They are

They are representing national colours rather than flags. So the Netherlands one is orange and the NZ one is black.

Hmm perhaps but then the US and UK have the same colours so should have the same style band by that logic.

I think there is an attempt to replicate the flags on some of them - the Japanese one with the red dot in the middle for example.

Damn, I missed that GQ link in the OP...

It seems to me that the designs for Netherlands, Japan, New Zealand and Australia are well thought out.

On the other hand, UK getting the North Korean (sort of) and Canada the Austrian flag...?

Apple has created 14 country specific Apple Watch woven nylon bands for the 2016 Olympics. The bands, which were first spotted by GQ, are designed to reflect the national flags of 14 of the major competitors at the games.

The countries included are the U.S., Great Britain, the Netherlands, South Africa, New Zealand, Mexico, Japan, Jamaica, Canada, China, Brazil, Australia, Germany, and France. The bands are only available at the VillageMall Apple Store in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The bands are $49 each.

One of the first Olympic athletes to acquire one of the bands is Team USA sprinter Trayvon Bromell, who posted a picture of his band on Twitter.

Apple has created special bands in the past, most recently debuting rainbow woven nylon bands for the Pride festival in late June.

[doublepost=1469186324][/doublepost]Where could i buy this? I wish it will be my 2nd strap choice, after bought the OULUOQI apple watch link bracelet at Amazon.

I will say Apple does a great job in showing support in products such as this and various events, including the Olympics. They also made an Apple Watch band specifically for Pride in San Francisco last month.

Clearly you care by voicing your opinion on this specific article. Secondly, your negativity reference Apple 1996 proves nothing, Apple developing a band to show support for a major world wide event, and this references Apple of 1996? Ok.
The Apple of 1996 went down the tubes because Apple was making computers, monitors, printers, cameras, PDAs, cables, software, speakers, CD players, CDROM drives, remotes, TV capture cards, ,TV Presentaion systems, FM cards, floppy discs, keyboards, mice, clothing, an online service, web browser, networking equipment, AUX Servers...and probably more. Apple lost focus and in turn lost money. That is starting to happen now. Apple is all over the place. Watch bands are the equivilent to making cameras.....why? Let someone else do it. Let some company that knows how to make better bands more efficiently do it.

Just because someone feels "negatively" about something doesn't make it less accurate. It is a great guage for the company to be mesured against. It is historic fact. I know some Apple fans get their cookie cutter world shattered when someone thinks negatively about Apple. But you will find most negative Apple people in here were once Apples biggest champions. Apple has and continues to let them down. Right Apple negetive thinkers?

Those bands appear to only support longitudinal stripes, which can be an issue with a lot of flags (I guess the Canadians can share a band with the Austrians :D )

Yes, Austrian and Canadians - share the (red-white-red) design !
And Italians can share the Brazilian (green-white-red) design ...

There's a wide chasm between the product lines Apple of '96 and the lines they have today. They can't continue forever with iPhone, iPad, and Mac. They are going to have to diversify. Peak iPhone? I'm not sure. Peak iPad? Yeah, it seems as if the tablet heyday is in the rearview mirror. Macs? Flat in a declining category.

Is Apple actually all over the place? They have AW and ATV as added products. Everything else is just accessories. Their product portfolio consists of 5 categories. Yes, it is more than the original 3, but a far cry from the menagerie of products from '96. Even if Apple goes abso-freaking-lutely nuts and intro's 2-3 more categories it still wouldn't rise to the level of '96.

Uhh. Yes there was. Over 400 posts worth. It was until the point where Moderators had to temporarily lock the thread to clean up all the negative/bickering snarky comments.
But was that snark about watch bands vs, say, updating Mac hardware or was it people arguing over gay rights and Apple's support of it?

I actually recall thinking, in the mid 90's, that getting a Mac would be a good thing (I've always been a software developer, primarily on Unix, had not owned a Mac), for the exposure to a new/different platform, and, quite literally, one of the things stopping me was that they had approximately 97,000 different models to choose from, with no clear delineation of what would be best for any given set of needs.

wow, Amazing innovation right there!

I'm so glad a company as great as Apple was able to come up with something everybody will want to buy. I only wish Samsung or Google has the brain to come up with such an great product.

Can't innovate, my ass

Wait, you mean Google and Samsung haven't come up with accessories for their products yet!!!??? Man, they have some serious catching up to do!

You missed the point entirely and yes, I am serious. The fact they have decorum and courtesy for a major event. When they showed support for the Pride Festival in San Francisco last month was another reason they were supportive. These bands are not even available for the public, so clearly they are not concerned about profit margins In a limited edition band for special events. Sponsorship you say? Care to elaborate on Apple's 'Sponsorship' partake? I look forward to your reply.

You don't charge $49 for a watch band if you are showing support.

I think Mustang69 already nailed the post from above, reference his. Although, I do agree Apple is more focused from when they were 20 years ago. Let's remember ultimately what got them here, Macs, not Watch bands. Even though I appreciate their expanded ingenuity and I am a supporter of that.

Where is your source they are charging $50.00 for these special event/World Olympic bands? Do we know they are charging for these limited edition bands that are NOT available to the public?

Apparently it was arguing of Watch Bands that lead to Gay Rights I believe. And those attending.

To be fair, Apple did not schedule a media event two weeks in the future, with a cryptic tag line, to have Tim Cook on stage excitedly introducing these watch bands in front of thousands of astonished viewers. They simply did a small thing that they thought was cool, and put out a press release.

But MacRumors (quite reasonably) doesn't use, say, especially tiny fonts to report minor news items, figuring rightly that folks interested in Apple come here to read the Apple-related news of the day, and some days the news is less earth shattering than others. And some folks sometimes lose sight of that fact, and assume that, because there is an article or two on watch bands (displayed in the same size fonts, on the same pages, that sometimes herald the announcement of new Macs, or iOS devices), that that necessarily means that fully one-third of Apple's employees must now be working exclusively on watch bands (keep in mind that Apple is famous for bringing new products to market that thousands of people have been involved in, with little more than a few rumors escaping). The problem of focus lately, I think, lies more with the Apple watchers, than with Apple themselves.

That's funny what you said about Macrumors. True, unless you think about it.
