Now the rest of the world just needs to follow and we will finally get some decent price points again

/i know this wont happen

Actually the price of the iPhone 6s is not that bad, compare it with the Note 7 that's £750 for 64GB here in the Uk and that's more expensive than Apple iPhone 6s!

I don't think it is... It's possible that Apple sold 51% more iPhones in India and still losing market share.
Apple sold 51% more iPhones in India in last quarter financial reports compared to the amount of iPhones it sold before. However if Android sees an even bigger increase in shipment, overall marketshare from Apple will fall.
But if Apple is selling more phones there then so what? Comparing one company (Apple) to dozens of Android OEMs is silly.

And since Apple doesn't provide sales figures specifically for India and Android OEMs don't provide sales figures period where is Stratagey Analytics getting their figures from? Surveys of retail stores? Just guessing?

yep, and also start to think people will buy whatever you make at whatever price you want. This all looks like the US version of Akio Morita circa 1994.

Um, Apple's India sales over the past 3 quarters are up over 50%. I'm not aware of many companies that lower prices when sales are actually going up.

Its a Note tho. You should compare it with the reg. S7. The Note has always been the "premium" device. I wouldnt even consider it a Smartphone

Huh? The headline literally says 35% drop

I explained why. How come you believe every word Apple tells you and questioning other reports. Sales of Apple can be up 51% but if the sales of other manufactures are up 600% it still means Apple is losing marketshare.

My bad... I read it like Apple drops 35% of it's share in India

If Apple does remove the 3.5mm audio jack on the iPhone 7 and possibly all future iPhones, it will be interesting to see if that has more of a negative impact on sales outside the USA.

Last "cheap" iPhone in the 3rd world was iPhone5. After that, the iPhone is too expensive. How expensive? More expensive that in the USA and with a way lower minimum wage. Apple is changing the world, the 1st world. No problem with that.

Apple products are too expensive for India. In fact, they are quite expensive overall due to Apple's super high margins. They would still be making a good profit selling iPhones, etc. 30-40% cheaper. Remember, Apple's ethos was making "the best products", not the most expensive ones or having mega profits.

I'll have to disagree with that (regarding best vs most expensive products). Super high margins are an Apple staple. 16GB to 64GB iPhone upgrades are $100. This is probably the most glaring example of Apple overcharging because it can.

The problem is not "overpopulation" it is the distribution of wealth and resources; e.g.

Americans waste about 141 trillion calories worth of food every day. That adds up to about $165 billion per year – 4 times the amount of food Africa imports each year.

source: https://www.one.org/us/2014/11/12/14-surprising-stats-about-global-food-consumption/

All nations waste food. Even those who have very little. When they get free stuff they sometimes don't even have the infrastructure to distribute what they get.

If there are less people to distribute things to, we would not need so many resources to take care of everybody.

We could educate people better (less schools needed) and make them understand that not every ejaculation should result in another resources using person.

Yes, there would be better distribution of anything , from jobs to food to protecting the environment instead of plundering it.

Every human born joins and enlarges the most destructive species in this world. US!

Haaaa! Good! Keep wasting money in a country that clearly isn't interested. India is not Apples new China.

India which consist of over a billion people have some of the most demanding, and harshest phone critics in the world. Totally OCD about anything. I frequent GSM Arena alot and most of the negativity come from Indian users. I go on YouTube to check for certain phones (ie ASUS Zenfone Max) since they aren't always available for Americans. I can't even understand what the reviewers are saying. But many of them are quite bright using their phones. I like Ash from C4ETech. He convinced me to buy my Xiaomi Mi 3 and has tips how to root our phones.

China and India based their purchasing decision on price. This is actually good news for people looking for VALUE because maybe Apple might actually lower the price to a reasonable level for what iPhones are capable for. Indians aren't stupid. Alot of them are in the medical field. They know how to use their phones to its capability. So let's see if Apple can grab their attention with price and features.

during the Time Tim as a trainee being trained by his mentor, Steve Jobs, I doubt he will lower the price regardless. Steve once mentioned in the video that he couldn't sell products cheaper especially with Mac Pro because he was referring to quality of the product...he said he doesn't sell junk products.

iPhone SALES are up. MARKET SHARE might be down if this report has any credibility (who knows). I'm sure Apple cares more about increasing absolute sales than what percentage of an expanding pie they are. It's not like the phone market is a pie that can never get bigger.

Apple can even half the price and still make profits. Will they do it? Only if the market forces them too. In my opinion they have either to introduce a state of the art high innovative new phone or lower the price (as the rumors of the iPhone 7 holds truth) and by lowering I don't mean a lame 10%.

I really hope the iPhone 7 won't sell. They're forced to rethink their strategy.

You can't compare the note 7 to the iPhone 7/6S. Although I think it will sell very well even higher priced. It has so much more to offer and puts Apple to shame.

Of course this will happen when you price it like crazy. The phones retail here at almost 300$ higher than they retail in US and Canada. A difference of nearly ₹20000. I order my phones from the US and request family or friends to bring them along.

You can compare to the 6s Plus and the 7 Plus, they are high end smartphones. Even tho the 7 hasn't officially been announced yet.

Steve was able to successfully sell at premium price without pushing our limits and sell near perfect (nothing is perfect) products with higher than satisfactory quality. Tim and those who responsible in financial part in Apple company got greedy and went beyond our limit.i hope they sell at lower price with better quality products....

If the advertisement department of Samsung is smart, and I'll bet they are. They will make a nice comparison with the iPhone 7 once it comes out.

Better screens: check
Better features: check
State of the art hardware: check
Better looking: check
Better value for money: check
Wireless charging: check
Memory card: check

If it would come with an Apple logo even the diehard Applefans would scream how much better it is.

"Market forces" have not compelled Apple to do anything other than offer a bigger screen size. They're not going to sacrifice profit margins. iPhone loyalty remains extremely high.
The Tech media, techno-geeks, Fandroids, and even Blackberry and Windows mobile reps have been predicting the demise of the iPhone since nearly it's introduction.
I am disappointed that the major changes won't take place until iPhone 8 but I can wait. I think a lot of folks are no longer anxious to upgrade every two years whether it's Apple, Samsung or the others.
The iPhone 7 will sell. Apple sold over 40 million phones in the previous quarter against the latest and greatest from Samsung. Nothing to sneeze at.

Sure, Apple could make a phone for half the price, and sell twice as many.

Apple knows how this works. Premium product, premium experience, premium price, premium profits.

Now that I think about it, cheaper alternatives aren’t the real threat to Apple’s market share. The real threat is that those cheaper products are increasingly being made as well as Apple’s offerings. Most consumers won’t settle for cheaper if they believe the cheaper product will somehow fail them. As differences in quality narrow, premium—or luxury—will no longer differentiate Apple. It will be something subjective.

India is just really poor. An iPhone is nearly half a year's worth of income for most of them, so of course they're not buying.
But India spends a LOT on their space program (about $1,300,000,000 dollars in 2013 for example). I bet if India's government spent a little less on space shots and a little more on basic services / education / infrastructure / medical care etc for the general public, it would go a long way toward boosting the average income level, so that eventually more people in India could afford iPhones.

India has one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Are there a lot of poor people? Unfortunately yes. But lots of Indian people are very well educated and Indians are very good in developing software for years. Lots of Fortune 500 companies are developing their software over there already. They are heavely investing in high tech and it's only a matter of time that India will be one of the leading countries in the world like China.
