Where you at Samsung?

Yes, this is two phones. It's also 10 countries, not 150. We also haven't seen a single walk in purchase yet.

Only 4 million in 24 hours... Hmmmm

You mean to tell me the site was down because Apple couldn't handle 4 million customers in a day? Eeek! That's not good.

Yes, 4 million people in 24 hours. However, you have to imagine a huge percentage of those 4 million were attempting to order in that first 2-4 hour window. The issues of a million plus people trying to add the same thing to their cart at essentially the same time, all while checking carrier contracts is where the burden on the servers came.

Would love to see a time-line of orders, starting at midnight Pacific time until 24-hours later.

That's a lot of phones in one day! I'm amazed that the demand for the iPhone grows more and more every year.

I'm waiting for the iPhone 6s, when hopefully the "s" will stand for "significantly smaller."

Bear in mind those who bought two just to make their mind up.

You really think that many people could afford to buy two at once? My guess is its a small number and those who weren't sure would wait to buy in store.

Easier said then done. Remember, there were millions probably on the site at the same time, huge amount of them just looking with no intention of buying.

I'm queuing up Thursday night as I do every year, but this has me quite worried about it. I'm going for the smaller 6 though so maybe I'll be ok

Don't get your hopes up. As usual, the 6S will just be an internal upgrade, while the casing will remain the same. If you need something significantly smaller, get the Apple Watch. ;)

Yeah, but Android ships a billion units a month. :D

Wow that's so...irrelevant
This was two models just a few countries and one day of pre orders, not hundreds of devices, (phones, tablets, tv boxes, and whatever else), worldwide, for a month of physical sales.

Apple would be remiss not to thank Samsung for all the work they put in advertising for apple.

From letting customers know before the phone was announced that it was going to be released, to explaining every new feature of the phone in detail for those who didnt know.

Apple needs to hire Samsung for marketing.

Reminded me of this:

But that's double the traffic they got for the iPhone 5. It's no wonder they had some issues.

I think the numbers are a little off;
a) By the people who ordered 6 and 6+ who will return one of the phones (the phone that feels less comfortable in their hand).
b) The people who will turn up on launch day (or later) buy a phone and then cancel their pre order (me).

The iPhone 6s (can't believe I'm talking about it already) will probably feature sapphire glass and have OIS on the smaller model.

That's a good improvement.

I'm confused about people saying the site was down - i'm in the UK, went on the site around 8.30am, loaded up fine, ordered and went through the checkout all ok :)

No. 4 million phones were ordered. Millions more tried to order...
