A future dominated and controlled by one big evil corporation.

Steve Jobs said this once:

Replace IBM with Apple and those with open eyes will see that it's not too far off from the truth.
Thanks man for backing me up. It seems that people have really short memories or they are too much in love with Apple the company and not Apple products.

Absolutely
It’s a group of people that generally is pretty reticent to openly criticize Apple

Yet Apple, with their behaviors, is unifying them all in opposition to Apple itself.
It’s really disheartening to see Apple doing this.

The Apps are more effective, they require much less marketing, There are many that are dependent on Apple technology. They are far more successful with Apple than without. They just want it for free.
Apple is far more successful with app developers than without .
Windows phone failed in large part to not having any developers willing to build apps for it.

As a developer, I don't think it's unreasonable to request different binaries if they behave differently.

But what I'm surprised that this article doesn't mention that apparently Apple still wants developers that charge outside of the App Store to pay 27%... wasn't the case?? If so it's still really an overreach.

What's an "android store"?
I don't know what the other poster was referring to, but a store that sells Android apps in some sort of "compatibility-mode" on iOS would suck to me. I appreciate native UIs.

What does this even mean?

The article is about Apple taking a 30% cut and preventing third-party payment methods. You can argue whether this is fair or not, but how does it improve the quality of apps? Maybe the app review process does (though there are still plenty of scams and clones), but this payment stuff is clearly just about profits.

I'm convinced that nobody on here has actually used Android or Google Play. The app store experience for end users is practically identical...
It's not even about the 15-30% cut. It's simply about allowing third-party payments on Dutch dating apps.

Why do dating services even need apps, they could run their services through websites and keep 100% of the profit from any fees they charge. 100% is more than 70%.

I’d guess it’s to offers features unavailable to web sites, like push notifications.

Apple's "head of compliance" is to regulators what HR is to employees.

Hint: they're not actually on your side.

For end users... sure. But how is Google Play for developers?

How does Match Group feel about the Google Play Store?

Does Google allow them to use 3rd party payment processors?

But let's be honest... this was never really about payment processors. It's about the commission.

Does Google charge 30% commission to developers making over $1,000,000 a year? Yes they do. So there's really no difference there. Google charges the same commission as Apple.

The only saving grace for Android developers is the ability to use 3rd party app stores, payments, or sideloading.

So... does Match Group pay Google's 30% commission and keep all transactions inside the Google Play Store? Or do they point their customers to those other alternatives to avoid the fees?

I understand that Match Group hates Apple's policies. But it would be hypocritical if they don't complain about the exact same thing on Android.

They promised to keep innovating and bring in new ideas. But now they are too busy trampling over others to milk dry their large cash cow that is their loyal user base.

1. No USB C on iPhones.
What is the benefit of this
2. No Pro apps on iPad Pro.
Seems like more of a developer issue.
3. Locked down App Installation even in 2022. Which makes no sense.
Makes plenty of sense. This is Steve’s model. Why should Tim open it up?
4. Chargers no longer ship with the device.
With over 1 billion devices, should apple ship hundreds of millions to satisfy those who want a new cable.
5. Earpods no longer ship with the device.
Similar to above.
6. No compensation for that or price drop for missing accessories.
Because the prices of components increased and apple held the line even though it may have had a gross margin drop?
If its really for the environment, why do they sell the charger separately?
So apple does t have to produce undress of millions?
Why not just allow anyone to get it for the same price if they need it. Or give us a Apple Store voucher to buy it if we need.
Apple does t want to create a secondary market.
Apple is really gone too far with this.
No they haven’t.

When an individual posts to the classifieds, the news paper gets 100% of the fee.

The newspaper gets 100% of the ad placement fee which is essentially the same as Apple getting 100% of the app account fee that allows apps to be posted.

A difference is that the newspaper doesn't get any additional revenue from sale/transaction activities resulting from the newspaper ad where Apple potentially does with an app.

Why is it an overreach? Developers are free to use outside payment methods. The Netherlands didn’t say developers can steal. Honestly, Apple should be charging more than 30% to cover the increased overhead.

And it wasn't just an Ad. Steve was fully aware of the Orwellian future. From his philosophy all they way down to how he see things. He is very much a libertarian.

Tim Cook, not so much. You can tell by his talks and his philosophy.
Apple's control-freak culture comes directly from Jobs himself. He was not a libertarian when it came to Apple's products at all (he didn't even want an app store). Maybe a libertarian when it came to paying taxes.

It is clear that regulators and governments want to control the power that Apple currently has, but they have no idea how to do it. If Apple is not complying with the regulation they have to be clearer on this. Usually regulation comes with burden for everybody involved. But if the reality is that they didn't like that they still charge 27%, and IMO it seems that way. That is what the regulation should have consider. But part of the problem comes with the characterization that the developers made telling that the 30% its payment processing fee.

Frustrating to see Apple continue to destroy their reputation among developers for short-term profits. Even from a purely business perspective, this can't be a good strategy.

I'm not sure how any small devs could be unhappy with Apple. Billion dollar app companies want another billion so I can at least see where the greedy tools are coming from but what more could small devs want? Less than 15%? Free? I don't think that small devs truly think everything should be free. However they see these big app companies making billions and they are saying Apple is over charging so I think they jump on the band wagon, but I'm afraid that shortsightedness is going to cost them in the long run.

1. Why?
2. Really?
3. As it should be
4. As with many other if not all other phones and devices
5. See #4
6. You have a choice not to buy an Apple product, a voucher, really?

Apple keeps going in the right directions, (See their stock price)

Explain? Apple is not destroying anything. They will keep making Apps as they all know this is the best market, no one should expect things for free, no one.

Apple is slowing becoming the very thing it promised to fight.

First it said all this protection is for consumer privacy and now that its pretty clear its for profits, apple is behaving like a Rogue tyrant that is poking elected democratic governments.

Why do they all go this way? First Google, then Lone Musk and now even Tim Apple.
You do realize Apple is a for profit company, correct?
