It has taken Apple almost a decade to get the Apple Watch ⌚️ right where it needs to be technology wise. The series 8, is 8 years in and now has a Ultra model. I feel this AR/VR headset will go through the same 8 year phase before it’s affordable enough for the average consumer. Kudos to Apple though for having a reputation of being a game changer and I believe they will do it with this big AR/VR project

It is only a big deal if they end up not releasing the first dev kit also at WWDC. My thought is originally they wanted to preview it earlier, but then it would be a couple months for the dev kit to be released at WWDC along with many dev presentations that usually happen there.

Funny how the rumor mill keeps getting the date wrong, and then blaming Apple for “delays” rather than admitting they were wrong and saying they have an updated rumor.
Translation. "I was wrong so I'm going to said that Apple is delaying release".
Yup, and we know that because there been zero times when Apple themselves have publicly announced a product launch timeframe in advance and then missed it.

I think they will do a surprise “one more thing” announcement at the Spring event and then have Developer Kits ready by WWDC and then possibly release late 2023 or early 2024. Apple is not in a rush to get this product out to the masses with a $3,000 price tag they know consumers won’t go for that price. Apple want the developers and professional market to be the guinea pigs and test out and work out all the bugs

I am a total machead but I have zero interest in VR headgear of any type, especially for $3k. I can’t be the only one who feels this way…

Apple is now planning to introduce its AR/VR headset in June instead of April, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, with the debut of the device pushed back two months. It is expected to see an unveiling at the Worldwide Developers Conference.

Apple initially planned to reveal the AR/VR headset at an April event, but it is no longer going to be able to make that timeline and decided to delay it earlier this month. After continued product testing, Apple determined that there are still hardware and software issues that need to be fixed.

This is not the first time that Apple has pushed back the launch timeline for the headset, with the company originally planning to introduce it in mid-2022. The timeline shifted to January 2023 later in 2022, then April 2023, and now June 2023. It is not clear what the delay means for a prospective spring event as Apple has few other major device updates in the works, but we could potentially see a 15-inch MacBook Air and the launch of the new Apple silicon Mac Pro.

After the headset is shown off at WWDC, Apple will continue to work on it before putting it up for sale later in the year. Gurman cautions that the timing of the launch could change again, but Apple wants to have it available for purchase by the end of 2023 if at all possible because it is the headline product of the year.

Apple is still working to fix problems with the hand and eye control functions. Rumors suggest that users will be able to control the headset with both eye movements and hand gestures, selecting an app with a glance and then activating it with a pinch gesture, for example.

When it launches, the headset is expected to be priced somewhere around $3,000, which will limit its appeal to consumers. Apple is already working on a second-generation device that will be more affordable. More information on Apple's AR/VR headset development can be found in our dedicated roundup.

Seems odd to lump this in with all their other OS products rather than give it a standalone event.

They’ll have to cover macOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, homeOS, and then unveil an entirely new OS along with its associated hardware. Seems like a lot to cram in a ~90 minute event.

Yeah, I really wish these "leakers" would stop using the word "delay". I see no proof of any delay. Is it possible Apple intended to release it in April and has pushed back the date? Maybe. But that isn't being shown here. Just say "AR/VR headset now predicted to be released at WWDC". Why would that be so hard?

1st gen
$3000

Already a hard pass for me
So I’m wondering if this will be another Apple Watch Ultra thing where everyone was dead set on $1000+, but it ended up being $799 and everyone was like “Whoah! So cheap!”

A part of me thinks there’s a strong chance that the headset is $1499.

I think they’d like to do this and the Mac Pro together. Mac Pro wouldn’t take long. You know what it is, now let’s show you how you can use it to…program for our new VR headset!

It will be interesting to see how it relates to all the other iOS based things. I agree it would be a lot to announce all the new OSes at once as well as that, but there’s bound to be some integration because that’s just how they do it.
