Typical of People Buying Apple Stuff

I would not be surprised if people buy it without knowing what they are buying. Apple knows that if Samsung can benefit by duping Apples prospective buyers, Apple can do it better... (If buyers can get confused and buy a tablet made by Samsung even though the name SAMSUNG is on that tablet in big letters, instead of an iPad). I would not be surprised people buying iPad2 thinking it be an iPhone 5s, 6 or iPad mini or insert your favorite here..

Lol!

Yet another sales ploy by Apple to give the consumer the perception they have a choice when in fact, buying an iPad 2 is such a bad choice, it leaves the new iPad and new iPad mini as the only choice. Which is exactly what Apple wants you to buy.

The only reason (i can guess) that people are still "buying" the iPad 2 is because they get them for next-to-nothing when they sign up for a data plan, maybe? Seriously, Apple could have offered the retina iPad 3 for $399, still made profit, and had entire round-up iPads that were all retina! Instead, people (not very smart ones at that) will get suckered into buying the iPad 2 and in a year (or the next iOS version) the thing will become so slow it will be painful to use.

Apple sure cares about their customers.

I guess 22% of the people buying iPads are brain dead then.

22% of brain dead in a society is actually good, it shows that 78% of them actually has a living brain. In reality, the percentage of brain dead will be much higher.

why would they still buy it with the iPad 3 and 4 on the market ?:confused:

The iPad 2 is the only iPad with the Dock connector. There were tons of "classroom in a box" kits sold with storage and charging all configured for iPad 2 form factor and DOCK connectors. I'm sure a large portion are institutions keeping them to fit what they got. Another portion are musicians in particular that got hit with lots of lightening-to-dock adapter incompatibilities.

Wow, the Minis are selling more than the full size iPad now. I prefer the Mini, but I didn't foresee those statistics.

How did you come to that conclusion? According to the table, in the last quarter the iPad Mini represented 32% of iPad sales. The iPad with Retina was 46% and the iPad 2 was 22%. So full size iPads account for 68%—more than twice that of the iPad Mini.

I can imagine the new Mini might take a bigger slice now that it has the Retina display.

A lot of stores now have all the iPad 4s for a $100 off. I was at Staple's in Georgia just before closing yesterday for printer ink and the iPad 4's where $399. I think you can buy them online also. The sale rep did say once they were out of inventory, Apple will no longer ship them any more iPad 4's. So, if you want a new one at that price, buy it before the stores run out of inventories.

It's bigger than the mini. Some people don't see as well as you. They need stuff bigger. And the retina doesn't do much good if you don't see so well. :p

Agree. And it still offers an entry into the ecosystem, at a lower price for people who don't need the horsepower of the latest and greatest. Of course, it has a premium, but that's the value of things that just work together easily.

why would they still buy it with the iPad 3 and 4 on the market ?:confused:

Ipad 3 and 4 were too close in terms of offer and specs to the new Air
and it could represent a vulnus to its selling's while the first Ipad2 which shares
A5 with Ipod and Mini Classic its a good starting point for the new users
which will be not able to update to Ios 8 with satisfaction in terms of snap and zippy sensations with its using and so will be encouraged to switch to A7 next year, when A5 will go for retirement and A6 maybe will land of new Ipod touch and mini classic.

Lots of these will be being sold with hardware that is not compatible with the newer models (no lightning support) such as POS and Engineering applications. I still see quite a few bundles that include an iPad2 in this space. Also I think educational purchasers are still buying these to go with 2s they already have and are probably getting very good bulk discounts because this model is so old now and therefore cheaper to produce.

Device fragmentation is a beautiful thing!!

I'm so relieved that Apple finally saw sense and got into that game.

I guess 22% of the people buying iPads are brain dead then.

Either that or they just have more sense than money.

I'm surprised they kept it. I was surprised they did the same when he 4th gen came out.

If they were going to keep info for schools I thought they would of still removed it from public sale.

It's strange that Apple continues to sell this but iPad 3 and 4 have mysteriously disappeared. And I was under the assumption that iPad mini was the best selling iPad, but I suppose people want bigger screens.

There are lots of customers that are toying with the idea of getting a cheap Android tablet - BUT they really want an iPad. So an old, cheap iPad is desirable because, well, it's a real iPad. They've already bust their budget to buy it.

I think it was a shame when Apple stopped making the plastic MacBooks. I can't believe those weren't good sellers as they were standard issue for students that wanted a Mac but weren't rich and had already spent twice as much as a £399 Windows machine.

In the real world Apple stuff, any Apple stuff, is beyond the means of huge numbers of consumers.

and it won't run anything in a year.... just stupid to buy this.... i think they did this to have multiple price points knowing people wont buy it unless brain dead

so the os and apps we currently use on them will suddenly quit working in a year?

----------

But those iPad's will be obsolete years before the 3 or 4 are.

we dont care as long as they do what we want them to. the only thing they run is a 5250 emulator to hook to our as400. they will be able to do that for years to come

There is a point though where Apple should be a little embarrassed to be selling the device at this price.

There are fertilizer companies that sell manure.

There are companies that sell adult diapers.

There's no reason to be embarrassed by selling a legal product that some people want or need.

Yes there is when you know it isn't as good a product as it should be and that the cost of a much better product is only a little bit more.

Think of it this way, if anyone you knew and cared about were going to try to buy a iPad 2, wouldn't you spend a huge amount of time convincing them to buy the latest iPad for just a little bit more?

33% more isn't a little more, and for people who don't care about this kind of stuff, $100 is a lot of money. I recognize that most people AREN'T like me and are entitled to make their own choices even if they aren't the ones I'd make. When it's people I care about I also know their habits well enough to know if it will make a difference in their lives - most of them would be just fine with an iPad 1.

I would though, tell them about the option of a refurb iPod 4 for even less than an iPad 2.

Of course apple will still sell the iPad 2. People will refuse to pay that much for an old slow tablet with low-res screen and will buy the Air.

It's the same thing with the 5c. Why buy an iphone 5 with a plastic case when you can buy the 5s for just $100 more.

Makes a lot of sense. Brilliant up-selling strategy though. Saw something to that effect (comparative pricing) on a recent episode of Brain Games.

Plus as noted by others, this gives them a Retina and non-Retina version for both sizes of iPad, and with a lower BOM for the iPad2, more profit for Apple.

"Apple Continues to Sell the iPad 2 Because Customers Are Still Buying It"

Simply brilliant!!! ...I mean the reason, not the fact.

I wonder if a lot of these ipad 2 sales can be attributed to small business purchases. They don't need retina. They need thin robust iPads that can run a cash register app, inventory app, restaurant menu app, kiosk app, etc. I see ipad 2s all over the place in NYC shops and restaurants. Even cabs have them as payment interfaces.

It's cheaper.

Simply put, they now have a lineup of 2 full size pads, and 2 mini pads. Each with a retina and non retina version. Pretty simple.

I can understand the two model line if you want to say a retina and non retina model and that sorta make sense but what doesn't make sense is the price of the iPad2 and I thought they wanted to move away from the 30 pin. You can get a newer refurb for cheaper and it has the same warranty.

If the iPad4 is EOL then what are they going to sell next year?

It's all in the price. I would assume someone has no idea what they are doing if they were going to spend $399 an iPad 2. There is no way around that. Many would be fine with an iPad 2 if it was $249 or last years iPad 4 for $399 because it would be the right price for year old tech. $399 for the iPad 2 is offensive and insulting along with cashing in on those not having all the information.

I would have to look around for them and try to find an iPad 4 for the same price as once the iPad Air is out there is no way one can get the same price for an iPad 4. I do wonder how the used or eBay market will work with these models now.
