I keep my old Apple devices as collectors items. So, won’t make a difference for me. But wow, knowing I spent 1200 on my iPhone X maxed out and now it’s only worth $280. Well I’m gonna squeeze it to the very end with iOS updates so I can get the full value for my money. Sure, gonna miss out new technologies, but for what I do on a smartphone, it’s just fine.
It's worth much more than $280.

I wonder what they do with the millions of perfectly good iPhones that get traded in every year? Refurbish 0.001% of the cherry ones and bury the rest into a landfill?
Seems extremely wasteful to trade in with apple. It's not like they're using them or reselling them— to the trash heap it all goes.

FYI - Apple doesn't do anything with them. Brightstar is the company that handles the trade ins. Typically phones in good condition end up being resold either in the US or overseas. Others will be recycled for the materials content.

A lot of people here haven’t experienced eBay or Paypal policies that are anti-seller. Generally all it takes is someone to claim they got nothing and do a charge-back and you’re out of luck. And with credit cards the buyer has up to 6 months to decide that they didn’t get the right product or it was inoperable, whatever before filing a charge. Happens more than you think.

Does anyone know if the taxable amount is the reduced price after the trade-in value has been subtracted?

Due to COVID-19 I may forego selling privately if I decide to upgrade this year.
Wonder if this is part of their logic for making prices lower. They probably expect more trades than usual since people will avoid private sales.

That my beloved 6S has only lost $10 in trade-in value since last September is, by 2020 standards, cause for a yuge celebration.

What??
My 6s is worth more than $70.00 Apple.

So don't sell it to a wholesaler, sell it privately. ebay sold prices look to be $75 to $100 depending on model/capacity.

Though once you pay for shipping, papal fee, ebay fee, that $100 becomes about $75.

Good luck.

Anyone know if a phone that was purchased yesterday and is currently shipping would have the trade-in price locked in? I believe so, since I think they charge you for the new phone minus the trade-in value, and only charge you more afterwards if the phone is in worse condition or if you never send it.

It should credit you for the amount from the day you purchased the phone. If it doesn’t, call Apple Support and they are great at refunding for this type of stuff. Please don’t go to an Apple Store for this.

i wonder how much the iPhone 11 will fetch for trade-in towards an iPhone 12, et al.?
Probably the same as a XS/Max when the 11/Pro/Max released.

Really? Where’d you see that?
There is no option to trade in any 11 series device. Same as a watch S5.

Previous year iPhones are usually available for trade in when the new ones are released.

I'm planning on using my Xr as a desktop coaster in my office.

That should turn some heads....

These prices are a joke. You're better off just privately selling your phone to get more money. But I suppose for those who don't want to deal with the hassle of selling their devices privately, trading in to Apple is the easier route to take.
The problem is if you sell privately your device will almost definitely end up in a landfill at some point, damaging the environment.

With Apple your device gets recycled by their robots in Texas, likely a reason for the lower trade-in value.

I guess I meant worth more to me. Lol

How long before launches do they normally drop trade in values?
Does this imply things are back on track for a Sep launch?

Always sell on eBay (or equivalent). I've gotten more money back on broken Apple products on eBay than what Apple is going to give these folks for great condition iPhones.
