How about last week with the new MacBook Pros? I don't recall seeing anyone bitching about how the new MBPs are only twice as fast as the old ones, and the new Thunderbolt port only does 10gbps and daisy-chains 7 devices with no loss in speed.

I do agree with your expectations though, and I wouldn't mind them either since then I'd have no problem just getting a used/refurbed iPad 1.

Always funny how people set their expectations high and base what Apple has to do on the competitions specs. Then they rip Apple when THEIR expectations aren't met.

Please people , buy what you need and like. Maybe the ipad is not for you?
No harm no foul. Does it have to be Apple? No!

But it's the best until further notice.

If you know Apple, they will do one step at a time within their userfriendly experience approach.
Competitions specs to them of no interest

The high tech must have latest spec crowd will ALWAYS be disappointed, so why do they keep doing this to themselves?

Millions of ipad buyers are currently not missing a thing and are enjoying their ipad.

Looks like it. If they were keeping it on (like the 3GS with the iPhone 4) it wouldn't be drying up left and right.

... and developers will have to worry about "which Ipad".

Isn't progress wonderful!

</sarcasm>

That's completely tongue-in-cheek, for the fans who decry "fragmentation" in the Android market and ignore the same issue as it develops for Idevices.

Yes, there will be things that "don't work on a Ipad I".

The alternative to "fragmentation" is "stagnation". Which do you want?

all ipad 1 apps still work on ipad 2. most apps going forward will be compatible with both, some will drop support on ipad 1 due to camera or gyro

Actually, I saw some stuff not run quite right, as I guess there's not enough memory (if you have stuff running in the background) or the processor is too slow...

Back to that vicious cycle...

what are you talking about?!

ipad 2 will not be slower than iPad 1.

Well I for one can't wait.

When I originally purchased an iPad, I only did so because it was the new Apple gadget. I remember waiting in line at my local BB at 6:00a asking myself, is this even worth it.

Well after 10 months of owning my iPad and recently selling it in preparation of the iPad 2, I can say I truly miss it. It is a fantastic device, that fulfilled a need I didn't know existed.

Is it for everyone, of course not - but I like 100's of thousands of other people will be anxiously waiting with cash in hand for the next generation.

No Retina screen=No upgrade for me

Congratz to the lucky ones, getting their's this week.

Maybe you'll find something in the CEBIT EXPO that opens tomorrow in Europe.

40!! Forty ,did I mention Forty?

Tablet devices are being launched, some don't even have a price yet.
All kinds of sizes and price points.

I am typing this message now on my V1 iPad, and I must say that an increase in resolution would be greatly welcomed. The font on this website (any many others) is extremely pixilated when compared to the iPhone 4, and somewhat difficult to get used to.

Bring it !!! I'm ready to purchase iPad 2 !!!
I know lots of people who have the first iPad, and I held off buying... but I'm ready !!! Bring it Apple !!!!

Same here. I'm one of the people holding out. I've sworn off buying the first version of any new product (been bit pretty badly a few times by that) but I'm ready now. Can't wait for whatever tomorrow brings. :D

From what i'm hearing, it's going to be iPad 2 Wi-Fi (Today), and iPad2 3G end of March? Will it be only in Apple stores at first, or can I get it at Target and the such?

This is what you are hearing or this is what you made up? If you were in the know, you wouldn't be asking if target had it. Fail.

Nice but bad for those who bought the ipad yesterday

Was in the Apple store Friday and a couple people bought iPads. It was hard to hold my tongue.

Because
- Apples marketing philosophy is "there is no new product until there IS a new product", so they'll keep selling iPad 1 as if there will never be an iPad 2, until iPad 2 is announced and ready to ship.
- they still have iPad 1s to sell, so might as well sell them to anyone who will buy them (and that's a lot)
- accounting has already accounted for return-and-upgrade of late sales.

Got 'em? sell 'em. Cope with the consequences.

If people would actually read the article, it says shipments to RESELLERS are constrained. So, yes, stores will have them, but won't be getting more. Not that hard to figure out if you would read and not jump to conclusions based on nothing.

I can see Best Buy having the old iPads at least two weeks after they are available in an Apple store. It seems like they wait until they sell out of the old products at full retail before they sell the new ones.

I picked up one of the new MacBook Pros at Best Buy Friday night. They also had the old ones available at reduced prices.

Increased pixel count is the bottom of my screen wish list.

Mine too. It's reminding me of the whole Megapixel wars with digital cameras. More pixels are not needed to improve displays significantly. IPS and OLED would be much nicer!!!

Apparently we disagree. Technical specifications matter only to people like us (I guess) who would spend our free time on a rumors website. They don't matter to the public. The source of Apple's mindshare has nothing to do with RAM, pixels, or other arcane hardware. As long as the next iPad runs iOS, ships from Apple, and comes out this Spring, lightening will strike again. All lot of that is my opinion, but it worked out pretty well last year, so we'll see.

When I was listening to the couple next to me at the Apple store, the only question on the hardware was how many songs and movies can the 32 hold versus the 16. They didn't ask about screen resolution, RAM, processor speed and cores or any other technical specs. They bought on the spot because they could see and touch the device and it made a good impression. That is why the average consumer will be thrilled with either version and Apple will sell millions more.
