What are you talking about? No one spent $100mil?

No. Somebody spent $100M. Might be collectively but that money is gone. You’d moan if the government wasted your investment - the shareholders are the same.
Anyhow, like to loathe the music we’ll see later if it was a good move or not.

Whether you like the album or not, it should not have been shoved down our throats. What the product was does not matter it's the way in which Apple forced it upon us that was wrong.

Apple had to do this so we can remove it from our iTunes purchased list. Entirely Apple's fault. But I am glad Apple fixed their mistake.

Because (for the 50th time), this was forced on the user. Just like VZW does with VZW Android phones: FORCE APPS ON USERS like VZ Navigator.

I don't think it's so much about being ungrateful but that Apple decided to push this album to everyone, rather than make it available for download if one wants.

The Apple-U2 deal is between them, the users have nothing to do with it, so why should users be forced to have the album on their devices?

This issue isn't about U2 or the album, it's about forcing things upon users.

Think of cellphones a decade ago, bloated with carrier software which you couldn't remove. Apple was the one who did away with that, and made a 'one OS for all' with the ability to install apps you wanted. But now they're doing exactly what they set out to defeat.

It would have been so easy...

Put it in the iTunes Store as a free download.

People who like U2 would have been exited and happy and people who don't like U2 could have just ignored it.

The world would have been a wonderful place.

But no, for the sole purpose of making a big marketing splash for U2, they had to force their music onto every single iTunes customer around the world.

Worst idea ever.

Imagine the waiter puts five sugar sachets in your coffee. When you complain that you didn't want sugar in your coffee, the waiter tells you to stop complaining because the sugar is free.

Apple has offered us hundreds of free gifts on iTunes since the beginning. But they were always items with a price of "free", you had to chose to add it to your library and download it.

This U2 album was pushed on everyone, no choice was given. That's the problem.

I should state that I have sympathy for those who have 'Automatic Downloads' on & as a result, the U2 album may have/was automatically downloaded onto their phones.

They are the ONLY PEOPLE who have any right to complain about the album being forced onto them. For everyone else complaining, the album wasn't forced onto you since you DIDN'T to listen or through the iTunes hiding option, view the album in your library.

The option was and is available of either downloading/listening to the album, deleting the album if it was automatically downloaded, hiding the album through iTunes or simply ignoring it - it's not really that hard. Like me, the album is sitting in my library however I haven't listened or viewed it yet. I'm not going to go bat-[bleep] crazy on an album that will disappear (from my library) in less than a month if I don't download it.

BTW, the comparison to bloated software or forced apps is irrelevant since there's often no way to delete them. In this case, there's ways to hide or delete the album either off the device or your account

Just wait... the largest album rollout ever becomes the most deleted album ever. (I'm actually a U2 fan, though so I'll keep my copy.)
Haha - "the largest rollout..." thats easy: just spam around : D
It would be much better to let every iTunes customer download ONE album THEY want FOR FREE - this would be a great PR show …

even i like U2 they seems to be outdated …

Actually, I think it is pretty great!

It is a FREE album that takes up virtually ZERO space on your device. Apple over estimated the intelligence and sanity of some of it's customers.

Actually it takes up 110.69 MB.

Your comment proves his assertion that Apple overestimated some people's intelligence. You didn't need a tool to delete them from your device if you bothered to download them at all.

I'm not a U2 fan, but I listened to this album at the gym today, and thought it was pretty decent. I wonder why Apple doesn't allow you to simply delete the album as you would any other in your library. Its probably part of the agreement with U2 to keep the album out there and to certify a certain number of copies were downloaded (maybe they won't even factor in the people who removed it in the totals). That kind of gimmickry I don't like. The U2 performance and the strange back and forth between Bono and Tim Cook was a weak way to end what had been a strong presentation. Now if Dr. Dre had been there...

If they were going to force the album upon everyone, they should have had the tool to remove it ready. If you force people to have something, not everyone will be happy, regardless of whether it is free.

As for the U2 album, its dire and I hope I never get something like it forced upon me again.

This is kind of Apple letting the horse out of the gate, then trying to close it afterward the horse has bolted. I didn't notice this, until i saw the problem Apple did here.

The problem, is they list it in your "purchased" section, this any "Automatic downloads" enabled on iOS (or Mac) would get it automatically and all other "auto-download" enabled devices.

That's the problem..... They should of just left it "as is", its on the home page anyway. For those who want it, they click and grab it like any other "free" purchase from product page.

Hope Apple learns their lesson from this..... My face would be red right now if I were Apple ... So many mistakes. First with the terrible stream, and now this...

I'm sure the default "attitude" would be "Steve wouldn't have done this."

Maybe, Maybe not ..

Not bragging, but i need to reiterate, it just me, or does Apple not even think before they do stuff thinking ahead and saying "Would users be upset" :p

unless you use shuffle then it'll play
Or I could exclude the whole album from shuffling or any other easy ways available to solve this "issue."
Also, do people who listen to music really shuffle their entire library? My own library contains everything from classical to pop, to kids songs and alternative rock; who listens to that with shuffle?

I shuffle yes.

Your way of excluding the U2 songs isn't easy from iTunes. From Apple TV even more pain staking

This is the last time U2 will ever be linked to an Apple product.

Another mistake Tim?...tick-tock tick-tock

Wow. People are really this ungrateful.

Ungrateful? So I should be grateful for the company whom I already spent thousands of dollars on to access my account without my consent and dump data into my devices that I never wanted? I've spend a lot of time and money to build my music library the way I want it. I can't stand U2. And I can't stand the attitude that shines through from both Apple and Boner and his friends: we know best, we know what you like, we will manage your settings and content for you. Well guess what? I'm quite "ungrateful" for any of that indeed. It's the typical "modern liberal" mindset and I'm happy to see that there was enough of a backlash against it. I hope the same is true at some point regarding the constant terror of "upgrades" forced onto my devices. And no, I don't want one of the oversized phones either. Thank you.

I wouldn't count on that. And these Irish idiots will continue with their quest. They're already now on the Fender Music Co board. Let's see how much damage they can do there. And the idiot lefty mayor of Boston is currently begging "U2" to play at Fenway park. I'm sure they'll agree since one marxist will not deny another marxists wishes I suppose.

Don't complain in the future if Apple starts doing that.

w00master

Big deal it takes 10 seconds to get rid of it. If people get upset over a little thing like that, they can go to Android. For the 50th time it's not a big deal.

Actually, it is a big deal. It's the real life equivalent of somebody kicking in your front door, putting down a bag of trash (with the option to open it up or not of course), and then tell you that you shouldn't complain since it's easy to remove.

And yes, I just did compare U2 to a bag full of trash. Because that's what they are - both as far as their "talent" is concerned and regarding their political and "social" attitude. Otherwise I have no strong feelings about that.

I shuffle yes.

In iTunes, right click the U2 Album, select Get Info, then tick the box next to the "Skip when shuffling" option on the Options tab. Done.

Wow, people are stupid.

It's really easy to hide purchases.

It's really easy to delete stuff in your iCloud.

If you have a setting that pushes purchases automatically to your phone (dumb move IMO), who's fault is that?

I mean really, talk about first world whinyness to the infinity power.
