maybe that will change and it will be the "fix" I'm looking for, but I'm not holding my breath.

Times always change. Keeps things interesting, but it's not always for the better.

Any pics i have sent and received from Android have been quality pics. I think one video i got recently was terrible but i honestly think that was because my friend was using some cheap old android from cricket.

No it’s because you guys were using sms. SMS only allows to send/receive very low quality videos.

It would be nice just to use RCS messages on my android phone for everything when I have my android phone, and iMessage when I have my iPhone, but it is what it is.
And I might add, Apple should have a way of forwarding iMessage messages -- that's been something I've wanted forever and something I have with android. It makes it easier to use 2 phones. Give me that and RCS fallback and I can get rid of airmessage. (Or the need for Beeper's creativity)

Well they already have imessage message forwarding within the apple ecosystem, just not out to other platforms (or should I say ‘to the other platform’ since really the only other existing mobile platform is Android?). Allowing that would be equivalent to apple opening up imessage, which unfortunately they’re willing to die before they do.
