I'm scared those who want 3G will have to wait a bit.

I couldn't wait last year and got Wi-Fi. It saved me sub, so that was a good thing. HOwever, I thinK I'd really like a 3G this time.

Credit card is ready. You either pre-order this in its first hour, or you wait like 3 months until it is in stock.

What a good rumor! In in Florida until the 11th when I return to rip off Britain so I really hope I can pick up an iPad 2 before I leave!!

Fingers and toes crossed!!

So, the fragmentation begins....

... and developers will have to worry about "which Ipad".

Isn't progress wonderful!

</sarcasm>

That's completely tongue-in-cheek, for the fans who decry "fragmentation" in the Android market and ignore the same issue as it develops for Idevices.

Yes, there will be things that "don't work on a Ipad I".

The alternative to "fragmentation" is "stagnation". Which do you want?

@magbarn as a developer I doubt they will have a retina display. Too many screen resolutions to deal with already. I hope we move to a resolution independent mode like 10.7 is gearing up for. Then we will see retina in iOS. Don't hold your breath for retina. It won't happen.

Edit: Nevermind.

From what i'm hearing, it's going to be iPad 2 Wi-Fi (Today), and iPad2 3G end of March? Will it be only in Apple stores at first, or can I get it at Target and the such?

Probably will be together. They did the delayed thing last year so details won't leak.

I still don't understand this logic. The iPad resolution is fine.

Well yeah, back in 2010...

A retina display is almost obligatory on a device such as an IPad. For me personally it would probably be worth the upgrade alone however I think these things are equally imperative:

512 mb ram

And

dual core a9 chip

iPad seriously needs a speed bump.

i would really like to see a 4G ipad this wednesday. something like the xoom where its 3G and 4G capable. especially since 4G technology is rolling out in many major cities.

This seems to suggest immediate availability rather than having to wait.

Also suggests the old version is unlikely to be kept alongside the new one à la iPhone 3GS

I was curious about this as well; if they were going to keep the old version and discount it and elevate the newer one. I'm hoping for immediate availability also.

Why was the 3G version delayed with the first iPad ?

I don't have an iPad and will be buying an iPad 2. Pretty sure I want the 3G version, it will be hard to wait. Since, I have waited this long, a few weeks more will be easy.

Only very marginal when e.g. you want to access the camera you should check if a camera is available - it's not that you have to check the availability of 99 different cameras to use the right code for it.

Nope

Yes, there will be things that "don't work on a Ipad I".

True, new features like camera will of course not work on the old one - but this is a simple one line check - actually you already have to do this one line check for iPhone/iPod Touch compatibility.

99.9% of the application won't care on which iPad generation they run on - it just works :)

The alternative to "fragmentation" is "stagnation".

Nope

Now this whole iPad event is VERY VERY VERY good news for me. Because I hope for some clues as to what the iPhone 5 or 4S will be packing under the hood.....
I'm going to guess more ram and dual core CPU and GPU all packed into a tiny chip labelled A5.

Would like a 3G enabled iPad 2 but think the $129 premium is steep. Hopefully all models have 3G available. They'd definitely sell more subscriptions.

RE: 4G: I'd be surprised. With iterations each year I think they'll wait until 4G has better coverage and is a more desired feature. Finally I haven't seen any 4G rumors.

a retina display would be too extreme on a device that size. 4 times the pixels is just not necessary. not to mention the reduction in battery life and performance it would cause. although maybe a 20-25% reduction in pixel size would be nice.
