I think its far more likely they'd drop the iPod Touch price to $199 before any 7" device hits that price point.

I wouldn't be surprise if it did and then have the iPod nano, shuffle and classic categories reworked into the rumored "iWatch" device category alongside the iPod Touch. They could name it the iPod Watch or iPod SmartWatch at that point. Sell it starting at $99? At that price, if you didn't own an Apple device before, chances are you'll be interested in the iPod Watch now. Knowing how they drive an ecosystem among their products, they'd love the potential for a halo effect here where the iPod watch becomes a sort of controller for the Apple TV, paring device with your iPhone/iPad, so on.

I say this is definitely a possibility. A price drop on the current iPad mini when a new model (probably with retina) gets released. Makes sense!

how are ipod touch sales doing because i think i wouldnt have bought a ipod touch with a mini sitting there at 199

No rear camera = useless... and 8GB for an iPad? really??? This is completely crazy....

it's a tablet, not a camera.

It's probably the thing that annoys me most about tablets - that useless camera on the back. I already have a phone and standalone camera for that stuff, no need for one on my tablet.

im pretty sure they would just call it iwatch....

An 8GB iPad without a SD card slot would be considered a useless piece of crap.
If 16GB is barely usable, now imagine 8GB!

I don't believe this rumor is true. It better not!

If we see such low price points, I'd buy one on the day it launch's, I'd even preorder it. But I'm doubtful that will happen.

But If it did there is no question Apple would canabalise all other tablets near that price range.

Your "first class" Apple product still uses Samsung parts and is build in China.

Assembled in China. So what's wrong with this! Who cares jobs have gone in the Western World and all products have subsides applied by the Chinese government so they cut prices below Western world produced products.

I do

The iPad mini should have never been produced just like Steve Jobs said. Their are cheap products made by other suppliers for those who like cheap products. Apple should never bring cheap products to the market.

I'm predicting more of $249 for the "entry" level (current gen) model and the newer Retina with a 32nm (or is the new one they're testing 24nm?) A5X at $329.

I wonder if the A7 will be able to power the Retina sans the discrete graphics chip...

What's cheap about the iPad mini?

Oh and what say you about the iPod shuffle?

Oh please no....
Apple, if its customers you're after, it's not the price that's stale, it's the hardware/software.

I can agree with this. While I do think the iPad mini is overpriced, it's not the price that's the issue. It's the under the hood stuff.

Android users don't use iOS because they simply don't like it. Improve on iOS, adjust the specs/price, then you might get switchers. Until then, you're just wasting your time.

Wow, you guys are funny!

Yeah sure, average people choose Android-based smartphones not because they are cheaper, but because they're excited by the feature set and they really like it, lol. Are either of you familiar with the term specious reasoning? :D

If it sells for $229 it will be Apple's best selling iPad. Sales of the full size will fall drastically, IMHO. People will buy because of price.

Not me, it the smaller size I am looking at for travelling with. I already own an iPad 2 and love it, but we are about to do a world trip for 2 months and the smaller iPad mini will take up less room. So we are buying the 32G 3G model, cost is NOT the only thing in play.

If Apple is already complaining about low margins on the current Mini, they aren't going to drop it by $50.
I agree, which is why I only predicted a $40 drop (if you had checked the math ;)). That's the maximum I think Apple would accept for the current iPad mini as manufacturing costs drop with experience and volume.

iPad sales were up 65% YoY in the 1st quarter, so price apparently isn't an issue.

They were up 138% in China which is a price-sensitive market. I fully agree with you.

I also think that everything Kuo says sounds completely unlike Apple. Why produce a crippled device to shave of $70 from the price tag? Only thing that would make sense is poly-carbonate shell and that would not save much money.

Going with no camera affects developers since they can't rely on the presence of a camera. Also, since iPad is all about apps, you cannot ship an 8GB model without crippling it.

Apple usually doesn't increase the price, they add new features for the same price.

Yeah that was before, the way it used to be.

But I'm afraid you haven't been watching closely enough for the last 2 years. Nearly all prices went severely up on almost all products, while new features, if any, were added as expensive options (like Fusion Drives and Retina). At the same time, we got less ports and slower drives, i.e. less features.

Not exactly a customer-friendly price policy.

A plastic iPad mini after they already introduced an aluminum one? Um, no, not happening.

16 gig memory dont cost that much they should keep the 16 gig sell it at 249 dollars.

I think they will keep this iPad mini when the new one comes out and make it cheaper, with the new retina model taking over the current price point, kinda like what they do with the iPhones. Otherwise introducing a "iPad Micro" would just be plain stupid...

I would pay today's price for the retina. Said that before, this aint' gonna change that.
