Hmmm...eye color is a race?
Do they have mixed race couples, same sex couple etc?
If people want to change the colour fair enough, I personally don't mind the Yellow character as its not about representing me, it's about conveying emotion through text which is difficult and often misread, I don't see how the colour of the emoticon changes that.
I didn't see it as racist that everyone was Yellow either, it's more racist to highlight differences, we're all different in many ways, why do we highlight skin colour, seems strange. How will we ever get past it if we keep highlighting differences.
All I want are emoticon that can convey emotion as that's often the biggest problems when texting for me. I'm often looking for an emoticon to convey some meaning and it's not there... Like, where is the DOH emoji?
why is skin color a race then? why not think in terms of "human race"? all these racial issues will go away. Unless we start fighting with cats or dogs
Just take the emojis away so people will stop being so damn childish over this. Talk about complete ignorance and stupidity!
Very true. And although they had to sign off on it, (just speculation) I'd imagine Apple rather pushed them into this nonsense. Just for the sake of reference, this was the source I was referring to http://9to5mac.com/2014/03/25/apple...onsortium-to-create-more-diverse-emoji-icons/I believe they are a member of the Unicode Consortium, so that is not surprising. It's also not surprising that they would consider these new choices a positive thing. But ultimately the Consortium had to approve these as a group.
Based on other comments, I think that you only have to hold the icon the first time.I think the yellow face emoji is hideous, which means instead of using a default face that was predetermined for me, I'll now need to hold an icon to select a different skin tone.
If you can choose a skin tone default in the settings, I'm ok with this. If not, this is a really annoying change.
You're right we should pretend minorities don't exist. That's not bigoted at all.
You know that 95% of the people commenting on this are joking, right?
You thought wrong. It is not Apple who decides what emojis are part of the collection.Hey, where's the Inuit emoji, the Aborigine emoji? Where's the black dog, the black cat, the mid-but-not-quite-dark-brown cat, the albino emoji, the seagul emoji, the... Steve Jobs face? COME ONNN!
Not complaining that they've put these in, but how stupid, the notion.
PS: Where's the "spinning beachball of death"?!?! The "Wall-E"... I thought this was Apple?
You have no clue what you're talking about. The emoji in question are white, pale faced European looking people. On the iPhone they start on the 3rd page of emoji. Those are the people emoji and (except for 2 I think) they are all white not yellow which is strange because that only represents 20% of the population of the world.
You seem to be referring to the yellow emoji which are an entirely different thing and not what the skin tone modifiers are for.
Exactly. They should all just be brown/black.
I hope they feature interracial gay couples. That would genuinely make me happy!![]()
Something tells me you're white.
They do
My bad. Thanks for clearing that up. I never really used those since they don't serve any useful purpose, unlike the smiley-style emojis that can be used to express various social nuances. You have no clue what you're talking about. Because the race of the emoji doesn't matter, and anyone who complains is insecure, right? Let's just make them all black and be done with it.
