Where is your source they are charging $50.00 for these special event/World Olympic bands? Do we know they are charging for these limited edition bands that are NOT available to the public?

Read the article you are commenting on. THat's not too difficult a task is it?

How so? They report the items of the day that relate to Apple in some way, be they big or small. We often amplify the import of the lesser items out of a lack of bigger items to discuss.

I was agreeing with you. Not arguing.

You are 100% accurate. Not sure why I did not recall this. Thanks.

This is not a country specific but more on Tim Cook specific colorful bands especially the hot pink ones.

...anyone in Rio fancy doing a trolley-dash for MR members? I'll trade you a super-rare (OK, probably quite common...) Apple pin badge from the last Olympics? :p

I think it's more or less showing support for the particular country being involved. I'm not interested in Apple's financial means, more so, their recent support in Pride Festival with a specific band for those participating. This post was strictly a commend, not a political debate.

Understood.

While I would hope that Apple is doing this as a show of support, I can't ignore the possibility that Angela and the Apple marketing team are doing this at least in part for possible intangible benefits. Add more "value" to their brand, so to speak.

Marketing is very much a psychological game. Sales is too, to a degree.

Then again, maybe I'm just becoming a pessimist as I get older.

This is also a great point. I would agree with this.

Why all the sarcasm every time there's a new article on Watch bands? Frankly, you don't know how lucky you are.

In a few years' time when all Watch bands are soldered, you'll look back at these days fondly when you could upgrade the bands yourself.

You should do stand up because damn that was almost as good as another watch bands keynote.

I just checked with my girlfriend's mother who lives in Rio. According to her, the bands are not $49. If you convert, it ends up being $95 USD because Brazil charges import taxes, etc.

I feel like many MR readers don't really know what 'innovate' means. They certainly don't know when to throw the term around. I mean, nobody is claiming that this is innovation. It's an expanded product line that Apple has released, and it is being reported on an Apple-dedicated site. As it should be.

When I saw the first two bands I thought it was some sort of Republican and Democrat bands. But nope it is a generic crappy band nobody will be able to get.

The GB one is rubbish TBH, could they not put a cross pattern along the band as we don't have all horizontal stripes. Would rather the rainbow band TBH

Was at the store yesterday and saw a rainbow band on one of the staff, not sure if it was a third party or not.

The Aussie one isn't great either; but that is our sports bodies fault. I always laugh a little when I see Hezbollah rallies cause they oook like they support Aussie soccer team etc

Haha. I can still add my own RAM to most of my Windows laptops ;)

Funny I don't remember all this snark when it was reported that Apple made a Pride watch band...

Owww yes there was, a very heated thread actually that went out of control.....you could have not missed it....as you were on that thread.

And every watch band thread you have defended while other have have moaned about them....same every band thread...

I think IOC + apple making money out of the olympics is a perfect marriage ;)

Ha ha ha.....Im actually looking forward to getting upgradable ram and HDD back in the future ...but with the option to install fashion oriented ram/Hdd....it will shut up all the people asking for MacBook updates, with apple releasing ram/HDDs just like watch bands....

You are missing the point. Many here are apple fans, don't blame the fans, blame phill ..... Most of the innovate comments on MR are as a result of this.

Given the Mac range is so so so out of date , and the iPhone is having the same design three years running......yeah we can expect some sarcasm on MR.... The product seeing the most updates...is the watch band. Let's not forget there amazing new iPod ......a new colour...

I was curious to see what the patterns all looked like together, so I flew to Rio, bought one of each and laid them out in a grid <cough> I mean, I grabbed some images off the web, used some HTML to lay them out next to each other, and took a picture.

Someone is selling the entire set on eBay for $5,600 :p
Well, that's an attractive alternative to the two other possibilities I've been considering, either a round-trip first class flight to Rio with a two-hour stopover before return, to run out and get the bands, or hiring Daniel Ocean and a dozen of his friends to conduct an epic heist, breaking into Apple Headquarters and steal the originals from the lab.

(Actually, I have no desire to have the whole set, don't much care for the country-specific-to-me USA band, and don't hold any particular attachment to the other countries represented - if they had a Norway band, maybe - but I rather like the black-and-green look of the Jamaica band.)
