Hear! Hear!

Our children will grow up with diverse emoji and they'll wonder why the previous generation felt the need to block them.

Not quite, for me it's just a non issue. One can change them if really necessary, but no one needs to discuss this change for about two month... :)

Do they have mixed race couples, same sex couple etc?

If people want to change the colour fair enough, I personally don't mind the Yellow character as its not about representing me, it's about conveying emotion through text which is difficult and often misread, I don't see how the colour of the emoticon changes that.

I didn't see it as racist that everyone was Yellow either, it's more racist to highlight differences, we're all different in many ways, why do we highlight skin colour, seems strange. How will we ever get past it if we keep highlighting differences.

All I want are emoticon that can convey emotion as that's often the biggest problems when texting for me. I'm often looking for an emoticon to convey some meaning and it's not there... Like, where is the DOH emoji?

You're right we should pretend minorities don't exist. That's not bigoted at all.

why is skin color a race then? why not think in terms of "human race"? all these racial issues will go away. Unless we start fighting with cats or dogs

I didn't even think to mention that part of it. If skin color dictates race, then eye color should, as well. For the record, though, I was being sarcastic in my original post.

All along I thought this entire color Emoji idea is stupid, and then I remembered that I'd be able to match Emoji to my spray-on tan during the winter months.

I believe they are a member of the Unicode Consortium, so that is not surprising. It's also not surprising that they would consider these new choices a positive thing. But ultimately the Consortium had to approve these as a group.
Very true. And although they had to sign off on it, (just speculation) I'd imagine Apple rather pushed them into this nonsense. Just for the sake of reference, this was the source I was referring to http://9to5mac.com/2014/03/25/apple...onsortium-to-create-more-diverse-emoji-icons/

Yellow Faced Emojis are Hideous

I think the yellow face emoji is hideous, which means instead of using a default face that was predetermined for me, I'll now need to hold an icon to select a different skin tone.

If you can choose a skin tone default in the settings, I'm ok with this. If not, this is a really annoying change.

Hey, where's the Inuit emoji, the Aborigine emoji? Where's the black dog, the black cat, the mid-but-not-quite-dark-brown cat, the albino emoji, the seagul emoji, the... Steve Jobs face? COME ONNN! ;)

Not complaining that they've put these in, but how stupid, the notion.

PS: Where's the "spinning beachball of death"?!?! The "Wall-E"... I thought this was Apple?

Based on other comments, I think that you only have to hold the icon the first time.

It will remember your choice the next time.

There is only one "majority" on the planet, and people claim they are a minority. Funny.

Everybody is part of a minority. Get over yourself.

You know that 95% of the people commenting on this are joking, right?

I'd say the opposite, sadly. You may be projecting.

You thought wrong. It is not Apple who decides what emojis are part of the collection.

You have no clue what you're talking about. The emoji in question are white, pale faced European looking people. On the iPhone they start on the 3rd page of emoji. Those are the people emoji and (except for 2 I think) they are all white not yellow which is strange because that only represents 20% of the population of the world.

You seem to be referring to the yellow emoji which are an entirely different thing and not what the skin tone modifiers are for.

Neither do you, because they came from Japan, not "pale faced Europe".

It's so hard to accuse others of racism without being one yourself. Maybe just stopping is the solution.

Great, so now I'm going to be either racist or jaundiced. I think we need a "randomise" button so will can still use emoji with a clear conscience and without fear of accusation.

Exactly. They should all just be brown/black.

Why lol.

I hope they feature interracial gay couples. That would genuinely make me happy! :)

Again, its a stupid emoji. Means nothing in the real world

Something tells me you're white.

Yes I am white. Some thing tells me your black...

Does not having a "black" emoji make Apple or any other company racist?

Are minorities so insecure that they need these options? I mean its a emoji for god sakes

Actually, they don't. They have same sex emojis, but you are not able to make ANY couple/family emojis reflect interracial relationships.

Guess it's more "inclusive" to have an emoji for gold gay people than to have one for me "white" and my "black" husband. /s

My bad. Thanks for clearing that up. I never really used those since they don't serve any useful purpose, unlike the smiley-style emojis that can be used to express various social nuances.

So while I was wrong, being enlightened makes the whole thing seem even more pointless to argue over. You can never include everyone, and the attempt to include some only makes it potentially offensive to those are who left out. They should just all be generic yellow/gold, like the smiley-style ones.

"Racism" is such primitive stupidity that it doesn't even warrant brain time. I mean, who even has the stupidity to allow this social bias crap into their mind? LOL

Before it even gets anywhere near the level of offensive, it stumbles at the hurdle of being so laughably ridiculous, it doesn't warrant anything more than being a stray thought which is so illogical that ones mind discards it subconsciously and immediately.

Why, on a logical basis, would the colour of my shoes determine how good I am at walking? Lol... there's only one race - THE HUMAN RACE. If you allow this "racism" into your sphere of consciousness and acknowledge it to act upon it OR to attempt to not BE it, you are a fool, and have been distracted.

World, stop looking for selfish reasons to take offence, and get over yourself. Love people, and realise that they're doing things through ignorance alone. Its such a ridiculous error of judgement to allow yourself to even consider the whole scenario of colour affecting judgement in any manner, its barely worthy of mention.

Turn the Emoji keyboard into a Sims person creator to make it completely neutral. :p

I think it's because they originated in Japan. I know that Japanese movies, TV shows, and video games tend to have European white characters.

Because the race of the emoji doesn't matter, and anyone who complains is insecure, right? Let's just make them all black and be done with it.

I would be cool with this, just to end the bitching. No white people complained that the faces were yellow. Let's be honest, no one uses the white people emojis except when trying to do funny emoji art. I had no idea that all the smilies being yellow was not politically correct.
