Apple has created 14 country specific Apple Watch woven nylon bands for the 2016 Olympics. The bands, which were first spotted by GQ, are designed to reflect the national flags of 14 of the major competitors at the games.

The countries included are the U.S., Great Britain, the Netherlands, South Africa, New Zealand, Mexico, Japan, Jamaica, Canada, China, Brazil, Australia, Germany, and France. The bands are only available at the VillageMall Apple Store in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The bands are $49 each.

One of the first Olympic athletes to acquire one of the bands is Team USA sprinter Trayvon Bromell, who posted a picture of his band on Twitter.

Apple has created special bands in the past, most recently debuting rainbow woven nylon bands for the Pride festival in late June.

... WHY!?!?

wow, Amazing innovation right there!

I'm so glad a company as great as Apple was able to come up with something everybody will want to buy. I only wish Samsung or Google has the brain to come up with such an great product.

Can't innovate, my ass

You DO know they can do more than one thing at once. Maybe distract yourself by the latest public betas for ios10 and macOS that came out yesterday.

Good marketing move (if indeed lots of athletes use Apple Watches).

The US and UK bands are pretty similar, I wonder what the AU band would look like. Those bands appear to only support longitudinal stripes, which can be an issue with a lot of flags (I guess the Canadians can share a band with the Austrians :D )

When I saw the first two bands I thought it was some sort of Republican and Democrat bands. But nope it is a generic crappy band nobody will be able to get.

The GB one is rubbish TBH, could they not put a cross pattern along the band as we don't have all horizontal stripes. Would rather the rainbow band TBH

I will say Apple does a great job in showing support in products such as this and various events, including the Olympics. They also made an Apple Watch band specifically for Pride in San Francisco last month.

Who gives a ****. Apple is turning into the Apple of 1996.

Clearly you care by voicing your opinion on this specific article. Secondly, your negativity reference Apple 1996 proves nothing, Apple developing a band to show support for a major world wide event, and this references Apple of 1996? Ok.

Why all the sarcasm every time there's a new article on Watch bands? Frankly, you don't know how lucky you are.

In a few years' time when all Watch bands are soldered, you'll look back at these days fondly when you could upgrade the bands yourself.
I am getting a bit tired of the constant snide anti Apple Watch posts but this made me laugh heartily! Bravo!

Funny I don't remember all this snark when it was reported that Apple made a Pride watch band...

You skipped a step. First they'll be secured on by some sort of proprietary septabular screw you can buy off iFixit for $79. THEN comes the soldering. After that, Jony closes with his third act: Double sided tape, weak adhesives and plastic snaps that break with the sloghtest bend.

Innovation.

Support? Are you ******** serious? It's about making money, **** all to do with supporting anything. If Apple wanted to "support" these events they would do something that would cost them money, not make it for them. Something called sponsorship.

You missed the point entirely and yes, I am serious. The fact they have decorum and courtesy for a major event. When they showed support for the Pride Festival in San Francisco last month was another reason they were supportive. These bands are not even available for the public, so clearly they are not concerned about profit margins In a limited edition band for special events. Sponsorship you say? Care to elaborate on Apple's 'Sponsorship' partake? I look forward to your reply.
