Apple Delays Apple Intelligence Siri Features

I am so glad I did not buy the 16. I am on a 14 and I was really thinking about it, but since Apple AI was going to be slow rolled I said "Ok I will wait for the 17". But now I am thinking maybe wait for the 18. All depends on what state Apple AI is in by 2026. I am leery that Apple will say, well Apple AI is ready but it won't run fully unless you have an iPhone 18 because we added this and that and it requires our "new" chip to work.
Yeah you made the right choice. My guess it’s that apple will introduce a smarter Siri but cannot perform actions… kinda like a ChatGPT you can ask him anything and will respond but cannot check in your apps.

And yet Tim is still there. The successes outnumber the blunders. As SJ knows very well.

it’s not looking good though

ChatGPT has some suggestions for an external replacement

There’s no official word on external candidates, but if Apple were to go outside the company, a few names could make sense based on their experience in tech, leadership, and alignment with Apple’s culture. Some potential outsiders that have been speculated about in the past include:

Potential External Candidates

• Satya Nadella (Microsoft CEO) – Unlikely, since he’s deeply tied to Microsoft, but he transformed the company into a cloud powerhouse and could theoretically be a strong choice if Apple ever wanted a major strategic shift.

• Elon Musk (Tesla CEO) – Extremely unlikely, but some have speculated about his interest in Apple (or vice versa) due to his expertise in AI and hardware. However, his unpredictable leadership style doesn’t align with Apple’s corporate culture.

• Marissa Mayer (Former Yahoo CEO & ex-Google exec) – She has strong tech experience and was once a rising star at Google, but her tenure at Yahoo was mixed.

• Sundar Pichai (Google CEO) – Another long shot, but he has a deep understanding of software, AI, and services, all of which are crucial to Apple’s future.

• Sheryl Sandberg (Former Meta COO) – Strong business and operational experience, but Apple and Meta have had major philosophical differences, especially on privacy.

Wildcard Picks

• Jony Ive (Former Apple Design Chief) – Left Apple to start his own design firm but still consults for them. If Apple wanted a leader with deep brand understanding, he could be a left-field choice.

• Sam Altman (OpenAI CEO) – Given Apple’s increasing AI focus, someone with deep knowledge of AI like Altman could be a surprise pick if they wanted to shake things up.

That said, Apple historically promotes from within, so an external hire would be a huge departure from tradition. Jeff Williams (COO) remains the frontrunner if Tim Cook steps down in the next few years.

I don’t think Elon,Satya or Sam Altman would be interested but Marissa Mayer might be convinced to step in and fix things, she has AI experience!

Am I the only one that doesn’t care about AI? Whether it’s on Android or computers… what is the point of AI? To ask it to do tasks when I can do it myself?

It’s to help you for whatever you cannot do. So I use it for example to ask some questions I don’t know the answers.

Embarrassing. They saw the Alexa+ demo and were like "oh sh** we're nowhere close". What a monumental miss for them as a company - and totally unnecessary.
Someone please explain why we don’t even have Siri without internet on the HomePod like we have it on iPhone… it’s not useless it can program alarms, tell the hour…

Siri, as you're driving: "Here's the results I found on the internet for 'what time does Costco close."

Or worse, "you'll need to unlock your phone to use Siri" defeating its purpose.

At this point, the iPhone is completely unacceptable as a product

I’m in the exact same boat

I’m not arguing here, what type of questions?

I usually ask Siri a question about something I don’t know about and I get a decent ballpark answer. It’s not perfect but it does the job in a pinch.

Is AI supposed to give an exact perfect answer? Or is it at the mercy of all the data it has been scraping (including false data and anecdotes)
