Will be good if it is discontinued. But not sure whether Apple will do it this year.

Can someone explain to me why leather is not eco-friendly? I consider myself a very cautious person when it comes to these topics. So I genuinely wonder. A large number of animals are slaughtered for meat every day. Using the skin from those animals should be considered an eco-friendly option instead of using plastic accessories. We'd be using a byproduct of the meat industry that otherwise, I assume, would go to waste. (I know silicone is not plastic, but I am asking in a more general sense)
1. the tanning and dyeing process use really nasty chemicals that include heavy elements

2. luxury brands use skins from particular breeds of animals. those animals are raised for their skin and the secondary products are the leftovers.

I did consider your argument. But because the demand for leather is far far less than the demand for meat, how much can they really rely on hide as a revenue?
The chemicals used in leather is news to me. I should read up on that! Thanks for sharing :)
I didn't think it was such a big level, but it seems that preCovid, the hide did make up ~6-8% of the value of a cow. This seems to have fallen in recent times though.

Traditionally, hides, on average, have contributed 6-8% of the total value of US beef cattle

And my beautiful leather case on my iPhone SE still looks great after 4 years. Just a little bit of patina. So who's more eco-friendly?

I'm still wondering, wouldn't it be eco-friendly if cases could be reused between multiple generations of the same device? It certainly wouldn't be necessary to resize the camera bump every year. I mean, it's actually best not to buy a new phone every year because each successive generation adds less and less value.

All this eco-marketing pisses me off. Very hypocritical...

Excellent points and you could not be more correct.

Durability issues with your silicone case or something else?…
Both cases peeled and flaked pieces of silicone. I thought maybe the first case was a dud, but my second case was used for half the time as the first, & it's much worse. I'm riding it out until I upgrade next month & then I'll have to find something new.

LOL, come on, it's not "one of" or even a little 'brain dead' to want or think humanity can do better in this area.
Sure it is. True environmentalism is in the details, not the headlines. Pull back headlines even slightly and many environmental concerns and efforts fall apart completely, either due to total effectiveness or hypocritical deflection of one problem into another. Most people's sense of environmentalism is entirely headline, and I can assure you that leather is one of those, big time.

This goes against those who want difference every year. Just goes to show you can’t please all apple customers all of the time.

It would be disastrous if everyone loved every product and decision Apple made as that would stifle development and not give them anything constructive to work with.
I did not make my point clear enough. There were those who have posted the iPhone 15 is a 12SSSS ie the iPhones since the iPhone 12 are too similar.

Then another group have said the phones (at least the form factor) should be the same because the cases could be reused and hence more environmentally friendly.

Now to your point apple will do what it will do but mine is apple with so many customers they can’t please everybody.

If I understood your point, hopefully they did too.

I wish they could apply AI to, after decades, improve things about macOS that feel archaic. Say the whole dance of mounting a DMG, dragging it to applications, unmounting it, moving it to the trash and emptying it. Yes there's the app store, but there's still very limited buy in on macOS with their cut. As Apple Intelligence continues to evolve maybe it could do something about that, like once the user has verified yes this is something I trust, just install it to applications and deal with the rest of the mess itself based on AI learning of how different programs install.

UltraWoven(TM).
