Pre-Order question

Can you typically pre-order/reserve an upcoming Apple product in an Apple store with cash with a down payment, or does it have to be with a credit card and/or through their website?

It's like I already have one. It's bought.

So will the WiFi Xoom be available this week after all now? ;)

TABLET WAR!!!!

I just hope iOS5 is a major revision. After five years it's time to mix it up!

Mine too. It's reminding me of the whole Megapixel wars with digital cameras. More pixels are not needed to improve displays significantly. IPS and OLED would be much nicer!!!

It's completely different. For one, we're talking .7 megapixels here. Are you saying you'd rather have a .76 megapixel camera than a 3 megapixel camera?

Also, more megapixels in cameras come at the expense of the sensor's ability to accurately capture light, resulting in noisier images. This doesn't happen with LCD displays. The colour accuracy does not degrade, you don't get more noise, and you get much sharper text and better looking images.

That's the thing. I don't own an iPad. But I go into the Apple Store and hold my iPhone 4 next to the iPad and the difference in clarity of text is overwhelming. I just will refuse to buy an iPad until it has a display that can match my phone.

Next time, save yourself the trip and from the comfort of your own home, hold your precious retina display up to your HD television and laptop screen, instead. You'll surely recoil in horror!

Either way, you could probably use a new hobby. I suggest getting an iPad... :)

TABLET WAR!!!!

The WiFi Xoom is apparently being advertised in Japan already. It'd be nice if it came elsewhere soon, too.

To me, a large tablet-sized device like the iPad or Xoom should come out with WiFi first, since they'll mostly be used at home or work or campus, where hotspots reign.

A smaller book-sized device like the Galaxy Tab or other forthcoming 7-inchers make more sense with 3G/4G, as they're more portable.

I just hope iOS5 is a major revision. After five years it's time to mix it up!

Probably no major change internally, but I wouldn't be surprised if Apple threw in something cute/clever ... perhaps a 3D UI view seen by tilting the iPad. Something flashy that will grab customers' attention even if not a real breakthrough.

Maybe they will allow you to put a folder inside of a folder!

Anyone...

Gamble that the Ipad form factor will remain the same and that this update will keep the aluminum but be lighter and faster... will have front cam but not back...
his might be the Ipad 3GS...

Well, now we can officially say we will know tomorrow. What will MR do with the new iPad officially announced?

Oh, that's right, there's that phone thing;)

I just cleared inventory. Meaning, I just sold my original iPad on ebay so I'm ready. Just going a day without it is making me itchy.

It's kind of sad how I find myself wishing away weeks of my life every time Apple are about to make an announcement.

At least on here I am among equals.....

haha me too

I come here to feel good about myself - to tell myself that I am not a sad little human being for wanting to time warp just to see Apple product announcements

is this true?

9 to 5 Mac reports that a number of Apple resellers have been notified that iPad supplies are currently "constrained" and that there is no estimate on when they may become available. The development is not much of a surprise, considering that Apple has been widely rumored to be introducing the next-generation iPad at a media event on Wednesday, just two days from now.The fact that supplies are already drying up does hint, however, that we may see the new iPad go on sale sooner rather than later. That would match up with a report from AppleInsider late last week claiming that customers should be able to expect "near immediate availability" of the new iPad.

completely disagree with this

Quick question for a new guy on here. I plan on pre-ordering the ipad2, can I pre-order online and pick it up @ an Apple store the same day it is released? Or will Apple only offer pre-orders online for home delivery? If able to pick it up @ an Apple store, do I do that online or call the store? Thanks in advance.

Generally speaking, Apple has allowed two options

1. Pay online, delivered to you at home/work
2. Reserve online, pay at store when you pick it up

No calls either way. It will all be on the website or via their Apple Store app

I am typing this message now on my V1 iPad, and I must say that an increase in resolution would be greatly welcomed

While I would not be opposed to an increase in resolution, in my opinion the anti-glare, back light etc are more important. I use my ipad outside for shoots and it is a pain in the ass on sunny days. Plus it would shut up Amazon.

... and developers will have to worry about "which Ipad".

Isn't progress wonderful!

</sarcasm>

That's completely tongue-in-cheek, for the fans who decry "fragmentation" in the Android market and ignore the same issue as it develops for Idevices.

Yes, there will be things that "don't work on a Ipad I".

The alternative to "fragmentation" is "stagnation". Which do you want?

You aren't seriously comparing the amount of"fragmentation"in Android to iOS are you?Really?
Progress makes some inevitable, but many different models in one year is an order of magnitude difference.

And I guess you and others are going to post that fact in every frickin' thread for the next year or two until you get what you want.

WE GET IT.
REALLY!
enough already.

I'll be ready to buy whatever the top spec 3G version is as soon as it is available here in the UK :D

I bought my first apple product last June (this MBP 13") and then started looking at I-Pads..... been holding off buying since hearing about the I-Pad 2.

Can't wait to get my hands on one :)
