Pre-ordering question...

Quick question for a new guy on here. I plan on pre-ordering the ipad2, can I pre-order online and pick it up @ an Apple store the same day it is released? Or will Apple only offer pre-orders online for home delivery? If able to pick it up @ an Apple store, do I do that online or call the store? Thanks in advance.

I may consider purchasing a used first-gen iPad once the second-gen comes out.

That's what I was thinking too, I was even scouting iPads on CL last night... came across some good deals too.

But now I'm thinking I'll wait til Wednesday, and if the difference is enough (really just if it's a HD screen/dual-core/significantly more RAM, I don't care about marginally thinner or front/back cameras) and it's available immediately I'll go for the new one.

Well- 32 GB would be sufficient for me but it better have front and back oriented lasers. Or at least 1 swivel laser.

I am so sick of you "laser" fan boizs... jeeesh get a life already!!!! laser this-laser that - WHO CARES! as long as it has 4K video output AND glass-less 3D - I'll be satisfied.

I'd like the iPad (and iPhone/iPod touch) to be able to be used as a stand-alone computer, so people with zero computer knowledge (I'm talking about people who never used a mouse) can get an iPad and stop bugging me with their "computer problems".

this made me feel so old - we used to consider folks who use the mouse as noobs... wow - times have changed.

iPad w/o retina is like watching standard definition tv.

iPad w/ retina would be like watching HD TV.

I'll wait...

The iPad 1 is just under 720p. For the screen size, that is quite cool. I would think that better contrast and black levels would be a far bigger improvement than just cramming more pixels into the screen.

I don't think there is a source for 2048 by 1536, 9.7 inch screens that can provide the volume Apple would need. Even if they had such a source, they would need to pump four times the pixels to the screen, slowing down performance.

Improved screen yes, silly high pixel count, no.

Old man:

"I remember when people used touch screens. Back then we actually touched our computers, Now voice control is old fashion and people just think at their computers. These new kids are all nubes!"

If you are interested, I might consider selling mine (32GB 3G) This also goes for anyone else that is interested.

I am going to wait to see how far down the prices go on the first-gen used market. I am not really in the market for an iPad, but if prices drop enough due to the new ones coming out, I may consider it.

Yet all 6 versions of iPad1 still ship "within 24 hours" from store.apple.com.

I suspect there will be six new models at the same pricing as the current models and that Apple will flip a switch Wednesday and start shipping the new ones on all pending orders.

Has anyone heard whether Apple retail stores are running thin yet?

On the internet, I am a nice person. In real life, I am a troll. I understand the people working at the Apple store are not allowed to comment on upcoming releases. I think I will go in and ask them about the new external blu-ray drive and the cotton candy dispenser.

UK Launch on Thursday?

It's kind of sad how I find myself wishing away weeks of my life every time Apple are about to make an announcement.

At least on here I am among equals.....

Apple Media Event - March 2nd

Does anyone know if Apple will be streaming their Media Event live like they normally do? If so, does anyone know the link or where the link can be found on March 2nd?

just a few questions about buying the ipad 2. if it's avaiable immediately, how long until it shows up in apple stores? how long before the ipad 2 is found in non apple stores stateside?

I love an Apple event — can't wait — but I own a 64GB 3G iPad already and without a Retina, I can't pull the trigger again. Will reluctantly wait. I love my iPad and know those who buy iPad 2 will be very happy with their purchase. Congrats! ;)

It will most likely be delayed by several hours (5-6), but will be listed on their homepage when available. Generally within 24 hours, it'll be available to download from iTunes to keep locally.

However, we could get lucky and it will be live. Links will be everywhere at that point (macrumors will list the link) and should have no trouble finding it once Apple makes that clear.

There are far more important things they can do to the display than upping the pixel count. They can increase contrast and black levels. They can provide better color. They can reduce glare and provide brighter back light in sunny conditions.

Increased pixel count is the bottom of my screen wish list.

I'm sure it will be streamed like the last media events were, but the link won't be up until March 2nd before the event starts.

Nobody will know for sure until Apple announces it.

While that would be nice, I suspect they can't legally ship you something you didn't actually order, even if it is technically better than what you ordered. They would probably either ship the original orders and just deal with the returns as needed, or cancel the orders and allow people to place a new order for an iPad 2 if desired.

Unknown, but it seems likely. In the past, a link has usually appeared on the Apple.com homepage the morning of the event (usually 2-3 hours prior to the event).

I'm really hoping iPad-2 gets 1GB of RAM. I run LogMeIn on my iPad today and with my iMac's 2560x1440 resolution, I find I am running out of RAM on the iPad way too often (having to downsize the iMac's resolution remotely through LogMeIn). 256MB is certainly too little, and 512MB would still seem a bit underwhelming since the iPhone-4 has been there for almost a year.

Sure would be nice to be able to run apps like that and background others without losing their state.

Never mind the fact that other competitors are running with 1GB now. Anything else would be disappointing.
