OLED , wireless charging , great , though it's playing catchup with the rest of the industry.

What I'm going to find interesting is all the people who were very vocal about wireless charging being a poor feature, and as soon as its an apple device it will be an awesome feature . The only difference is going to be an even more expansive iPhone and a very expansive charging dock
Wireless charging as it is nothing but a useless gimmick no matter the phone manufacturer. Apple wants to change it so you do not have to put in on a pad. The tech is not ready yet. So you have to compromise. If wireless charging was so important every manufacturer besides a Samsung would have it standard already.

So OLED isn't coming this year? It's going to be a 2018 thing? Really don't want another 6/6S/7 device form factor again.
It's coming to the top of the line model this year. On all phones in 2018.

Keep the cheaply/poorly made Chinese products in China. The other companies are known for high quality displays. If I'm paying close to $1,000 for a phone, I want it to be of the highest quality.

Why are people obsessed about OLED? Wasn't there a lot of articles that OLED is still not really ready to be true successor to IPS as the colour diminishes faster etc.?
Has there been a technological breakthrough that solved this problem and I've missed it or is there something else I'm missing?
I would rather have IPS for another few years until they sort out all the glitches with OLED than to switch too early.

PLEASE APPLE DO NOT USE CHINESE KNOCKOFF SCREENS IN YOUR MOST IMPORTANT PRODUCT!!!!

I'm genuinely curious as to if you have some insider knowledge here or if this is just casual racism because its a Chinese manufacturer?
The only one bringing up race in this thread is you. Besides, when did Chinese become a race?

Now, whether it would be considered a "knockoff" is a valid question.

China supplier???? Trump isn't gonna like this...... LOL

I think you could of just said, "LCD" which it is... Whether it be IPS, VA, TN... Now as far as OLED losing color.. I've never had an iphone more than 2 years.. I usually break them or get the new models... I'm fine with mystery color after years.... besides, I'm sure they would cover that on warranty if it happened early.... Other than that... PEOPLE WANT UPGRADES. They dont want to pay $1000 for the same old recycled crap... Its understandable.

Apple, please sell it only in China.
Why the hate against Samsung? You know that flash drive in your iPhone? 50% chance is made by Samsung. You know that screen in your iPhone? 50% chance is made by Samsung. You know that RAM in your iPhone? 50% chance is made by Samsung.

For anybody who puts their iPhone in a case the form factor is not an issue.

For anybody else: What is it you expect?

It has to have a screen (edge to edge or whatever it will be) and 4 corners
(Wait , maybe it should have more corners or be round or corners lopped off?)
Corners should be rounded , so there are no sharp edges.

That leaves the edges, which can be straight like the 4 (best design ever, but oh the outcry, Apple repeats itself)
or being chamfered in a variety of angles or rounded.

Without a case I find the current form very slippery.

To base a purchasing decision on a form factor? tztztztztz

People are going to return their phone when they find out their OLED display is not made by Samsung

Doubtful, but it would be funny if the Chinese OLED is better than Samsung's. Remember when people complained about not getting a Samsung chip vs TSMC? It turned out that the chip from TMSC was better, lol.

The person you were replying to was suggesting that Apple should only sell the China made displays in China.

Actually, that doesn't happen any more either, because of clever tricks such as making the blue LEDs slightly larger than necessary and running them at less power. Another trick is that the display code keeps track of blue usage and increases the output where necessary over time to compensate for any LED decay.

When can we get rumors of OLED iPads? Thinking about that makes me quite moist.
Gross. The word "moist" is the worst, lol.

I hope they massively overhaul the iPad this year. It needs it. I'm also looking forward to OLED on MBP, or perhaps mLED. I just don't want color reproduction to be compromised, as the iPhone consistently outclasses all other devices when it comes to color.

What about the OLED panel is a knockoff?

I'm genuinely curious as to if you have some insider knowledge here or if this is just casual racism because its a Chinese manufacturer?

I mean, the iPhone itself is assembled in China and always has been across the iterations so I really don't understand why the location of the screen manufacturer is a problem.

But yeah, please do let me know.

Assembled? Try built.

"I'm genuinely curious as to if you have some insider knowledge of them being built elsewhere and assembled here or if this is just casual racism to belittle where they are built because its a Chinese manufacturer?"

Touché, eh?

Actually racism is spewed far too much these days and used incorrectly by people that have no clue what it means. Chinese is not even a race.

Rest assured, that Apple will choose the component that meets their standard with the highest value to price ratio.

How people here think they know far better than experts working at Apple and mock a Chinese supplier is beyond me. Maybe they all hold a PhD in EE and have worked in the industry for 20 years.

Wherever they source the parts from, Apple needs to be actively involved in quality control and in every part of the production and training. Apple has lately begun to slip on this front.

Really? Would you like to try managing their supply chain? :) Pretty sure one of the world's most valuable companies with billions in net profit each year has a pretty good grasp on quality control.

Bwahahahaha. Thanks Tim, now back to raising the profit margin for the investors.

There have been threads of people checking where a screen or chip was made because of differences so I guess their standard has a broad range.

One would think. Chipping anodization, spotty screens, etc. seems to point out that can be a problem. Billions in net profit also does not mean thet have great wuality control. Profit margins, of which apple has the highest, comes in to play.

Someone is payed well to manage their supply chain so remarks like "how would you like to.... are childish".

I'll bite though. I'd love to do it for the pay. Now go ahead and broker the deal mr Insider.

I guess based on samsungs profits their exploding phones are just fine? Not a problen? Couldn't possibly be a quality control problem?

What i would give for a...
-3.5" OLED iPhone
-no camera bump
-2-day battery life.
-headphone port
-better music/ipod app

*sigh*...one can dream.

Even though i never owned one, aesthetically speaking, the iPhone 4/S was the best looking IMHO

Especially that part, although I did own one. The 4s was my favorite iPhone design. IMO, it was the most beautiful and the most unique designed phone, not just iPhone...

This is true.

It happens all the time on MR (or any other forum), it is basically trolling, trying to get reactions from people, but reporting it usually doesn't work.

What does realeric's post have to do with Samsung? Maybe you miss understood it. Or maybe I did.

Seriously.

Pretty sure implying a company produces 'knock offs' with no evidence because they are based in China is.. if not racist in itself, is a comment laced with negative stereotypes.

I don't think that's accapetable, but to each their own.

OLED has not even made it's debut on an iPhone and you want it on a large display surface (iPad) and laptop. Better late than never, I guess. If we see this on the 2018 iPad or sooner, colour me shocked.
