That's the most frusterating thing. I hate seeing NFC terminals that aren't turned on
In a way it makes sense though. (Some) businesses in the US really seem to resent Visa and MasterCard and don't want to make it easier to pay with a card or device with their logo on it. I don't think it's just about the fees either; the government's basically said that businesses can charge extra to pay with card. I think it's more of a control thing, really, since NFC among other things kills their ability to do things like track people without their consent.
