Again this "no purpose" nonsense?

From quickly locating the lost iPhone in the house to replying to messages and taking calls on the beach with the phone tucked away in the backpack, to a very accurate workout monitoring, to controlling Apple TV and bluetooth speakers volume, the Watch has RIGHT NOW so many unique real-life use cases it's hard to mention all.

Not to mention the future uses: Apple Pay will become the killer app for the device, and Watch OS 2.0 will bring many more potentially killer applications.

It's hard to believe people can't see these obvious use cases and future developement paths.

I'm amazed people think the world will stay the same and nothing will change. They can't think outside the box and imagine a BETTER world with watch-type devices.

Of course they can't. Consumers, like in every other facet of life, need to be led. Very few people have the creativity to "think outside the box." It's why marketing exists; to plant ideas in people's heads.

You gave some concrete examples of when the AW is superior to using a phone. But Apple doesn't make that ad, they make the drivel we see at the top of this thread. Apple has yet to really explain the AW to a confused public in the way they did with the iPhone when it came out <YouTube Ad Reel>

Every AW ad I've seen either looks like background video at a dance club or a subliminal ad parody. That's not going to sell AW. Apple needs an ad to give consumers an "ah ha" moment because, no, they don't understand why it can be more convenient than pulling out a phone. They only see is as another device that duplicates what they already have -- a wrong assumption, but that's the one they have now and it's Apple's burden to un do that. No AW ad I've seen yet does.

Frankly I chalk this up to Apple's arrogant and wrongheaded decision to take adverting in-house. It's a good thing to let an unbiased 3rd party help sell your product. Sometimes I think Tim Cook is more in love with himself than Steve Jobs ever admired himself.

The realistic versions of those ads should last around 5 times longer and look more like:

The real test is when my wife walked past the tv when a commercial is on.

If she is interested she stops and pays attention.

If she is not interested she continues to walk on by.

apple watch commercial comes on - she walks by without stopping, looks over at me, shrugs her shoulders and says, "what's the point"?

Not good for the apple watch.

Still, for tourist travel, the current Apple Watch is really useful. I could wear a sweater or long sleeve shirt to hide the fact I was wearing anything of value (especially at night), and let the watch tap on my wrist to give my walking directions all over cities in Europe this summer.

... which is connected to Apple Maps, which walked me about 2km in the wrong direction in a well-known European city last fall. It doesn't do too well in American cities, either.

Glad you said this, because it's exactly what I thought as I saw this post!

I really *want* to like my Apple Watch, and IMO, it does the basics well. I like the face I've got selected, and the way it shows me my next calendar appointment at a glance is pretty useful. But the apps are a JOKE.

EG. I have the Fidelity app to track my IRA investment, but the Apple Watch app for it constantly freezes up. You tap to look at the next screen of data, and typically, you get a partially cut-off list of stocks that you should be able to scroll through -- but it hangs. Same experience using my EcoBee app for the watch. It might properly display the temperature of 1 of my 2 smart thermostats, but tapping to view the other one usually results in a crash.

to bad none of those apps work the way they should. apple watch apps as they are now, really suck.

And the MR Apple sycophants still find ways to make a turd look like gold bullion. (That is these ads, not the AW) :D

Apple is made up of people, who like all other people are imperfect. Lately Apple's blinders have gotten so large they can't even see right in front of them. So, yes, they need a bit of constructive criticism from the fanbase.

These ads do not convey any useful information about the AW or why one would want to get one. It shows the AW has apps! But the problem selling the AW to a generation that has never worn a watch is that its a foreign concept to them and they need to be educated how wearing a watch is better than just carrying a phone around.

These ads, and no others I've seen accomplish that task. So Apple is left with early adopters and "I'll buy anything with an Apple logo" customers to sell to. But they already been sold. Time for the next phase. There is a public out there that needs to be educated on AW and Apple is going around, like many on this board, with the idea that it has an Apple logo on it so people will be automatically transfixed by it. But that isn't going to happen w/ AW because it's a watch and also because it's not immediately intuitive to use.

The watch... has no purpose.

Wow it shows graphs. And numbers! And everything is so funky. I wonder what these apple commercials would be without their music. Quite boring actually.

I know I have OCD, but I personally find it weird for Apple to showcase 3rd party apps in the videos, then only show 1st party apps on the watch face once it zooms out at the end of the video.

If you didn't want to, or couldn't, respond why make the effort?

It's so much worse than being "weird." Forget about showing Apple apps on the watch face... it's Apple's product. But unlike all those 3rd party apps, the AW owner can't uninstall the Apple apps that might not fit the user's needs or desires, esp. when some of those apps, like stocks and weather are not top of the class. Why Apple thinks its still 2007 in that regard I don't know.

Watch has no "flaws". It does what it does, better than what Apple advertises. I own one and it's a fantastic product, with huge room for growth.

Read the MR comments on the 2001 iPod introduction for reference. History seems to teach nothing sometimes.
I used to own one and it had flaws. Like a short battery life, draining your phone battery quite quicker, and terrible loading times for third party apps.
So no, Apple just advertised the Watch running third party apps working flawlessly quickly, when in real life they often take longer than any of these ads to even launch. I call that a flaw.

Also, I know the iPod thread. And it doesn't change anything to the fact that complaints at this point are justified, and won't change even if the Apple Watch 2, 3 or 4 become worldwide success.

These ads really don't tell me how the Apple Watch is going to change my life or why I need it if I already have an iPhone.

Wearing a watch daily is out of style for most under 35. Apple has to find a way to get all of those people wearing watches again. Then if you start looking at pricing with a nice band included how is Apple going to get those people to keep upgrading the watch each time a new version is released?

Apple is going to sell some watches and will likely be the best selling smartwatch, but for the people who think this product will sell at iPhone levels or keep growing sales at high rates year after year you might be disappointed.

isn't that par for the course with all phones? You cannot delete stock apps on android without root or hiding them.

Not if you have style :p

MILLIONS of people wear watches. At least half of the people I see every day wear watches. It's not something that 'nobody' does.

I think for teenagers, there is no real reason for watches today. It's only there for the time, and they're all carrying around cell phones that they can use for that.

But when SMART watches offer more features, and replace cell phone functionality, you'll see people ditching their cell phones very quickly. People carrying cell phones around in the United States is a fad. It's only been going on since about 2009. Only 6 years. In another 10 years, it will be rare to see someone with a cell phone. We'll laugh at old movies with people pulling cell phones out of their pockets.

Disagree completely. Theres a reason why the iphone 6 and 6+ flew off the shelves, because people want a BIGGER screen with them thats actually readable/usable.

A watch with its tiny screen, for that reason alone, is destined to be a 'nitch' product.

Music in Apple ads has really changed after Dr. Dre joined the company. It's often less emotional and more and more hip hop.
huh? did you not see last weeks set of ads or are you selectively watching ads to feed yours opinion which is wrong. Guess you forgot able all the dance hip hop, pop, get up and move ads Apple had prior to Dr Dre during the iPod era. The ads are still the say in line with Apple.
