I can't shame the young'uns for getting their socks. I know I got my sock back in 2004. Too old to go chasing socks now.

Interesting choice of words!

Though I do not see it taking off at all.
I dont think they are supposed to 'take off'. The socks wouldnt have been big sellers either although I did buy one and loved them.

My personal take is like most Issey Miyake designs [which I do have a lot of time for] - I love to look at it but rarely see anything I want to buy [although my partner did in Japan last year]. I will have to see these IRL to make a judgement.

See, I don't get this. We can disagree about business practices and operating systems all day long but the fact is Apple currently have the strongest device setup they've ever had, from the best value desktop computer in history to a can of soup phone that is a DSLR in your pocket. If none of us thought this we'd be over on WindowsCentral or AndroidAuthority putting the boot in.

Why do some people get so triggered by a company that makes $3500 VR headsets commissioning a $150 tote bag nobody on this forum would ever buy anyway? Are they not allowed to make anything fun?
Somewhat seriously, my answer would depend on how much value is in that accessory. Apple has always sold expensive first party accessories and has made products that are expensive for awhile, usually of good value and/or quality. Even the VP is a good quality device, one that is genuinely worth of its price compared to the Quest 3, if we are simply talking about the build quality/performance/display/camera (of course, we don’t, as it may be 7x better than the MQ3 but 7x 0 utility is still 0). This sock… may be of high quality, but smells like a blatant cashgrab. A cashgrab done by a particular car company through asking deposit for a future product i can understand (if not defend), a cashgrab done by one of the most valuable company in the world is pure greed.

I've been very quietly and patiently waiting like 16 years for iPhone underwear, and now this.

Talk about an insult.

Thought for a second that this is not a real product. Colorful indeed. But very very costly. Might sell as it is a limited edition. However would have liked for it to be available globally.

I saw the article, and saw 200 comments. I'm not going to read them, but I can guess what they are. Just a reminder for everyone: you're really not forced to buy this. I promise you're not. It's fine. Also, another important thing to remember - the existence of this is not an attack on you, your identity or anything like that. Carry on.

You’ve just jumped into a thread with 200+ comments, admitted you can’t be bothered to read those comments, but did want to take the time to fire a few shots at the things you guessed we are saying.

I’ve read the entire thread and I don’t recall anyone confusingly thinking this product was a mandatory purchase. But if you’ve helped someone out I’ve missed, that is a generous act of kindness.

Also, another important thing to remember - people are not criticising you, your friends, or your family when they say mean things about an Apple product. I promise you they are not. It’s fine.

The amount of negativity on this product is astounding. Apple is a company that has a taste for style. Why do you think Steve had the engineers sign the inside of a Mac? It’s not about the hardware. It’s not about the software. It’s about an experience. One they deliver on.

Many people here respond to the product because it’s not for them. They think it’s overpriced. Some don’t see the point of the product. I think they are forgetting what Apple does. They do partnerships. Why do you think Apple still has Google as the default search engine? Because they think it’s the best available. Yelp in Maps? Yup, a partnership because they can’t do Yelp. iPhone cameras? The order from Sony. Many many parts fro many many products get ordered at Samsung. iCloud? Outsourced. The list goes on.

Back to Issey Miyake. His website kinda sucks. But boy, the products. The design. If there’s ever greatness, this is it. But don’t judge products from a website; go to a store. Get to feel the products. Feel the design. It is all so thoughtful, so well designed.

I think many here will want to rethink their opinion on design. Design that Apple is proud of.

PS He passed away in 2022, at 84.
People think this stuff is easy and mock. I bet you cant find a seam on these 'socks' for example.
But really they are for a minor group tbh and even though I appreciate the design and how they are made, I wont be getting one.

The price doesn't seem so bad given it's a big fashion brand. $150 for the short strap when the Apple crossbody strap, or fine woven case are $60 each is not some crazy luxury goods price.

I personally wouldn't pay for any of that because I'm not going to waste money to surround myself with petrochemical toxic goods.

I bet within a week you can a knitting pattern available for you to make your own if you have knitting capability.

Honestly the biggest surprise is they had the "audacity" to have both models be Asian, I thought at this point ISSEY MIYAKE brand was basically self-loathing since 80% of their models are non-Asian.

I'm not sure I understand this sentiment on this product. How does this make your phone any more susceptible to theft as the cross body, or just holding the phone in your hand? I certainly won't be buying one at that price, but I don't think I would feel any more at risk if I was using it.
And isn't every iPhone tied to an iCloud account and practically worthless when stolen?
