Absolutely disgraceful.

We need a total freeze on ”new features” for at least two years, destroy the current bloated codebase and stop all the emoji, memoji, AI nonsense.

We need to fire Federighi along with every single marketing clown that keeps on pushing pointless feature fluff year after year.

And most importantly, we NEED to bring back Scott Forstall and Bertrand Serlet to make Apple software GREAT AGAIN!
Turns out Forstall and Serlet were the canaries for the declining quality, and I remain adamant that Maps was a convenient excuse to can a divisive personality (he was by all accounts very much like Steve) that didn't go with the toxic positivity taking root in Apple. He was blunt and had grounded opinions.

Let's just be happy they can't "disable RAM" with an OTA update

The RAM bumps are the best thing to have come out of the Apple Intelligence "era" so far

Imagine that they get plenty of analytics and there are angry people over there "Sir they aren't using Apple Intelligence, they're just slurping up extra RAM, we got played and gave them the RAM for nothing!"

iPhone 16: Built for Apple Intelligence.
Apple Intelligence: Not yet built.
Yup, pretty much

What an embarassment

I mean, I get it; Apple has always been the one to not be first to anything as they take the time to perfect it

It would seem that they were trying to do that as they always do, but somehow along the way they hit some kind of stumbling block to the point where it sounds like they should just take what they have now for AI and just start over

What’s the matter with iOS 18? It’s a pivotal release offering new features.
I think most people are bashing it because of Apple overpromising and underdelivering so far with Apple Intelligence

Me, I couldn't care less about it because only 1 of my devices I have can utilize it, and the rest of my devices don't

And for what I do get right now with AI on said supported device, most of it is things that has already been around for years now

The only problem I have with any of this is that they've reduced themselves to constantly advertising things that aren't ready (and in this case, not even remotely close)

It's the lowest of lows on "sales tactics" and I think we all thought and hoped Apple was above this.

It's really disappointing and it also now makes one, understandably, question anything they say or market to us moving forward.

It's really hard to get your credibility back once you're exposed as a "BS-er"

You know, I'd be kind of shocked if there isn't one (or a few)

Honestly, they kind of deserve to get hit with one as so far with Apple Intelligence, they clearly overpromised but so far have underdelivered
I'd be shocked if the binding arbitration in their EULA that everyone taps when they set up their phones, along with Apple's stable of Nazgûl lawyers haven't already planned for every eventuality. It is written:

One EULA to rule them all, One EULA to find them, One EULA to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them

A new paper from MIT (https://people.csail.mit.edu/rrw/time-vs-space.pdf) finds that at least some computation can be done using less memory than previously thought, while still achieving the same speed. Maybe this will help device manufacturers if they find that the minimum amount of RAM they put into many of their products in hopes of implementing larger on-device AI models, as in Apple's 8GB, turns out not to be enough to achieve decent speeds.

The MIT paper is explained in less technical terms in a New Scientist article, but it's behind a paywall, but I'll risk being sued by excerpting most of it here:

I don't think it's a memory limitation. It's an issue of compute power - a larger, more complex model will simply need to run on the Neural Engine longer, meaning it'll take longer to generate a response in addition to consuming more battery.

Siri becomes much less useful if a response takes 45 seconds and eats 5% of your battery.

It’s a forum so everyone gets to say how they feel, but I’ve been on this forum for almost 20 years and I’m thinking of signing off and not coming back as it has gotten so toxic here. Apple isn’t free from criticism but it just feels like it’s non stop.
Mostly, I think it's disappointment. We've drunk the Apple KoolAid, and now they're not delivering on the innovation/industry-leader brand. It seems like there every other company has better AI agents everywhere, and that's not a space we're used to occupying as Apple-stans.

Agreed. Firing Forstall and Serlet is going to be looked back as one of the worst things ever in Apple's history.

what an embarrassment.
Did you REALLY expect ANYTHING LESS?!!

Look who's running the software division and tell me what REAL stellar innovation or advancement really helped the entire OS better more useful or more secure [Emoji's and any other dumb form of that does NOT count] and really helped end user experience?!

This move is Apple trying to avoid a serious false advertisement class action!

NONE of these advertisements specifcally stated that such a feature was coming soon in any way!
Why was Apple marketing team allowed ot do this when such feature NEVER was coming in a few months nor even available?!

How many product sales decisions was actually affected?!
This is the house that Tim brought!

If Jobs were around he would have fired multiple departments for careless nonsense likethis.

Modern Apple are in on the joke.
Exactly!

Why are not heads ROLLING for this - after over a YEAR of constant mistakes, failures, and setbacks!

Hmmm who was it that contributed MORE than ANYONE else at Apple the following and yet kicked out for either the software design teams mistakes in understanding vectore Map points OR the 3rd party source company for providing corrupted data of vector map points yet FORCED to make a public appology for something he himself NOR his team ACTUALLY was at any fault for?!

Forstall:
iPhone OS which evolved under HIS Design and direction iOS!
Time Machine - EVERY mac user actually benefits and has benefitted of this!
Apple's Push Notifications - a collaboration with the internet team.
Siri acquisition - in its initial 5yrs was stella and beyond anything any competition even thought of nor did!
He was thrown out for Maps?!

NOT ENOUGH PUBLIC COMPLAINTS from iphone and mac users is being done nor considered by TIm!
After ALL the BS HYPE that Federighi did to bring Ai to Apple he's in HIDING and protected while sucking BIG behind closed doors! ENOUGH is ENOUGH CAN THIS clown!

Sounds like this is getting moved to the new OS. Its March, and anyone who bought an iPhone 16 will get $25-50 in a few years time when Apple settles the lawsuit that will come out because of this.
Man stop drinking the long expired and tasteless Kool Aid. Its not going your brain any good. stop forgiving endless mistakes on a single software service that continues to NOT live up to its name. This is from THE industry leader from the consumer leader. Do NOT continue to accept this! demand better! You've paid for it!
This is definitely starting to look a little embarrassing for apple isn’t it!

I don’t understand how a tech company can be so far behind the tech curve. It feels they were so preoccupied with Vision Pro they missed AI altogether.
STARTING?! SERIOUSLY?

Its BEYOND embarrasing and has been over a year now! stop drinking that damaging Kool-aid!

October 29, 2012 Forstall forced out

Imagine what more Forstall could bring to Apple and its consumers if he was Not forced out!
over the years this looks more and more like a personal issue between Cook and Forstall or revenge.
while consistent and continued failings of Apple Ai bragged about by Federighi - who's been completely silent and in hiding as NOT been forced out YET! He's made more ridiculous mistakes and

NOTHING he's done has brought overal advances to Apple's OS and betterment for end user exerpeince like Forstall had.
Apple intelligence….not so intelligent after all…

At this point the service name itself is false advertising!

Lmao Apple just scamming and scamming us.
This is worse than Apple Maps at this point
Tim Cook this is your legacy.
Much MUCH worse than Maps.

A person was kicked out for not apologizing public for a mistake he nor his team made!
Map waypoints and vector data was corrupt from the sourced 3rd party. thus the software team under his leadership made mistakes and it was the 1st iteration of Maps! Less than 6 months this vengeance and hate on a PERSONAL level from Cook [recall the countless rumors that Forstall vs Cook was up for CEO].

How many mistakes over double the timeframe of Maps has continued and under Federighi's team has occured and WHERE is that big mouth bragger [he brought Ai to Apple right] has been through all of this?!
not ONE public statement
not ONE apology made nor forced upon him.
not ONE public appearance SINCE!

So who's protected and yet to bring force an OS, a FULL product or service that is part of the infrastructure and benefits Apple's customers all around [Time Machine, Apple Push Notifications, Siri acquisition - great in its initial 5yrs]!!!

Personal context was by far the most exciting Apple Intelligence feature to me. Being able to ask it questions like what someone said when about what… that’s true integration with my life without having to pay and let Google or someone profit off the back of the data. However…. I’m more excited than ever for WWDC 2025 and the next iOS.

You've greatly misread my comment. In no way am I saying Apple is not at fault for this. I've continously said they need to start being held accountable, and that they need to stop announcing features that aren't ready.

Also its flavoraid.

And you believe Apple hasn’t?

lol

Just about every company you financially interact with has a collection of "your data" - your name, address, payment details, etc.

The question is not who has data, but who collects it for the purpose of selling it to third parties.

Saying all companies collect data is to completely ignore their motives for doing so.

According to this article, Apple may be attempting to solve an unsolvable problem in AI.

Essentially, Apple want to give AI the "keys to the kingdom", ie access to all your info and apps, but at the same time, they are trying to make it completely secure, which is notoriously difficult with LLMs because they are vulnerable to prompt injection attacks.

If Apple is unable to solve this issue, where do they go next with AI? Have they painted themselves into a corner?
So far Apple hasn’t gone nowhere and Samsung is using the same approach as Apple promises. It’s impossible to have all the LLM’s on your phone and the LLM’s are constantly getting updates with no end in sight.

Let Apple first focus on a workable smart Siri. If that doesn’t work the “command center” is dead on arrival.

Every big player on the market have already conversational smart assistants. You would assume that after 15 years Apple would be able to have one too. It’s a key element for a lot of services and can be very useful when done richt.

I’m always surprised how little progress there is with Apple today compared to the time Steve Jobs was ceo. Apple was a tenth in size but introductions of newer gear and updates seems much faster.

The above is a bad opinion. You may not like what Apple has accomplished but clearly there more than “a little progress”.
So what progress did Apple make to get behind in software compared to their competitors. Getting behind with their mobile phones? And seeing their shares dip big time:
