Coldplay talk about the association at Apple's event for Jobs death. Go watch it, then you'll know.

Well your avatar is of a bloke who makes a living solving first world problems.

Ooo very defensive! Guess you have the hots for Chris Martin LMAO

Coldplay started off as U2 and Radiohead wannabes

Actually, I think it is pretty great!

It is a FREE album that takes up virtually ZERO space on your device. Apple over estimated the intelligence and sanity of some of it's customers.

Actually it takes up 110.69 MB.

His statement still stands. The album takes up virtually nothing. I have singles that take up more space, granted they're 24-bit.

Oh man this is getting funnier and funnier...

Do to a claim by the copyright holder Apple's official U2 ad has been muted on Youtube.

it's intrusive...

That's why it bothers people. It's intrusive. Just delete it though, I don't know why you need an app to uninstall the music or whatever.

Rumored Apple paid U2 $100m. Rumor though.. everyone knows records sales don't make as much money as touring. Even the best of times in the music industry 80-90s. I don't know if any Artists made $100m from one album (sales alone).

No. Somebody spent $100M. Might be collectively but that money is gone. You’d moan if the government wasted your investment - the shareholders are the same.
Anyhow, like to loathe the music we’ll see later if it was a good move or not.

Are you getting confused with the speculation that the marketing exposure was worth $100mil?

No one has spent that money it's just what the value is predicated to be for getting the content to that many people on so many devices.

The $100 mill. wouldn't have been so much IF people were not "forced" to have it in the first place yes ?

FYI, that's a cool video.

Wow. People are really this ungrateful.

Yes they are. Nothing polarizes a room like music taste. Apple very rarely has done third party bundles in the past. Steve Jobs hated bundles allegedly calling it "retail welfare" to some third parties.

Epic Fail by Apple.

Give away a free gift from the apple store, don't make that decission on what for me. To many different tastes in Music.
U Pooh.. maybe 1980's U2, not this commercial Sh they put out now.

Better yet, just give me a lower price!

Honestly, this has been handled poorly. U2 should have not shipped on the iOS 8 GM. Instead have a download code to every purchaser of an iPhone 6.

If the purchaser did not want the album, it could be passed on to someone who wants it. Better, create a market for U2 download codes on eBay.

And the Apple TV?

For what its worth I kept the album. I was just addressing your points
The settings is applied to your iTunes library, which means that your iPhone and your Apple TV won't play the tracks that you set to be skipped.

name calling?

Im confident this has nothing to do with who does and does not like U2. Its about whiney little bitches that can't accept a good thing at face value and instead find everything on earth to complain about. If i was apple and i got a reaction like this from something I gave away free i would max out your phones memory with dumb cat videos and anything else I damn well pleased just to spite you. Jesus. A bunch of ungrateful ppl is all this is about. If you think apple "imposed on your rights" then you should go talk to your representative. other wise just shut it. I'm sick of this and i feel for apple having to waste some poor guys/girls time coming up with a useless 'tool' so you can have you whiney way.

Imagine if santa clause had to do this **** every Christmas.

O

i loved that film Bad Words, have you seen it? it was smart, your comments are not smart though.

I LOVE you all...

$100 million for that turd? It's like apple saying thanks for letting them use their country as a tax shelter.

Coldplay started off as U2 and Radiohead wannabes

Every band starts of as a wannabe of the previous generation. And I was just stating the facts that's all.

Here's a thought. Turn off the option to show non-downloaded iCloud purchases and delete it locally/don't download it if you don't want it. How is that so hard?
My music library does not fit on my phone. I pay Apple yearly for iTunes Match just so that I can listen to songs that are linked to my account but are not stored on my device. I also listen on shuffle, so it's impossible for me to stop this U2 album from coming up.

Now since I also have a Mac, I was able to hide it from my purchase history but this cannot be done on iOS and most people worldwide who own an iPhone do not own a Mac or a PC. Especially in asia where people are especially unlikely to enjoy U2.

How do you think someone from korea who doesn't even speak english would feel about U2 coming up occasionally? Or the reverse, how would you like to have 2NE1's latest album forced on you? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdKTgwffmdo

And no way at all to get rid of it except find someone with a PC and iTunes, log out of their account, log in with your account, hide the song from the purchase history? Somebody who has never used iTunes before in their life is going to need a lengthy phone call with Apple's tech support team to figure that out and I bet there are tens of millions of people in that exact situation.

Funny thing is had this been a Justin Bieber or Nicki Minaj album being pushed out, instead of U2...a lot of the "I don't see the big deal/First Problems/People just wanna complain" crowd would've been singing a different tune

If I broke into Apple's servers and inserted some code, how would that be viewed? Today, electronic accounts are treated very similar to physical locations in our society. It's illegal to break into a company's servers just like it's illegal to break into their store. I'm NOT saying Apple did anything illegal - just explaining why....YES, I'm comparing someone breaking into my house with Apple messing with my iTunes account.

You realize you just argued for and against your analogy. They didn't do anything illegal but its still analogous with breaking into your house which is illegal.

Like I asked in another post.

So, next time if Apple makes a deal with VZ to auto install VZ Navigator on all iPhone 6's for VZW, you won't complain... right?

RIIIIGHT.

This. Is. The. Same. Exact. Thing.

A marketing DEAL to FORCE something on users. Period.

w00master

Two completely different things. If they pushed an app on the phone I couldn't remove yes that would suck. If it showed up in my purchased list... BFD.

Human Nature

People have to have something to complain about I suppose.

As for me, I'm not a huge U2 fan. I like some of their stuff, but they lost me somewhere around Zooropa. I wouldn't have bought this album. Decided to give it a spin, since I have it and all, and I must say I am enjoying it very much.

Favorite tracks in order:
- Raised by Wolves
- Every breaking wave
- California
- The Miracle
- Volcano

Nice job U2!

Thanks for the record Apple!

User abhibeckert makes some valid points about those who do not use a PC or Mac and only have the iPhone or iPad or iPod touch and got this album pushed to them without consent. I guess there could be millions of people in this situation.

So this begs a few questions: if Apple would not have pushed this to all users iTunes accounts, but still offered it as a free album you had to go download, would people still complain as much as they did?

Would people have complained if it was an artist that wasn't U2? Given the utter hate and disgust from some here over U2, I wonder if a band like Daft Punk or Fleet Foxes would garner the hate and vitriol free or pushed into iTunes library?

How many users have the "Automatic downloads" option enabled? I don't and it came unenabled on my iPhone 5s when I got it last year.

Singing a Justin Bieber song? Not unless you're a 15 year old girl.
But seriously, had the free gift been a rap album or a christmas song compilation, it wouldn't change the fact that people complaining about it would still be the most self-indulgent, entitled people on this planet.

Newsflash, millions of people listen to British and U.S. music even in countries where English is not the native language, and they're not as self-indulgent and entitled as some Apple customers.

That's because the majority of self-indulgent and entitled people are (a) certain age demographic (b) Americans
