After introducing all new emoji with skin tone modifiers in iOS 8.3 beta 2, Apple continues to make minor tweaks to the emoji library in subsequent beta releases. iOS 8.3 beta 4 released through Apple's public beta testing program on Tuesday now separates default emoji from modified ones when holding them down on the keyboard, and emojis with yellow skin tone now have a matching blond or gold hair color.

The emoji keyboard also shows the "Recently Added" view as default again, making it easier to select from the emojis that you use most often for messaging. iOS 8.3 beta 4 also gains iMessage filtering that separates messages sent from unknown senders, removes the beta label from iCloud Photo Library and includes a number of bug fixes outlined within the MacRumors discussion forums.

We've been tracking all of the iOS 8.3 changes in our iOS 8 Features Roundup.

Anyone know how to revert to a different skin tone for a particular emoji once you have selected one from the available options? I'm on the Beta and I noticed that after selecting a skin tone from the options that the options are no longer presented for that particular emoji anymore. What if you pick the wrong one and want to choose another one?

Which is the wrong one?

whichever one I didn't mean to pick. But I see what you did there ... ;)

Just pick the emoji again and hold down until the selector reappears. then you can change to your preferred skin tone.

I find it funny that having emojis as yellow is considered racists. Still what the heck, if people want to switch the skin tone, more power to you. I will hold out until they give me an option for an emoji with a white hat and a fat cigar. :D

Big question is if the squash plant is till only available in purple. If think thats a bit racist to all orange and green squash vegetables.

Do they have mixed race couples, same sex couple etc?

If people want to change the colour fair enough, I personally don't mind the Yellow character as its not about representing me, it's about conveying emotion through text which is difficult and often misread, I don't see how the colour of the emoticon changes that.

I didn't see it as racist that everyone was Yellow either, it's more racist to highlight differences, we're all different in many ways, why do we highlight skin colour, seems strange. How will we ever get past it if we keep highlighting differences.

All I want are emoticon that can convey emotion as that's often the biggest problems when texting for me. I'm often looking for an emoticon to convey some meaning and it's not there... Like, where is the DOH emoji?

Replace yellow people with redheads and allow people to choose their default emoji person.

This isn't a winning game though. They're always going to leave out a minority.

These emoticons are moving away from a tool to help show emotion or meaning in text and becoming avatars. If thats the case we should be able to choose hair colour, hair styles, eye colour and facial hair too. Why is it only skin colour that can be changed.

For the record I don't want an avatar, I want a simple way to convey meaning and emotion.

Don't take the fun out of emojis, please :(

And add a taco and dumbell emoji while you're at it.
