It seems everyone does nothing but complain about how bad Siri & Apple Intelligence is, and then when Apple delays the release of something I genuinely think they thought they'd have done by now, in order to get it right, most people here are still just bad mouthing them; claiming they're intentionally scamming us, covering their tracks, and working out ways to sidestep this and hope everyone forgets about it. Apple is doing what so many people on here have been asking Apple to do; wait until it's ready before releasing it. But since this site seems to no longer be a "Mac Rumors" site, but a "lets just complain about everything Apple does" site, I guess I can't say I'm surprised. Delaying the release of things is not uncommon for any company to do. It doesn't mean they were intentionally scamming us, or that they're incompetent. It means it's a complicated piece of software, and apple doesn't want to release it before it's ready. And if it's AI features that a lot of people on this site claim they don't even want/use, I don't see what the big deal is.

They just announced too soon, and sold a line of hardware on false promises.

That used to apply to Apple and I buy into that most times.

This is not the case unfortunately.

It is one thing to keep schtum and stun the world with a fabulous new product… and an altogether different thing to preanounce and then having to backtrack.

This is just bad and looks as if the adults in charge have been asleep at the wheel.
Preannounce and use it to sell devices. The devices were not billed as “Built for Apple Intelligence In At Least Two But Otherwise Unspecified Number of Years From Now.”

yes apple screwed up but you all are missing important context. they focused their AI in self driving cars for the past decade. once apple axed that project, their AI talent got refocused into other things now

the problem is that they advertised it as an OMG amazing iphone 16 feature buy now not a ‘hey, we wanted to share our vision for Siri. this is what we had in mind: we’re working on it and we’ll announce more in the coming year.’

I guess the outrage is good for engagement. Delays happen.

I'm not sure about ya'll but I would prefer somewhat good features over half-baked concepts of features.

But you're implying that Apple knew this wasn't gonna be ready, but said it anyway just to sell more iPhone 16's. A false promise would be if they were advertising all these AI features, without ever intending to release them. We know Apple is working on this and is going to integrate these features into their OS's as soon as they can; it's just been delayed. Now I agree that it was better when Apple would have things pretty much done already before announcing it, but most software companies don't do that anymore. They want to "build up the hype." So they talk about what's coming up in the pipeline.

Lmao Apple just scamming and scamming us.
This is worse than Apple Maps at this point
Tim Cook this is your legacy.
Oh come on. They talked about a specific part of a feature and it turned out to be a bit more complicated, likely because of privacy issues, than they thought. Meanwhile the rest of the tech world makes promises about AI that are usually false and misleading. And never admit it.

I really suspect they need an LLM for most of their upcoming features to work.
As long as they don't implement this, Siri will continue to be useless and frustrating.

Tim has outlived his usefulness with Apple. People are frustrated because the board of directors doesn’t see it.
He outlived his usefulness in 2012.

Tim Cook this is your legacy.

i'm not a big fan of apple's shortcomings, but y'all are acting like somehow tim cook overall looks bad. if you check out apple's value as a company since steve's death through to now, its share prices have climbed enormously, and the company's market cap is in the trillions.

tim cook has done a great job as ceo, on the consumer level there's not so great things. but for him, his duty is to make sure apple is profitable so shareholders are happy, and thus their board is happy.
