I might use 5 emojis...a birthday cake for when people have birthdays and music for music stuff, then the occasional smiley faces

I don't want "realistic" faces.

Makes me think the Egyptians were pretty racist in their day.

For any emoji couple with a kid all possible combinations of skin color yield 125 variants. Go on Apple.

They left the non-"realistic" faces in there for you and people like you.

Also the birthday cake.

Apple has your back.

Or did you mean that you don't want other people to have the emojis you don't use?

I hope they feature interracial gay couples. That would genuinely make me happy! :)

They also need to feature polygamy families. Threesomes, foursomes and moresomes in all possible variants. And in all possible skin color variants of course.

How yellow do you want to make Chinese or Japanese people, Apple?

It is not squash, but an aubergine.

There is more to "East Asia" than those two countries you know.
I think the new "base character, looks more "simpsons" than any racist at this point.

As everyone knows, emoji are a japanese creation, those really represent japanese stereotypical family types. (Minus the mustache, who never see those in Japan. But I think it's still a "mental" stereotype .)

I am once again living in Japan, in Tokyo and people still stare at non-japanese like crazy. It's that homogenous over here.

Don't understand why people complain about this. It's not as if the people fixing bugs on iOS or OS X are the same people doing the emojis, lol. It's not "taking away time" from fixing other things.

And yeah, it was certainly no one's intention to be racist by only having white emoji's, but I'd love to see how every white person would feel if they only black faces to represent something.

Of course they need the correct number of choices;

Northern European, Southern European, Slavic, Arabic, Persian, Berber, Sub Saharan African, Southern African, Western Amerindian, Eastern Amerindian, Caribbean Indian, Southern India Indian, Northern India Indian, Southeast Asian, South Pacific Asian, Korean, Japanese, Mongol, Far North Indigenous, Northern Chinese, Southern Chinese, Australian Indigenous, Central American Indigenous, Amazonian Indigenous, East Coast South American Indigenous, West Coast South American Indigenous, Central Pacific Islanders, and Neanderthal. I know I left a bunch of breeds out.

Multiply that by;

Young or old x mail or female or both x gay or straight x liberal or conservative x fair or ugly x tall or short x skinny or fat x Mac or PC x whatever other politically correct, bullsh**t that suites the fancy.

Or Apple could spend its time making Yosemite work, developing an enthusiasts' Mac and even fixing the poor effed up mini.

just saying this seems trivial to other issues. but i know other people want emojis more than bettering the system. by bad.

sorry, if my thoughts were not aligned, I'll try not to make future comments regarding my opinion on said topic.

Probably the dumbest thing ever

Great! Now I have to worry about which skin tone I send out so as to NOT be offensive to the recipient. :roll eyes:

Lol. Actually if any recipient/client doesn't like a default emoji, they can shove it.

Dumbest thing ever. Come on its a stupid emoji. Tired of this "racist" crap

Hey remember: This is America. And in 2015, that means that if you accidentally don't include someone, or mention every type of someone ever possible in past present or future,

Or don't agree or acknowledge every single organization when you speak,

Then YOU suffer from an -ism of some sort, which makes you some sort of
-ist!

/not really sarcastic either

Edit: It is sarcasm...but still sadly true in our society these days in many cases.

Nice to see the humorous replies to perhaps the dumbest article on macrumors. Emojis? Really? So this must mean there is nothing newsworthy today ....

If there is a pothole in front of your driveway, it is not trivial to you. But there are more important things to do than fix your pothole, and there always will be. If you have to wait for everything that is more important to be fixed before they get to your pothole, then your pothole will never be fixed. While you're waiting, more important problems will come up, and they will take priority over your relatively trivial problem.

If you're lucky, your pothole ends up on a work list and eventually it comes up, and someone comes and fixes your pothole. It will annoy some people to see your pothole being fixed, when there are bigger problems to address.

Do they have mixed race couples, same sex couple etc?
[...]
I didn't see it as racist that everyone was Yellow either, it's more racist to highlight differences, we're all different in many ways, why do we highlight skin colour, seems strange. How will we ever get past it if we keep highlighting differences.

Yes, they do have same-sex couple emoji now. They're in the screenshot. And adding other skin colors was never about the yellow emoji, it was about the white-skinned people emoji. When the only color representing all skin colors on the planet is white, that is a problem because there's no inclusiveness. People want to feel that when they send a person emoji to a friend or lover, it is at least somewhat representative of them. If all the emoji were purple or something, maybe it wouldn't be a problem. But that's not the case.
