This will kill the Full sized iPad sales going with everyone's thought on the price reduction.

I still prefer the full sized iPad

There is no merit to this at all. I wouldn't be surprised if the ipad mini 1 drops in price, but its not going to be a fire sale. People should know better.

No, I think the shuffle will be discontinued. An iWatch will take its place but at a higher price point ($79 or more). Until the iWatch debuts Apple will leave the shuffle alone and freeze it at 2GB. Or discontinue it altogether before the iWatch if they drop the nano to $99.

While i agree with quite a lot of the other things you mention, i think you got the price of an iWatch wrong.

That thing will most likely expand upon the iPod Nano.

Just think of the 6th Gen iPod Nano with the many different watch bands available for it and the 7th Gen iPod Nano with (for an iWatch) necessary additions like Bluetooth.

(The iWatch could also be one of the reasons for the drastic change in design from the 6th to the 7th Gen - because a year after the introduction of the 7th Gen, there won't be a need for an iPod Nano that could be turned into a watch, as the iPod Watch will become a full product - Apple splitting the iPod Nano up into an iWatch branch and a branch that is using a more regular iPod design)

The iWatch will built upon many features introduced in the iPod Nano range - sensors like the pedometer, the small, sometimes even watch-like, formfactor and Bluetooth connectivity.

Price: iPod Nano-like, most likely with a premium for added features and some leeway to be able to sell earlier models for a lower price in the future.

199$ or 249$.

If they add some features that nobody thought of yet that make it a game changer like the iPhone, then even a higher price could be reasonable.

Apple need to realise they are no longer what they used to be; a smaller company producing desirable items but at a price, trying to upset the apple cart (so to say) of the big boys like Microsoft. Apple are a major league player and as such, have to compete with other major league players on price; else customers go elsewhere!

How many times must Steve Jobs or Tim Cook say "we won't build a piece of junk" before "analysts" stop throwing crap around like cutting storage and removing a camera? I can never think of Apple removing useful items from a product just to shave off a few bucks. Plus, as someone else mentioned, 8GB is nowhere near enough storage. That's as ridiculous as suggesting selling a computer with 512MB RAM.

Mac fans, pay attention please!

There is two worlds:
1. Apple with people who want create great products and who don't think about money at the time.
2. Other companies, that copy great products, makes it smaller, bigger, brighter, cheaper and so on, but not thinking about quality. They thinking about money.

People who not Apple fans can't see difference between this two world. When you read that some analyst say "more affordable iPad mini to compete with Android products". It's mean that this guy from world #2 and he's not really understand Apple goals. People from world #2 trying measure world by money.

All Apple guys saying every time "we don't care about sales, we want create the most amazing products".

Maybe you forget some facts?
1. Apple invent smartphones with touch screen (without stylus).
2. Apple created retina display, not Android-like companies.
3. Apple embedded Siri. Not Samsung with "S Voice" (Siri voice??).
And so on.

Apple just don't care on this non-professional losers. And they don't trying to fight with this #2 world.

When you step down from your cloud of Apple happiness you will realize that even Apple has come to realize that the real profits will come from the race to the bottom of the pyramid - that market is bigger - not maintaining the happy few on the high-end - these "happy" few will become the try-out crowd for new products -- you know, pay premium prices for half-baked products.

Your facts are just that; your facts :)

low cost products

So, this is going to fall in line with the "low cost" iphone they are selling ?

Only different is the low cost ipad will be worldwide, and not restricted ?

I would be glad if they got rid of the rear camera, for lowering cost, since you pay the price for a good camera phone anyway. No complaints people :)

Never owned an ipad mini myself, so i'll just say the Retina ipad 3 is the best even, seeing as the mini is the same size... its only lighter, and non-retina with lightening connector,, not a big deal...

For me those, screen is everything, even if it means slightly more weight.

The only thing keeping me away from the Macbook Pro Retina is the price tag.. :p

Wot, no camera?

I doubt that very much. Say what you like about Apple's sluggish innovation, but taking a backward step like that would be crazy. Who is this guy that his guesswork deserves coverage?

I've honestly never cared about the iPad. I have never supported that part of Apple. I've always thought that they should spend that money on making their computers better. I remember back when Apple was about computers and iPods instead of iPads and iWatches.

I did laugh when you said "I remember when...". I've caught myself said that recently, and it only means one thing.

Dagnabbit!! Why you young whippersnapper with your new fangled Laptops, What's wrong with a good ole' Macintosh Quadra 650. Why I'll beat you with my cane!

In all seriousness, They have created a content device and will always need a form of computer, be it laptop or desktop to create that information - Who knows where it will actually go in the future. AR Headsets instead of flat screens with Floating Windows like Iron Man is what I reckon is the way forward, Wirelessly linked to your Main machine or probably we are going to full cloud. Why have a machine at all. It's only input and output. Could be effectively a dumb terminal with all the software on a cloud based machine and you could have access to all the power you will ever need... need more Processors up your subscription.

Think of Apple and you think of quality high end products. If they start trying to plug gaps in the market with cheap versions of its products Apple will become like every other company and its brand will suffer. A company's brand is its biggest asset. Apple knows this, they aren't about to destroy all the hard work over the last ten years by producing cheap crap.

Nope.

The biggest asset of Apple is the OS and the ecosystem.

Apple is at a turning point. People don't care for innovation. The iPad mini sells like hot cakes, even though it's internally nothing more than a two-year old iPad 2. The iPhone 4 and 4S are still very popular.

Their products have become 'good enough'. So what do you do when people don't want to pay premium prices? You expand market share buy making cheap iPhones and iPads. Those are not the best, but they certainly are good enough.

It makes so much sense when you look at it that way. Besides, it's nothing new. Apple has done exactly the same with the iPod.

Times of insane profit growth are over. Profit growth will probably remain flat or in single digits the coming years. However, sales will keep increasing.

This is Apple. The current iPad mini's price will drop a little only, maybe around $50, and the new iPad mini will probably be more than $329. Sub-$200 ipads? What were these analysts smoking. The mini is super popular even at its current price. They have no reason to lower the price point. In fact, now that they have (or will have) an older gen iPad mini at a sub $300 price point, they can charge more for the new iPad mini. And lets face it. You're still going to buy it.

It's the short-term stock value that counts.

This makes no sense. This is not something that I see apple doing. No rear camera?? Come on man.

8Gb and no rear camera is an almost sure way to reduce cost of a device,

Most people with iPads use the front camera for Facetime, the rear camera almost never, or even never, i know with both my iPad 3 before it and my iPad Mini i have never once had the need or urge to use the rear facing camera, i use my iPhone for that, the iPad is just too large to use as a "camera" comfortably.

Noob.

Not sure what the Noob, was about?

What device did they remove Lit Keyboards from? The only one I can think of was from Air V1 > V2 - that was technical reasons to begin with. there was no space. The update rejigged things around and had even smaller components so they could add the light blocks.

matte screens, again were a choice not a cost. Definitely the wrong choice though at the time. The Retinas have fantastic screens even though they are glossy, with almost as good anti-reflective qualities as mattes - but more Colour trasmission

The remote is interesting, Probably because there are other options bluetooth and WiFi. And Front row was embedded with Quicktime 7... And again there are much better free options. Plex, XBMC etc

No iPad or iPhone should come with less then 16GB and even that is pushing it for being too limited. They use memory (every company) as a marketing ploy as something to upgrade or go cheap on when another 8GB is next to nothing, going from 64GB to 128GB is one thing, 8GB to 16GB would be insanely cheap, just one of those easy ways they know they can get people. (Again, all tech companies)

Of course, but how far can it possibly be reduced that way? I imagine the rear camera costs the producer around 10 bucks, add another 10 for the price differential between 8 and 16 GB.

I wonder how much it really is, I would not be surprised if it was even less then ten.

Well you just knocked 10% of the cost right there... given it was estimated at $188 cost to make a 16gb iPad. And there are other ways to reduce costs, Given that orignal design is a major cost factor

And depreciation of the original component costs should bring it down more... that screen was $80, probably $60 a year on.

"...remove the rear camera, cut storage to 8GB..."

Those are two moves I don't see happening. Silly or not, people love taking photos with their iPads and 8GB is a joke these days.

8 GB is a joke, yes, but some people only use their iPad for surfing the web and reading e-books anyway. Oh, and playing Angry Birds.

I salivate at the thought of a retina mini. Current mini is amongst the best gadgets I've ever bought and rarely leaves my side, but maaaan it'll be so much better with more ram and a better screen.
