It is the inevitable result of third-party app stores. A significant number of developers will choose cross-platform UIs when given the choice. Is anyone even asking for that, though?

In 1984, there was little competition to IBM and their computers. In 1984 there was little competition to ibm. In 2022 there is plenty of competition to Apple. Apple in 2022 according to global market share is a minority.
Android and all of its app stores are a decent competitor to Apple. I wouldn't call that zero.In 1984, there was little competition to IBM and their computers.
In 2022, there is zero competition to Apple and their App Store and control/restrictions over developers.
It took a lawsuit to force Apple to let developers tell users about purchase options available outside of Apple's App Store.

Apple will finally let devs tell users about non-App Store purchase options
Proposed settlement would make it a bit easier to avoid Apple App Store commission.arstechnica.com
Apple has a minority market share. There's plenty of competition for Apple. In 2022, there is zero competition to Apple and their App Store and control/restrictions over developers... not to mention their control over/restriction of what the own can do with the iDevice that s/he paid for.
Cross-platform UI is very different to an "android store". There are apps in the App Store right now use cross platforms UIs, and apps distributed via the web on MacOS use native UIs. You're trying to make a link where one does not exist. It is the inevitable result of third-party app stores. A significant number of developers will choose cross-platform UIs when given the choice.
It was an example of developers choosing the easier path over the better path.Cross-platform UI is very different to an "android store". Sure. It’s not really related to the original point though, is it?It was an example of developers choosing the easier path over the better path.
Yes. My original point was that some developers will choose to repackage an Android app in there was an option to have it run in "compatibility-mode" on an iPhone.Sure. It’s not really related to the original point though, is it?
You didn’t say “Simon says” or compliment me on my invisible monkey friend!Anyone that has ever given an irrationally angry customer what they asked for can feel for Apple right now.
So was Exxon. Businesses exist for humans and not the other way round. You do realize Apple is a for profit company, correct?
This is actually a case of a Billion dollar corporation trying to take power from indie developers by attacking a trillion-dollar company. They want to control billing because if the Netherlands wanted to truly ensure fair commerce they would allow anyone to sell IAP inside any app. Why should I have to buy the brand name DLC when some third-party developer could offer an equivalent for Binder Gold + at 1/3rd the price? Why should the complaints of "a few iOS devs on Twitter" be considered representative on a larger trend?
This case is about billion dollar corporations trying to take power from a trillion dollar corporation. Not about small indie developers.
I don't get the reference. I'm old and or obtuse. You didn’t say “Simon says” or compliment me on my invisible monkey friend!
@WiseAJ beat me too it. Literally dozens of manufacturers, but the apple iOS store apple is the most popular. Not to mention console makers, tv manufacturers etcIn 1984, there was little competition to IBM and their computers.

well because they have no time to teach cheating end users how to clear their cookies, cache and browsing historyWhy do dating services even need apps, they could run their services through websites and keep 100% of the profit from any fees they charge. 100% is more than 70%.
I would say he was more of an old-school hippie that believed the government wasn’t to be trusted very far. But that is pretty much a new-school libertarian….And it wasn't just an Ad. Steve was fully aware of the Orwellian future. From his philosophy all they way down to how he see things. He is very much a libertarian.
Tim Cook, not so much. You can tell by his talks and his philosophy.
Android and all of its app stores are a decent competitor to Apple. I wouldn't call that zero.
What’s me? I’m married, I don’t need to meet people on a dating app, but judging people for how they set up a date is weird and stupid and archaic. So its you?
The App Store is just a feature of iOS devices. As you point out, Apple is in competition with other device manufactures. The App Store mentioned are not in competition. The devices might be. I mean how can say a Store in NYC be in direct competition with one in Denver. Just because both entities are Stores it is not a sufficient condition to be in competition.
This is nothing but farcical argument.
Cheers.

That exact attitude killed Intel and many others before that.A few devs out of how many are unhappy? Maybe they all are unhappy and should just leave the apple platform and see if the grass is greener.
Devs need to understand how good the iOS app store is compared to the play store. There will always be unhappy devs…such as epic. Imo, businesses can’t afford to cater to the minority, such as epic… apple kicked their butt out of the App Store. That exact attitude killed Intel and many others before that.
Third party Developers are the unknown, backstage 50% of the contributors that make Apple ecosystem a magical place.
This! Intel went bankrupt and no longer has influence in the market because... they didn't give in to... um... the whims of... hmmm... third-party chip developers? That exact attitude killed Intel and many others before that.
