Its not that simple, really. The watch has very little utility except for people who need to scan notifications in real time.
I think app development for a postage size ui won't be magical. The watch is a solid niche product for uncritical brand enthusiasts.

Oh no, this is going to be a ubiquitous product category. Nothing niche about it. It just needs to be fully fleshed out. But if Apple can't themselves define and make the case for it..

If Google released android wear with those loading times everyone on here would be pissing themselves laughing at the pathetic performance of them and rightly so. Apple should have never released the OS like it is right now.

And I have said it from the start.

1: the UI doesn't look like anything they have been doing with the other operating systems they have made. Dark and neon colours with apps that look similar to pre iOS 7 themes.
What happened to consistency? It's also a very confusing interface.

2: the whole way of zooming in and out and scrolling around to find a tiny app. You don't want to be doing that on a tiny screen. Try that when running or even walking. It's hard and unintuitive. It's like they did it to give meaning to putting a crown on it.

3: yet again Siri sucks in its implementation. Yet again Siri is again lagging behind its competitors. So much potential yet they have hardly drastically improved it.

1. They actually mention in WWDC, that they re-thought the UI, because the existing iOS doesn't work well on a small screen - besides, since its OLED it'll save more power with black background.

2. Yeah that suck, but on the other hand, why would you use apps while running :p Thats what notifications/glances are for

3. Im located in denmark - its pretty much spot on when i speak, but i dont know how it works in other languages. it actually understands me better than the iPhone, which is pretty weird. I have sent a few sms's while driving, worked like a charm.

Some apps suck on it, because of loading times but that will be taken care of with the next watchOS, so no worries. Besides, i see it more as an extension for notifications, and glances - I actually dont use my iPhone that much anymore, because the watch tell me whether to use time to react on stuff.

Yea but they made it even worst using the current pathetic of selecting apps. The old iPod nano has a very clean, simple and much simpler user interface. Just it didn't look as cool but it worked and it was easier to tap on the apps.

And in terms of Siri I wasn't really talking about the accuracy, but features. Google now, heck even Cortona, seems to have more features compared to Siri. And a watch was the perfect to implement features , they haven't even released a developer Api for it yet have they?

hehe, well the old nano didn't have loads of apps like its possible on the watch, i can imagine 4 icons would be too little.. There is room for improvement, but saying it directly sucks - i dont agree with that...

I have only used siri for message dictation, and simple stuff like the siri help explains. Which features are missing from it?

Its funny about how the anticipation of the watch was so high that anyone who even hinted about any sort of negativity was lambasted, now its accepted and expected to hate the watch.

I for one am coming around to it, but all int all, I think we need an OS that allows the apps to actually run on the OS, and not on the phone. I agree with the others the apps being shown don't exactly work as shown, i.e., running and seeing your route. You need your iPhone to run with, if you want to use the GPS to track your path.

Just because the Apple Watch may become popular in the future does not mean the Apple Watch has no terrible flaws right now.

It's also funny how people said Apple would never release a watch without at least 2 day battery life, wouldn't be a brick when not tethered, and would sell like hotcakes because it'd change everyone's life like the iPhone :p It did sell better than other smartwatches, but it's barely a lifechanger.

Watch has no "flaws". It does what it does, better than what Apple advertises. I own one and it's a fantastic product, with huge room for growth.

Read the MR comments on the 2001 iPod introduction for reference. History seems to teach nothing sometimes.

Good song though for all three, still not sure about the capabilities.
Like shazam, does it work if you don't have an iphone with you ?

I haven't been able to use Shazam once since getting my watch, it doesn't load and when its scanning the song the song will finish before it matches it.

Although I can imagine this being fixed in the Fall with 2.0

I was really interested in the  watch until I saw it and it is a nice looking watch that has some (read some) features that may make my life a little better. I have a Fitbit surge which is great for working out and decent for smarthphone functionality. The  watch has better notification/smart watch features but its inferior working out features.

You have a edition, great for you , the other Apple products not good enough to make it into your Sig? Looks kinda weird just showing the edition, as it needs at least an iPhone to go with it....

Haha, just what I was thinking too!

It's funny, the kind of person I expect that would buy an edition is exactly the kind of person I would also expect to advertise it on their avatar and signature...

And MR forumers still find ways to complain. :p

Well, it just so happens not every one has a mad love affair with this marginally useful gadget like you do, and can look at it with a more critical eye.
I'm sure the only thing that would make you happy is if everyone here was fawning over the the Apple Watch and all the ads and everything else Apple does.

And the MR Apple sycophants still find ways to make a turd look like gold bullion. (That is these ads, not the AW) :D

Apple is made up of people, who like all other people are imperfect. Lately Apple's blinders have gotten so large they can't even see right in front of them. So, yes, they need a bit of constructive criticism from the fanbase.

These ads do not convey any useful information about the AW or why one would want to get one. It shows the AW has apps! But the problem selling the AW to a generation that has never worn a watch is that its a foreign concept to them and they need to be educated how wearing a watch is better than just carrying a phone around.

These ads, and no others I've seen accomplish that task. So Apple is left with early adopters and "I'll buy anything with an Apple logo" customers to sell to. But they already been sold. Time for the next phase. There is a public out there that needs to be educated on AW and Apple is going around, like many on this board, with the idea that it has an Apple logo on it so people will be automatically transfixed by it. But that isn't going to happen w/ AW because it's a watch and also because it's not immediately intuitive to use.

Why oh why is Apple having so much trouble with Watch advertising? All ads have been huge failures. This is not like Apple. Apple has really been flopping and flailing recently. Could it be that they think they could do it all themselves in-house?

It's really simple. Show examples where people uniquely need the watch. Not people lounging around using it in an instance that any other gadget would be a better. Show people the unique instances where they would benefit from a hands free device. It's easy. This gadget is not that hard to sell.

Uses still unknown. I think that will change with real apps, and someday, GPS. These ads are almost an admission by Apple that they serve no purpose.

I'm amazed people think the world will stay the same and nothing will change. They can't think outside the box and imagine a BETTER world with watch-type devices.

For example, you're checking into a hotel. They ask you to touch your watch to a device which then puts your room key on your watch. Now just going up to the door and touching your watch opens the door. Why is this so much better than a phone? Well, 95% of the time when you go back to your hotel room, you have something in your hands - luggage, things you bought, food, drinks....

You're a football team. All the offensive players wear watches for the snap count. When it's time to snap, all the watches vibrate. False starts lessened. Especially good for deaf players and teams (which right now use drummers and drum beats)

There are countless examples. These can't be done on the watch now, but will be soon. If I had all day, I could write hundreds of scenarios. I'm a software developer, and I'm currently developing watch apps for my company which will be very unique. I couldn't create them with Watch OS 1, but with Watch OS 2, these are now possible.

I swear I felt a "tap" coach. That is not going to happen...
