They're advertising "Deigned by Apple in California" in a Canadian paper???:confused:

"Designed by Apple in Canada" would be a lie, wouldn't it?

Seriously, I think "Designed in California" will be much more appreciated than "designed in the USA" in most parts of the world.

We have had the advert as a double page spread in UK newspapers including The Times which I get. :)

Nice. I'm seeing the commercial on TV a lot too. Thankfully haven't been seeing many Samsung ones, unlike last year when every other commercial was a Galaxy one.

I like this add and agree with other posts that this is classy. The only thing that has been odd to me is the designed in california slogan. What ever happed to made in the USA? Why the focus on the state? Whateve I guess, just a little odd. Overall I think the adds as well as the products are going in the right direction -- clasy.

I'm not so sure this is a good idea. It can work both ways. California has that cool vibe through Hollywood, etc. But it also means "American". What happens when America isn't so popular? Sales will dip. They should keep it more universal so it appeals to everyone wherever you are around the world.

I don't see why they needed to change anyway. The iPod ads won universal praise. The iPad ads have always been excellent. I think Apple's best ads are the ones with no voiceover - it's just the product, upbeat music and words on the screen. Ditch the stupid "it makes you feel" voiceover nonsense. We can all see when someone is happy, contented, in love, enjoying their music, etc.

I'm really not liking some of the changes Cook is making.

Given all of the bad reputation built up by the Bush (junior) administration around the "USA" name, it's a very wise choice to say "in California".

I like these new ads. Some of the latest ipad ads over here were getting a bit cheesy so its good to see some class back from apple.

I like these ads in general. But this one in particular looks like a guy from ten years ago who runs with an iPod, plus he's tired and beat-down by life.

It looks like the copy should read, Apple. Beat down by Samsung, the stock market, and Google, but we're still standing.

Long as it may seem (relatively speaking), this is such a classy, fantastic advert among all categories not just brands. One needn't be a fanboy or a brand enthusiast to love these. I wonder when I saw such an ad, an experience last time?! There is so much noise pollution, clutter, chaos, attention grabbing out there and then there's this. This is it! :)

But Apple is an American company headquartered in California and proud of their Californian roots. I guess I'm not sure why anyone would be offended by that. And I highly doubt someone is not going to buy an Apple product because the people who designed and engineered it live and work in the United States.

Whether you like Apple or not you have to admit that the Apple brand is powerful. People only need a small glimpse of the white earphones and they know it's Apple.

You are correct, Apple brand is top notch... marketing campaigns sure do work - People only need a small glimpse of the white earphones due to the #1 Campaign ever created... it is what made Apple race to the top. It will be what Apple can actually claim as the turnaround point for their marketing team.

They grew exponentially in the years right before the iPhone debut... all because of the cheap price point of the iPod allowing the consumer to adopt to the Apple ecosystem with a kick@ss marketing campaign.

Never forget this ad/campaign... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQw3mVWXncg

Ooo I liking this a lot. This ad sort of got the spirit of the "think different" campaign. The difference is back then apple is the underdog.

I don't see why anyone would have an issue with them mentioning California either. It's where they are from… it's where they are choosing names for future versions of OS X…

Though it would be funny to eventually see an ad that said:
"Designed by Apple in Hawaii (we were on vacation but we had this really cool idea...)"

The best ideas are written on napkins!

apple, please almost double your iphone screen surface area. give potential customers a choice of an iphone mini and the big one. you have very successfully almost halfed your steve jobs's original ipad screen size (i hear some spinning and nail filing). it might double AAPL stock back again. think, and think again, it is not what you deem is important for your customers, it might actually depend on what many expect from you.

Design by Apple in California by English, German, French, Chinese, Canadian, etc... and all those people working at Apple that are not from California...

Fixed for them.

The words worked when I saw the video during the WWDC keynote, but printed out like this, there are places where it feels repetitive, like it could have been tightened up a bit more.

Definitely classy ... I like how Apple isn't trying to take any shots at its competitors. Pretty stark contrast to Samsung's "Next Big Thing" ads of late.

These are definitely better. However in their iOS 7 video during the keynote I noticed the part where they were showing off Airdrop looked like one of those Samsung commercials with similarly dressed hipsters sharing data on their phones. I'm sure it was deliberate and thought it was pretty funny.

Oh right, because Canadians are so small-minded they can't possibly accept the notion that a well-designed product could come from outside their borders.
