Rumor has it that they are going back to a retro power switch as well.

I thought this design was much better for ergonomic purposes. But I like yours too, LOL.

I was wondering how apple was going to have the restart process function without having buttons that could function before the operating system was loaded.

At least this prevents button-gate. I hope.

iPhone 14 Pros could not activate due to lack of simcards/connectivity. This prevents iPhone 15 from not turning on when unboxed.

Personally, I don't come on this site for MacRumors, and I mostly ignore all rumors articles. Rumors are useless to me because they are too unreliable to affect my plans or wants or emotions. I never make decisions based on rumors and I never get excited over rumors. They are about things pretty far in the future, and then they are changed or are proven wrong when the time comes. I come here for MacFacts, and there are plenty of articles of facts on here this site, despite the name.

I don't understand what the advantage of solid state buttons would be. How is this going to be marketed to make it sound like a "gotta have" feature?

i wish apple would take notes from the iphone SE 3rd gen in fact i wish apple would go back to the iphone 3rd gen look may be a size bump to the screen size 5.5 but other then that the size and feel of the iphone SE 3rd gen is grate not to big nore too small and still have touch ID

OMG, let me be outraged about Apple "delaying" something they never promised!
I can add this to my further outrage that the Mac Pro is "delayed" based on some tenuous chain of reasoning that has something to do with an Apple monitor (also never announced) being "delayed".

And don't forget the Mac Unicorn that I invented yesterday and have now discovered is indefinitely "delayed".

"delay", "delay", "delay" –- it's a wonder anything ever gets shipped according to rumor land.

Look, there's a place for rumors grounded in reality. But when the rumor chain gets to "rumors of delay in a rumored product" the connection to reality is so tenuous that the entire enterprise is a waste of everyone's time!

Seems like they were recently spinning
the ‘what will we do next’ wheel and it landed on buttons but now they can’t even figure it out in short order.

Apple are not making major design decisions 5 months before shipping. If the solid state buttons are not there, they were never planned to be there when the rumors started circulating.
This is not exactly "making" a major design decision, it's cancelling a feature. Of course they're prepared to pull any feature during their engineering, design, and production verification phases. That's why these phases exist after all and why they have established backup designs ready.

It doesn't sound like this was a planned decision, which indeed wouldn't happen this late.

The rumors are all designed to throw people off. In reality, they'll get rid of ALL the buttons and you'll use only Siri voice commands to control the whole phone! :p
Great. Now I can say Hey Siri to turn on the phone since it is never truly shut off anyways.
