Apple has become just another megacorp going after the lowest common denominator o customer. Tim Cook the beancounter is turning them into Samsung West and living off the hip, innovative reputation that Steve Jobs dedicated his life to creating for Apple. Soon the rest of the industry will pass Apple by; it has become painfully clear that all Tim Cook knows how to do is crunch numbers because his track record of innovation while at Apple is flat out abysmal.

I'm sure Dr. Itaru Endo, director of digestive surgery and liver transplantation for Yokohoma City University, an Apple customer, doesnt like being called the lowest common denominator. Althought I cant help but imagine a world where he was and how wonderful it would be.

Also, you do realise that Tim has all the qualities (and more) of a great CEO. Steve Jobs wasnt a traditional CEO, and was not a great "CEO". You couldnt put another person with his qualities in that role. Great CEOs have great people heading up the teams below them to do their respective tasks, and the CEO steers the ship. Tim Cook should not be sitting down with a pencil and pad innovating. He should be directing where the great innovators focus their attention, and you can bet that is precicely what he is doing. Steve Jobs worked closely with the guy for long enough, and had confidence in him. How long have you worked closely with him to belive otherwise?

I bet doctors are pissed they can't see a visual representation of liver blood flow AND have a stocks widget urpen at the serm term..

Or a Skype call. Hey mom, look at me, im cutting this guy open!

----------

That's the most creative version of "OMG Apple is doomed!" that I've seen yet; nicely done.

Lol

I especially liked Samsung West. Although I imagine its quicker going East over the Pacific than through europe and over the Atlantic. Maybe Samsung Further East.

under Steve

1998 - plastic transparent PC
2001 - Mp3 player
2003 - Napster that you have to pay for
2007 - the Mp3 player, with a phone built in
2008 - thinner laptop
2009 - service pack for OS X
2010 - bigger Mp3 player with phone, but without the phone
2011 - Circle

Its all in how you present things isnt it. For example, you could also present your "under steve" list like that.

Lol what? Come back in 2 years and try to say the same thing.

P.S. Team Cook isn't Steve Jobs Jr. That much is obvious, and you can't expect him to be. I think it's hilarious that as soon as people realize the best innovator of a company passes, they assume that the company is "doomed". Companies change yes, but that doesn't mean that they're all of a sudden "doomed"

I like Team Cook better!

We get it. The iPad is great. Everyone needs an iPad. The world would be **** without the iPad.

Now please, use the time, money, and expertise of whatever it took to make this and accelerate other product development.

Sorry, but some people are really thick. Apple has thousands of employees and billions in the bank. There is no rerouting of engineering capability and / or money to satisfy marketing requirements.

Apple is where it is because it does marketing well. It has helped finance the development of new product lines. In stead of bitching you could try to understand how these things work.

----------

Ridiculous, just ridiculous...

Look at his comment history. There's a consistent pattern of ignorance.

I find this sort of marketing sickly, but I guess Apple has always been the first to show off how breathtakingly amazingly awesomely revolutionary and unapologetically magical their products apparently are.

It seems to make people tick, so I guess it works.

What is sickly about it? I find this better than just smiling people with the thing in their hands.

I currently work for an organization involved in clinical trials. We are working on deploying Apple products to monitor complications and symptoms in patients and subjects. I think that is a better example of what these things can contribute than to just say “You can write an email on it and browse to your local newspaper”.

Product development is not solely about hardware.

Because just like MMOs, animators and photographers can totally Photoshop the new working code into place?

Not only that, I'd expect his experience with Steve would give him the knowledge of when to try and push the creatives, and when to GTFO of their way.

There has clearly been a slow down with new devices or radical redesign of existing devices, aside from the MacPro this December.

What we need to take into account is that most products have matured over time and that the same is true for the markets that they are in. Radical designs are therefore harder to do, and this is not only confined to Apple. Look at the Galaxy smartphone line, which is only improving incrementally, blackberry and windows phone. All incremental changes.

Most of the radical new products that apple introduced were logical evolutions of existing ones:

iPod -> iPhone -> iPad
MacBook -> Macbook Air
iTunes to sync existing music -> iTunes music -> iTunes movies

There is currently no logical evolution from any of the existing lines other than to expand into different versions (size, color, performance).

The interval with which Apple will introduce radical new products will get longer as a consequence. Maybe a watch and a TV are around the corner, but there is limited scope from here, unless Apple enters new markets.

Once people understand these things it is easier to realise what is happening.

oh wow, and how could a blood vessel tracing app improve the life of the average person?
seriously, the message they want to convey here is senseless.
just because there are some highly specific apps that can play a highly specific role, doesn't mean that i, normal person like most of you here, might need an ipad to live...

but sadly, this will appeal to many people who can't see what's behind advertising, and the power of it.

No disrespect intended, but might it be you that is misinterpreting the advertisement? Normal users will not be swayed by the fact that the iPad can be used in operative procesdures, under water or while skydiving. The point of the advertisment is (if you ask me) to demonstrate the versatility of the solution beyond the uses that normal people have.

I work as a consultant and my company has a large innovation center. You would not believe how much requests my company gets to produce tailored apps and peripherals for the iPad to facilitate the work of professionals. Examples are smart meter interfaces to measure energy usage at home or production by solar panels. Other examples include the use of iPads as training devices for medical students using augmented reality technology.

Although I detest the implementation, The Netherlands has pioneered the use of iPad-only schools (Steve Jobs schools). I see with my own niece and nephew how good apps can accelerate their cognitive development (they are not on this school, thank god).

The iPad IS a revolution and it is shaping the way people use technical solutions to enrich their lives and to do things more effective and efficiently. I think Apple is best placed to make the statements that they are making here.

Once again it's not Tim Cooks job to innovate. I would go on but you already think you know everything. Some people are so far back in the race they think they are winning.

ha... ha... camera, file system -some dream, some more

For sure we go under water - but for sure not with an iPad of that quality - maybe in 1 year :D
-Camera (chip and lens-system) is worse than level of iPhone 5s - and without flash
-No REAL file system, no hardware connectivity to Mac (Lightning to USB e.g.) for photo- or video-transfers

Some are dreaming:confused:
We, too: BUT of real improvements to iPad and iOS ;)

Right Mr. Joker! Filling gaps with fluff won't make you a case. We could do the same but we all know its not about that. Admit the defeat and go back to your hole, troll!
And next time you decide to bash stuff at least get the facts right!

Wait a few more years. Then start complaining.

not arguing against the point that something might happen but seriously do you really think it works like this?

meanwhile we have cook constantly saying super exciting things are one their way and we have jony doing his same hyperbole videos for every "groundbreaking" thing they release. whether apple has stopped innovating remains to be seen but how they interact, look at and treat the customers is imo definitely different

It is different, but it has to do with the fact that the markets that Apple is in are all fundamentally different than three-five years ago. They have all matured very rapidly and competition has intensified. Most people only look at the company to judge the performance and forget that the market is the most important driver here.

when i say different i rather mean how they specifically treat and feel about their customers.

to me its bordering on contempt and we should feel privileged to be allowed buy apple products ie cook showing how much devs have been paid etc.

thats got nothing to do with whether its a laptop, dekstop or mobile phone.

like the iwork showcasing the other month. why not come out and say we stripped it of its features for this and this purpose but they will be reinstated asap instead all we got was its the latest and greatest and yada yada yada. just like ives videos are becoming a nauseating joke.

the following is obviously very subjective but im not really feeling any charm from apple. jobs was cocky as hell but had a charm and passion. most of them (federighi excluded) are as relatable to me as some senior exec at citigroup and i dont find that appealing at a consumer electronics company. that kind of environment rather breads these endless lawsuits than interesting and life improving inventions.

Cool video. Gives you an idea of how the device is used in many different fields. Not just for gaming and web browsing. I like it! :D
