Indeed, Issey Miyake makes really beautiful clothes, paying attention to detail. Unfortunately he passed away, but the company still makes incredible clothing.

It's really strange how the posters react to this news. I mean, they say they like Apple products because of their attention to detail, making beautiful products. Yet this threat is filled with naysayers, filled with people who don't 'understand' the product. Some even dislike the price. It's quite mind boggling.
I like Ferrari cars. I love their performance, I love their style, I love their attention to detail and quality that comes it.

I hate the Ferrari jackets that everyone buys in the giftshop as overpriced, styleless crap.

Ferrari makes cars. And apparently they also make accessoires.
Issey Miyake makes clothes. Wearables. Purses, socks, hats. And now this iPhone wearable.
Those things belong in the same category. Ferrari jackets not.

Still, it's just my opinion, and yours differ. That's what I like about people: they can open my eyes to different views.
 
Right. Because it is the critics of a brand who are well-known for tying their identity to the brand..

They are know for tying their identity to some fantastical self-image of being "critical thinkers". In reality, they just go around insulting people who like stuff (calling them sheep, shills, kool aid drinkers etc.)

With products like these, most people will not express their desire to own the product, but we'll get hundreds of posts of people saying its a rip-off and how people who buy these are idiots, etc. They will also claim ther are somehow surrounded by fanatics who "will buy anything".

You can build your identity around cynicism and being anti-brand.

They're out of their minds! Just like the price tag on the vision pro. For those that are going to buy these things, I see why others call us Apple sheep. Do what you want with your money.....but I'll pass on this one.

Apple has teamed up with Japanese fashion house ISSEY MIYAKE to launch iPhone Pocket, a 3D-knitted limited edition accessory designed to carry an iPhone, AirPods, and other everyday items.

The accessory is like a stretchy pocket, not unlike an iPod Sock, but elongated to form a strap made of a ribbed, elastic textile that fully encloses an iPhone yet allows you to glimpse the display through its open structure. ISSEY MIYAKE's design director Yoshiyuki Miyamae said it is inspired by the concept of "a piece of cloth," and described it as exploring "the joy of wearing iPhone in your own way." (For what it's worth, the brand's founder designed Steve Jobs' iconic black mock-turtleneck.)

iPhone Pocket comes in two versions. There's a short strap design available in eight colors for $149.95, and a long strap design in three colors for $229.95. The short strap comes in lemon, mandarin, purple, pink, peacock, sapphire, cinnamon, and black, while the long strap comes in sapphire, cinnamon, and black. Both lengths fit any iPhone model.

Apple says the color palette was created to mix and match with all iPhone models, and that the iPhone Pocket can be worn in a variety of ways – handheld, tied onto bags, or worn directly on the body.

The limited-edition release will be available from November 14 on Apple's online store in France, Greater China, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the UK, and the U.S. It will also be available to buy at 10 flagship Apple Store locations worldwide, including Apple Regent Street in London, Apple SoHo in New York, and Apple Ginza in Tokyo.

That is true, but when Prada or Yves Saint Laurent made iPhone cases for 200 USD plus (or what ever it was), no one batted an eye because it was just them doing their thing (their car) and Apple was not involved.
In this case, Apple IS involved and it's like Hugo Boss teaming up with Ferrari.
 
This is simply a show-off product, nothing else and I really don't condemn people buying this.
This is made for people buying stuff, that they don't really need, but need it, to define themselves in their society.

There is a saying in German:
"Mit Geld, das wir nicht haben, kaufen wir Dinge, die wir nicht brauchen, um Leute zu beeindrucken, die wir nicht mögen!"
Translation (from Google):
"With money we don't have, we buy things we don't need to impress people we don't like!"

Steve Jobs got his turtlenecks at The Gap. Swear I saw him strolling through Embarcadero Center back in the day, and like Archer, he had seven black turtlenecks in a Gap bag, and seven slightly darker black turtlenecks in an Eddie Bauer bag.

If you have a look at Issey Miyake's own website, it's pretty clear that this "collaboration" with Apple was mostly co-branding with Issey Miyake putting in the absolute minimum amount of work needed to make it "look" like one of their designs. All the product literature clearly came directly from Apple's marketing department and the whole section just ends with "for more info go to Apple.com". I would say that Ferrari's brand designers put more work into Ferrari apparel than Issey Miyake put into the iPhone Pocket.

This co-branding "design" concept is actually much closer to the "Designed by F.A. Porsche" line of hard drives and other computer accessories that LaCie had put out in the early-to-mid 2000's. Except that LaCie's Porsche accessories actually worked quite well for their purpose and were only slightly overpriced.

Indeed, this collaboration is between 2 great companies, with Issey passed away it's most definitely more marketing than anything.

Still I think his legacy or whatever I should call it has created something they have been doing for ages. No idea if Porsche or Ferrari were ever in the HDD / jacket business.

You seem to be projecting pretty heavily here. I haven't seen too many detractors here claiming to have any special kind of "critical thinking" skills, and those who throw around such insults are quickly suspended from these forums and their comments removed. On the contrary, there are quite a number of people in these forums who absolutely seem to take any criticism of the brand as a personal attack on themselves, most likely because they actually do fit the "brand loyalist" label.

Do remember that we're talking about an iPhone case that costs upwards of $150, resembles a sock, and which doesn't even appear to be designed in such a way that one could effectively use their phone while it is actually in the case. I would wager that the vast majority of people talking about this case right now had not even heard of Issey Miyake prior to its announcement. The only reason why anyone is even thinking of buying this thing at all is because it was announced and promoted by Apple and because there is some historical link to Steve Jobs.

I don't think the term "brand loyalist" is misplaced here.

Again, this reeks of projection. Pretty much everyone in the world has a list of brands that they will actively avoid and actively recommend against for some reason or another. Doing so has nothing to do with "building an identity" around being anti-brand.
 
Why do we need this? This is becoming ridiculous.

The is way far from the famous SJ story about his process to select a couch.

PS: Too many people with too little direction that need to deliver something within the organization to stay relevant.
