Apple care 'jack' about this. Waiting for iPhone 8 where I suspect they'll have to reintroduce the headphone jack following declining sales. I'd like to charge my phone and listen to music without adapters thanks.
Similar to complaints made when they got rid of floppy disks and cd/DVDs reader/recorders. Apple refuses to spend fortunes supporting old legacy technologies like Microsoft does.

Does anyone know if this live stream will be viewable in Windows 10 on a PC using the EDGE browser, like a few recent Apple events have been?

Yep: http://www.apple.com/apple-events/september-2016/

"Requirements: Live streaming uses Apple’s HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) technology. HLS requires an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with Safari on iOS 7.0 or later, a Mac with Safari 6.0.5 or later on OS X v10.8.5 or later, or a PC with Microsoft Edge on Windows 10. Streaming via Apple TV requires an Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) with software 6.2 or later or an Apple TV (4th generation)."

I hope they explain their reasoning in an obvious enough way that it is clear why the pros outweigh the cons for most people.

They will definitely touch on the new features, but Apple won't elaborate on the deleted 3.5 Jack. They will focus on the Bluetooth aspect and other features, similar to the 3D Touch.

I just think they have to explain the reasoning. its a huge change

You really think Apple will drop the i next year. I think 'iPhone' is too iconic of a name for Apple to drop (unlike 'Air' for example), but I could be wrong. Then again, if you think about it, maybe changing the name would be a good idea to "refresh" the brand?

You are most likely correct. I just do not see a iPhone 12. I could see something like ApplePhone "Insert word here." ApplePhone Cloud, ApplePhone Structure, ApplePhone Fluid, etc....... :apple:

It'll probably go somehow like that. Back in the Palm device days, there was a major bitch fest constantly during a new product announcement when they had an audio jack with a 2.5-mm connector instead of the more common 3.5-mm connector. One of the justifications given was that the 3.5-mm connector took up too much space in product design. The real reason was Palm wanted to see higher margin headsets. Instead it created a rush in the sales of 2.5-mm to 3.5-mm audio jack converters.

I remember that dust-up from back in the Palm days (I / we might be showing our age here). Headset pricing will most likely be headed upwards with Lightning and USB C connections paving the way for "hopefully" high quality DACs/AMPs in the headphones instead of relying on what's in the phone. The market will decide whether lightning or USB C wins (if there is a clear winner). The analog 3.5mm jack requires additional space and shielding from interference among other drawbacks so I don't believe that we'll be lamenting its demise a couple of years from now. Having said that, I totally understand the frustration from folks that have purchased high quality headphones with the 3.5mm plug but as Bob said "the times, they are a changin'".

:)

You guys really think it's going to make that big of a difference. Spoiler: it's not. Let it go.

Nah, won't be in this keynote. I'd put money on it. Likely October/November in tandem with iPad update. Not to crush your spirits, but you'll just be disappointed waiting for something that won't be presented.
Too bad, I'll lower my enthusiasm then. i've been waiting for this too long.

What are all the people doing on the ground. Looks like a zombie attack to me. :D:cool::p

Not sure I want to walk through all those undead bodies to the event. Lol.

I work across the street from the auditorium; those zombies are homeless folk. Blame the megalomanic mayor, I say.

I know I won't be up grading without a headphone jack. We need 3 new phones in the family so Apple will still get our money it will just be for the SE model or 6s. Maybe Apple is doing me a favor, saving me some $$$.

Over the weekend, Apple began decorating the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, which is where its "See You on the 7th" keynote will be held on Wednesday. Crews have put up window decorations and flags with Apple logos, plus other black-with-colored-dots themed banners and signage.

At the event, Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, second-generation Apple Watch, and refreshed Beats products. Apple should also provide final release dates for iOS 10, macOS Sierra, tvOS 10, and watchOS 3, and it may have other product and service updates to announce.

Apple will provide a live stream of the September 7 keynote on the Apple TV and on iOS and Mac devices through its website. MacRumors will also provide live coverage of the event for those unable to watch, both on MacRumors.com and through our @MacRumorsLive account on Twitter.

they're holding a key event at the Billy Graham Auditorium ;)

Even though the march keynote was awful, I still look forward to keynotes...

The March Keynote was very mundane indeed. But also, it was a smaller event with a smaller audience. The Fall Keynotes for Apple are their true 'Superbowl' if you will.

Really, I get the floppy, unreliable but I would suggest that the CD was to save money and push people to download music from iTunes not to mention making the record executives feel better about stopping rip, mix, burn.

Well, it all depends on sales. If sales drop 30% Apple will bring it back. Apple is about making money, it is company with share holders. It may differentiate phones, with and without. The ridiculously large 5.5 phablet without because it is ungainly big and combersome and keeping it out of the way is better and the 4.5 with as it at least manageable in the hand. I just hope the SE stays around with the jack so our family can stay with the best platform.

Apple doesn't revolve around you.

Not to be semantic here, but a business that does not revolve around its customers will cease to be in business after awhile -- when it finds it has none anymore.

Take the Macintosh hardware lineup. If it wasn't for OSX, would people have any reason to buy a designer-priced piece of 2-3 years old hardware specs? I'll say that Apple hardware is nice, but it's not that much better than some of the more upscale competitors. Apple continues to sell Macs now because they have an artificial monopoly.

Well, we know one thing for sure, the entire executive team already have their iPhone 7 already, along with Craig.

I'm curious how they're going to fill 7000 seats. In the past they did it when they launched the Watch and the new Apple TV (built those living rooms to show off how the Apple TV worked), and at WWDC they accommodate thousands of developers.

But besides the usual tech media & reporters, I wonder who will fill this auditorium?

Thanks for that. Very much appreciated. I'll be watching (as long as the stream holds up - Fingers crossed) :)
