Not Surprised. Apple no longer innovates... i'm a long time apple user but damn...of late Apple is really just so disappointing with their products and practices
Really? So cite some examples of real innovation on other phones. All manufacturers are bumping against the limits of current technology. Apple does not do that kind of research.

It will be amusing to see the to be released product do well in USA, if the 3.5mm jack does really disappear!

In such a scenario, here is my message to Tim: "Kudos, Apple! Both India and China, your new frontiers, will be even more difficult to access, even at the top richest 0.01% consumer level!"

It will be interesting to know in view of this article where the Chinese market share stands for Apple. From the all knowing posts here, Apple seems to be raking it in in China while floundering in India. Very doubtful, considering the competition is so cheap and produced in China - there is a trade barrier between those countries.

As for Apple stores in India, it is not as if the USA is teeming with them at every medium sized city Main street! Most iPhones are still sold in stores that are licensed by Apple, be they a super store, or a cellular retailer.

The iPhone 4s will still be good for USA consumers for another two years at least - much more for the likes of China's and India's less "affluent" buyers. The iPhone 5s and SE will be the go to newest device for an even longer time-frame.

They typically do not throw away a perfectly working device just because it is 12 months old.

Why is it that this stuff gets posted 50 times on each of these threads and you pretend it doesn't exist.

On phones, how about a 1440p OLED screen (4k will be out this spring). A robust widget system. Info ticker along the side of the screen *with the phone in sleep mode*. 64 gig base memory and a microSD slot. Smaller bezels -- the galaxy has a bigger screen in a smaller package. Galaxy s7 has a much faster CPU than apple's A9x and there's a big real-world difference in games and high end tasks. GS7 has a better camera with better low light performance and better autofocus.

But personally, I don't care as much about the phone. I want a good computer and I'll buy the ecosystem around it. If I use a mac, I'll buy an iPhone if i don't, I won't. All the current macs on offer are garbage. I've been a mac user for almost 20 years, and my next computer will be a windows machine. I am very reluctant to switch which is why I've held out this long but Mac = garbage and therefore I'm out of the ecosystem.

The 2012 macs are superior to everything since. A 2012 MBP beats the current lineup on on benchmarks. The 2012 quad core mini beats pretty much the whole current mac lineup. How's that for lack of innovation? Major game studios that have been long time Apple supporters have abandoned them, VR is leaving Apple in the dust. But Apple has so many pretty watchbands, right?

...or have clean water, etc.etc.

Unfortunately Apple doesn't have a device to stop them from making more people.
That by the way is a worldwide problem.

The planet is about as full as it can be and people live longer than before.
Not everybody will be able to have a job = money.

Only country to ever attack that issue was China.

Overpopulation, now there is an area to innovate in.

Go look at actual population stats around the world. There is large bubble/cohort heading towards retirement and elder hood in developed nations.

Not sure where you are getting your information (The 1970's? Delusional documentaries?), but pretty much any credible population graph shows a clear inversion, and you will start to notice it in the 2020's.

Edge to edge super Amoled; wireless fast charging; dual camera's; iris scanner; expendable memory... I can make that list much longer!

Above is only hardware...

I think when I start talking about Maps, Siri, iCloud you'll know enough

Now that I think about it, cheaper alternatives aren’t the real threat to Apple’s market share. The real threat is that those cheaper products are increasingly being made as well as Apple’s offerings. Most consumers won’t settle for cheaper if they believe the cheaper product will somehow fail them. As differences in quality narrow, premium—or luxury—will no longer differentiate Apple. It will be something subjective.

Yup. "Good enough" will reign.

Indian consumers are comparatively smarter and less pretentious so it makes sense that they put value first. They probably see no point in overpaying for a relatively low end iPhone 6S or iPhone 6 lemon and for the same price as the rehashed iPhone 5SE they can get newer technology, higher specs and better ecosystem from OnePlus 3 or ZTE Axon 7.

No s*** Tim, you little Sherlock You...
Make that too expensive in general!

Especially when competitors hardware is the same and arguable significantly better. Of course India and other markets will jump iphone for better products.

We will have to wait another generation for Apple to adopt OLED, not to mention getting a form factor without ridicules benzels.

I don't want to even see the price on the Apple Iphone pro!

I've reached the end of my Apple life, I just can't imagine how someone in India who is not in a good job can even consider it as an option. I just bought a 6S and its going to be my last iPhone, I'm sad to say (and my Mini is 2012, Macbook is 2010) I really like the ecosystem but on an Australian age pension, its over, for me.

I explained why. How come you believe every word Apple tells you and questioning other reports. Sales of Apple can be up 51% but if the sales of other manufactures are up 600% it still means Apple is losing marketshare.

My bad... I read it like Apple drops 35% of it's share in India
And I said why does it matter if Apple is losing market share if they're selling more phones? Apple's business model is not getting the most market share. And yes I believe what Tim Cook says because CEOs don't make stuff up on financial earnings calls!

So China is down, India is down, yet AAPL is up a buck and a half today and over 10 dollars since last week. Where is all of this optimism coming from exactly?

India is not down. Apple has increased sales there. People need to quit confusing market share with sales. It's never been Apple's goal to have the most market share.

I don't think it is... It's possible that Apple sold 51% more iPhones in India and still losing market share.
Apple sold 51% more iPhones in India in last quarter financial reports compared to the amount of iPhones it sold before. However if Android sees an even bigger increase in shipment, overall marketshare from Apple will fall.

The report also says that apple sold less phones in absolute numbers. So something is obviously off with this report. Why do they not address Tim Cooks 51 percent growth YoY in the report?

And why is it that any report out of the blue are just taken at face value with no questions asked?

Well I think it will matter eventually. Don't you think companies will invest in products and services that have more market share? Thinking of Apple Pay, AppleTV, Siri and a lot more... Apple's maps, ApplePay and AppleTV don't work here quite well because 90% here is on Android and it's not on Apples priority list to make it work. In the meantime we have very good Google (Android) offerings what works very good. So if it isn't hardware what's better but also the services that are lagging how does a company supposed to sell more? So yes, market share does matter eventually.

Sorry to hear that. But I totally understand you. I'm not on a pension but I'm waiting till September/October to decide what I'm going to do. At the moment I don't see any reason to stay only my own sentiment is keeping me. From a work point of view I have to change ship because Apple isn't offering me any alternatives.

Don't know what article you're reading.

but directly from this articles front page:

"Apple iOS fell 35 percent annually and shipped 0.8 million smartphones in India in Q2 2016. Apple's smartphone marketshare has halved from 4 percent to just 2 percent in India during the past year.

So no, india IS down. SALES were down 35%, bringing them to 2% marketshare.

sales were 800,000 in Q2 2016, and were 1.2Million last year at the same time

thats a decrease in sales.

Something I totally don't understand is why people are so proud of Apples profits instead of the products they're churning out. Sure they've to make profits to invest into the future. But when their whole product line is outdated for a very long time and prices won't come down to adjust the outdated hardware... Something with the attitude of that company must be wrong.

Nope. Whining from my six year old is to be expected. Whining from a bunch of grown, spoiled first-world techies is banal and exhausting.

You're 6 and properly also an only child? Because you already whined twice, clearly can handle critisim and I expect a third round is incomming.

Tim Cook is slowly but surely destroying Apple. I wish the Apple Board would finally give him the pink slip. Cook's the worst thing that happened to Apple.
