Excellent news, although I expect we'll see in the coming months that Tim Cook will take over as CEO and Jobs will probably become chairman or something along the lines of being involved in development and strategy of new products. A reduced role for him makes sense seeing as the company did very well without him the last six months.

Steve's next, and last, keynote will be to debut the mythical tablet.
I also suspect he'll pass the reins to Cook by year's end.

Welcome back Steve. Now, can you please launch some new goodies, here's my list:

-New iMac's with LED backlight.
-New iPod Touch
-New Keyboards with black keys.
-New Mighty Mouse with better scroller.

;) That's all.
Oh Lord... ANYTHING BUT BLACK KEYS. they are so ugly. i would rather use a pc for a year then have to be forced to have black keys...

+1 +1 +1 +1 on Steve's return - for him, his family, his friends and Apple.

On Tim Cook - I'm not confident that we have seen the final act. All of Apple's releases over the period Tim has been in his current role evolved with Steve's vision / direction / involvement. The really DIFFERENTIATING role for Apple is not - IMO - manufacturing or quality prowess but design and functionality. Apple's continuing financial performance and stock recovery is primarily a function of the successful product trajectory that has been underway for some time now.

Tim's role in that trajectory - who knows.

If it weren't for the liver transplant I'd say the leave of absence was just Apple trying to prove it can and will survive once Steve Jobs leaves.

I just got my new Macbook Pro and sort of like the black keys. Now the shiny screen, on the other hand, will take some smudging before I like it. I'm tired of seeing myself all the time.

They dangle such choice articles such as "APPLE makes $300-$500 off each iPhone!" then gloat over the "greed"

Guess what the markup is on a 10 cent Microsoft Office 2007 Professional CD? Guess what the markup will be on a 10 cent Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Platinum Home Professional Studio Edition (With Retcin (TM)) CD?

Yet all we hear about from the tech press is Apple's "outrageous" margins.

They hatesssss Apple. They really hatessss them.

Me, I have a black and aluminum iMac with...white keys and a white mouse and a white power cord???

Black keys for me please!

Apple will be smart to keep Steve with a limited role, I think if they put him back in the spotlight it will be harder for Tim Cook or someone else to run the company later. People love Steve and he has done great things for the company but Steve won't be able to run the company forever. I don't think he will hand things over too quickly and he will likely be a part of the company until his death.

Agree.

And with his health issues, no one is going to question the move at this point.

We love Steve for his vision and leadership. He can do that in a more limited roll while others take on the day to day operations.

People stop being so pessimistic. When you keep waiting for storms how can you enjoy the sunshine?

I love this. /steal :D

Now ... about Tim Cook ... don't know much about him, but am chagrined at what I was able to see ... that he worked for Compaq for a while.

take her easy steve, welcome back.

You apple to apple's eye.

Now let's have that mactablet whenever you are good and ready!:D:apple:

i'm very glad to see him back with Apple, he is quite the innovator.

Let's not talk heirs now it's bad luck and bad taste, but while we are at it I really like that software engineering french guy.

It's good to see him back at work, if that's what he chooses to do.
However, unlike most of you here, I can't say I "Love" Steve (and I'm pretty sure Mr. Jobs doesn't love me, either).

Just glad he is back. Really.

Here here to great health for us all. I could use some prayer as I am booing through some serious stuff.

Thank you.

Bloomberg has received confirmation from Apple that Steve Jobs has returned to work at Apple following his liver transplant, currently working part-time at the company's headquarters in Cupertino and part-time from home. Jobs reportedly returned to work last Monday, but today's report is the first confirmation directly from Apple.Jobs announced in mid-January that he would be taking a medical leave of absence until the end of June, and today's report confirms that he has met his target.
