There’s no reason Apple couldn’t release an updated version in the future, and that this M2 model has been discontinued simply because stock has now depleted.

The Pro Display XDR was removed because the Studio Display XDR was mostly superior in all but size, which is to say that once Apple has a technology with bandwidth for 6K at 120hz AND pass-through, it’s not unreasonable to imagine it making a return.

The same can be said for Mac Pro. If Apple thinks it’s worthy to design an enclosure that’s cheaper to manufacture than the 3D honeycomb and reduces the number of expansion slots, then who knows what the future holds.

This sucks. I transitioned from an Intel Mac Pro to a Mac Studio last year. They're not the same. I miss the Pro very much. People who haven't worked in an environment that benefits from workstation architecture don't get it. The Studio is faster in terms of its CPU, but the Pro's internal PCI I/O still completely smokes anything connected to the Studio as a peripheral. You'll never get true TB5 speeds with anything plugged into a port. NEVER.

There's no reason for it, unless they can manage to fuse enough chiplets together to make a chip too powerful to put in a Studio, and even then there probably wouldn't be a market for it.

I mean, why release a tower form-factor then there's nothing to put into it?

The only way there'll be a new Mac Pro is to use it as a vehicle for some new high-end technology Apple don't already have.

They're out of the server market, the Studio is now their AI / high end workstation box. Breakout boxes with thunderbolt connections have replaced PCIe cards. Thunderbolt + NAS has replaced the need for large internal storage capacity.

Apple started hammering the nails in the Mac Pros coffin with the Trashcan, because third party developers had no reason to develop slotted PCIe cards for Mac anymore. Apple went all in with Thunderbolt with the trashcan, and they still are all in with thunderbolt.

Apple’s holiest Mac. RIP holiest of holies.

Can someone PLEASE fire Timmy and the Executive Team? They’re all too old, too rich, and too shortsighted. They fail to understand that you supply workstations, servers, wireless access points, printers, and monitors to get EVERY customer into the ecosystem, paying for monthly services, which is where the REAL money is.
Ah yes, because Apple is clearly bankrupt and not making any money
Why did Bill Gates grasp this in 1980, but Timmy hasn’t figured it out almost half a century later? Some genius.
You know Apple has a literal 1 *trillion* dollar lead on Microsoft’s market cap, right?

I wasn't too concerned about transitioning from Mac Pro to Studio because of the speeds of TB5. I hope you're exaggerating. 🙁

Apple still has the Studio as a workstation, never really took the server market serious, INHO, and the other stuff is basically low margin commodity stuff, except at the high end, and Apple doesn't do low margin commodity stuff.

Gates/MS tries hardware every so often but just can't quite get it right, IMHO.

How many people truly need the theoretical TB5 or PCIe top speed? I suspect the Studio covers enough of the target market to make it a viable product and thus that's what Apple makes.

They started hammering the nails with the NeXT Cube and the G4 Cube, the Trashcan was already following in those footsteps, the Studio was just the first to get it right at the right price point. This type of machine was Job’s goal for high end workstation since before NeXT took over Apple when they bought it to get him back (which makes it particularly amusing to me to see everyone screaming about Cook in this thread)

The Studio should have been a cylinder called Mac Pro, in the 3 pro colours, silver, space grey & space black.

I hate the anti-design ‘stick it in a box’ of all the new Mac products, the Jonathan Ive era will remain peek Apple design, I don’t see that level of detail ever returning to Apple.

When has Microsoft ever made a branded workstation, server, wireless access point, printer or monitor?
