I’m not arguing here, what type of questions?

I usually ask Siri a question about something I don’t know about and I get a decent ballpark answer. It’s not perfect but it does the job in a pinch.

Is AI supposed to give an exact perfect answer? Or is it at the mercy of all the data it has been scraping (including false data and anecdotes)

Why don't you ask Siri then? Or go and Google it?

Tim Cook has no vision and no taste. Apple has been playing catch up with their software for years, and they're still behind. Maybe it's time to give Hair Force One AND Tim Cook their walking papers.

Obviously, Forstall was not the issue...
He would have been a marvelous CEO and had a similar set of competencies to Jobs. What happened to him was a crime and now those karmic chickens are coming home to roost.

This is really starting to feel like Apple's "Blackberry" moment. Dominated the market for a number of years and then just couldn't keep up with new innovations. They'd better wake up or they're going to suffer the same fate.

Genuinely sad to witness failure after failure in execution by Apple. We didn't know it at the time, but Apple Park was built upon a field of laurels.

""Siri helps our users find what they need and get things done quickly, and in just the past six months, we've made Siri more conversational, introduced new features like type to Siri and product knowledge, and added an integration with ChatGPT." such a revolution! Six months to add a product info database (no AI there, it could have been done since day 1 in 2011), the "more conversational" Siri that had already been introduced a few years ago without concrete change... and ChatGPT integration... so just using OpenAI api's. WOW! So much innovation!

This has been a colossal miss by Tim and Apple, it's not last but best, it's last and last so far

Total matter of speculation here, but I think Steve's brain would have been on fire learning about the modern take on AI, the question of computers just doing one thing at a time instead of us just telling them to do something and they go off and do all the steps for it has come up many times during his career even that I can think of, it's been on his mind, and the modern method allows that. I think he would have seen a hard pivot in software and made a much harder pivot towards it.

Tim is the kind of guy to go, oh, that's not so big right now, maybe we'll do a bit of playing around in it, but he didn't go as big, as fast as needed, and now they're years behind with ACDC (their take on Nvidia H200s) not even scaling till 2026+ which makes the word of a conversational Siri not happening till 2027 now with iOS20 make sense. And imagine how bad it would be if even ACDC remains far behind Nvidia by 2027, and they have a lot less to train actual LLM Siri in iOS20 on even still....
Tim clearly does not care about these kind of things, and they are getting old with Craig so...

I'd wager the car was, financially speaking, the absolute biggest miss. And it should have been the impetus for the shareholders showing Tim the door.

Truly, this doesn't get talked about enough. Apple pissed away billions of dollars on a doomed project for years, not to mention the non-monetary costs of doing so. Makes you wonder where they would be if all those people and resources working on Project Titan were focused on Mac/iPhone software and AI the whole time instead.

Vision Pro is also a miss
As someone with a lab of over a dozen them, I agree. But it didn't cost Apple 10BN and a decade. It should have been the end of Cook. But the AVP is a perfect encapsulation of everything wrong with modern Apple: gorgeous hardware let down by software and a contentious developer story that's largely the end result of Apple hubris.

it’s not looking good though

ChatGPT has some suggestions for an external replacement

I don’t think Elon,Satya or Sam Altman would be interested but Marissa Mayer might be convinced to step in and fix things, she has AI experience!
Cool. You have already used ChatGPT to succession plan apples future. The board can now retire. /s

Very disappointing to hear this. Hopefully it will be available on day 1 with iOS 20 atleast and not have to wait another 6 months. Waiting to see what improvements iOS 19 will bring.

Plan for the worst, expect the best. This is modern Apple after all

Forstall wouldn’t be able to lead Apple, imo. And your opinion of Tim is incorrect and also Apple software, imo. But to each their own and your mileage will vary.

No kidding. I have parents who upgraded to the iPhone 16 specifically because "Siri is supposed to be better on the new iPhone!". When in reality, they should have just held onto their iPhone 13s.
That's partially on you for not steering them away. You're on this forum you know better (or ought to)
