I have ZERO idea if this product will be useful or even that interesting for me.

We have EXTREMELY FEW facts about this product, including design, weight, cost, or what it's intended use cases are.

Maybe the product will be interesting/useful.

Maybe it won't.

Time will tell, and I am curious to find out.

But what about the mac pro? Will they debut both at WWDC? Maybe showing off how the new mac pro can be utilized to make content for the headset, much like they debuted the imac pro alongside some VR glasses back in the day?

That’s actually very good news. It means that they took time and care to perfect it, unlike companies that rush product out the door with half-baked features
I'm afraid with the current pace of technology, you can't just "take your time" and delay the release of a product for some many years.

It may mean that they took time and care to perfect the product, as you suggest, or it may mean that they are struggling to create a decent and compelling product after encountering many shortcomings and issues. I guess we will find out in a few months probably.

It won't be $3000.

Leak a fake number then release it for 1000 and it makes it seem like good value for money. They did the same with the iPad.

It’s really expensive, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this turns out to be successful. Apple has an ability to make expensive technology culturally relevant. You just have to look at the AirPods Max or the Pro Display XDR.

If this was only going to be a proof of concept device directed at developers it should have been out before now. I think Apple wants this to be their next big product. It has to go main stream.

The thing is, neither the AirPods Max nor the Pro Display XDR require other products to support it so those who need it can buy it and get to use the full potential of them right away.

A VR headset requires developers to actually develop software for it. Who is going to do that when it's a $3,000 device that will probably not sell in massive numbers right away? It's the hen and egg problem. Getting many sales for a $3,000 VR headset requires widespread software support. In order to get widespread software support, you need many sales.

They would have to start out with a more affordable product first in order to get sales going. Then they can push into the high end pricing segment with a 'Pro' or 'Max' product line

Rumors about Apple planning to sell a low cost version later will even hurt sales more because who's going to invest $3,000 into a 1st gen product when a cheaper 2nd gen is already on the horizon?

When Apple has ever released such a product? Why do you think they would do it now?
The 3000$ price tag does not make any sense. There is no go-to-the-market strategy for a product that expensive, even with Apple's logo on it.
Please. We're talking about a company that has no shame charging you $700 for wheels and and $1000 for a monitor stand.

I agree that $3000 seems excessive if they hope to move enough of these to attract a lot of developers but leave it to Apple to try to find a way to sell it to customers as a win. Something along the lines of "It's a monitor, It's a TV, It's a gaming console, It's a breakthrough internet communications device. - 4 devices in one for the low price of only $2899"..

Would it really surprise you?

When Apple first launched the iPhone, it didn’t have an App Store for multiple years. I am fully confident in Apple‘s ability to build software for the primary use cases of the product.

$700 wheels are an accessory to a $7000 computer and the $1000 stand is an accessory to a $5000 monitor. And both the Mac Pro and the XDR Pro Display are niche/statement products that account probably for 0,1% of Apple's revenue, if not less.

When the iPhone was released, Apple had to reduce the price by $200 because it was more expensive that most smartphones.

When the iPad was released, it was relatively cheap (cheaper than the iPhone and less than half the price of the cheapest Mac).

When the Apple Watch was released, it was priced quite low to be honest, a bit more expensive than Garmin and Fitbit top smartwatches.

If Apple's AR/VR headset is intended to be the next big thing and as technology of the future, it cannot be priced at 3,000$. It just can't!

Haha 😂 and people are still believing this story and think it’s coming out. I will use the phrase told you so… I comment way back in January and December that come February time story’s will start emerging saying it was delayed till summer. Come April time it will be announced it’s delayed till late 2023. Face it there is no VR/AR from apple it’s obvious and if you believe this story then you’re a gullible internet daffy who believes stories and fake news. Haha 😂 once again the AR/VR delay story appears. Apple VR/AR headset delay story since 2015

It took the iPhone and Apple Watch years to get to the phenomenal and affordable products that they are today. Product development takes time to perfect. I know this Apple AR/VR product is gonna be marvelous 8 years in. We will have to see though if this 1st generation is ground breaking revolutionary like the iPhone was when the great Steve Jobs was running Apple.

Curious, was this AR/VR product Steve Jobs idea/vision or is this Tim Cooks idea?

The timing is better, and in person WWDC will mean everyone who flew in for the for it, can try the Apple Super Goggles first hand.
You’re living in cloud nine if think this will be shown in June. This rumour has been flying around since 2015 and every year it’s the same thing. If it’s not ready for “ April “ it won’t be ready for June and apple are not doing live events anymore it’s pre recoded events with hands on shows limited availability in June. Apple are not doing A/R v\R and this is just a stupid rumour by fan boys. Every year it’s the same and every few weeks it gets delayed

Exactly as many of us believed.
No better place to debut a new device, running a completely new OS, than WWDC. Looking forward to this. Here’s hoping they don’t come out of the gate with a $3,000 device. I think those optics, alone, would not go over well - no matter its capabilities. Should be interesting…

Something I do at work sometimes : give a deadline a week or two before the real deadline, to give some additional margin.

I believe the top managers at Apple told their employees it would be announced in April, just to make really really sure it was ready for WWDC.

Because WWDC is THE platform to announce a new product segment and new SDKs.

What if the $3000+ Vr have a 60hz display…………..
What if the $3000+ Vr comes with no chargers……...
What if the $3000+ Vr needs 3hrs to be fully charged……….
What if the $3000+ Vr follows the design language and weight of iBrick 14 Pro and Fatbook Pro……….

I think Apple has the right approach. The technology behind the iPhone didn't come out of thin air. You often need to build the truck before the car. Especially since the headset is similar to the Mac Pro in many ways. It enables professional workflows that trickle down to everything else. It will probably be an iterative process to mass market with some sort of cross-over vehicle in the middle.

It'll do everything you do today on your 2D screen, but faster, thanks to its input methods like eyes tracking (as a pointer) and (virtually limitless) hand gestures.
I mean, I get it, but that’s a bit short sighted. Will we wear this sitting down? Will we walk all over our house in it? Walk around the neighborhood? Will we drive wearing it? Will we have it on for all of our grocery shopping? Out on a Friday night? If yes to any of those, what will we be using it for in those situations? What functionality in 3-D will it be providing? There’s a lot more to it since the potential here is so huge. What will it offer at launch? What’s coming in the future? Lots to consider

I get that it will be quite capable as a stand a lone device, but they need a peripheral computer that can actually power graphics intensive VR apps, and right now they have hardware that's equivalent to about a 3060, so more than 5 years behind the cutting edge in gaming/VR. Maybe they need to delay so that they can announce it with some new iMac with more robust rendering capabilities.
