Apple Statement
iPhone has already passed several of its required certification tests and is on schedule to ship in late June as planned. We can’t wait until customers get their hands (and fingers) on it and experience what a revolutionary and magical product it is. However, iPhone contains the most sophisticated software ever shipped on a mobile device, and finishing it on time has not come without a price — we had to borrow some key software engineering and QA resources from our Mac OS X team, and as a result we will not be able to release Leopard at our Worldwide Developers Conference in early June as planned. While Leopard's features will be complete by then, we cannot deliver the quality release that we and our customers expect from us. We now plan to show our developers a near final version of Leopard at the conference, give them a beta copy to take home so they can do their final testing, and ship Leopard in October. We think it will be well worth the wait. Life often presents tradeoffs, and in this case we're sure we've made the right ones. [Apr 12, 2007]

How depressing! I was really hoping for a Spring release. That means I will have to wait until October to buy a Mac with Leopard on it....

dam this is bad PR for apple......
i hate updating OS during my semester, so this is bad news. on the other hand, the iphone OS will be sweeeeeeeeeeeeet
I hope their not gonna do a vista thing and have it out June of 2008. I guess will get a release date at MWSF

Although this is probably true it sure sounds fishy..

The iPhone utilizes a lot of Leopard technology. If they can get the iPhone out with this technology in June WHY does it take FOUR more months to deliver Leopard ?

Bring on all the 10.4.10 arguments again.

Well at lest we get a preview. I think a lot of people (myself included) were clambering for an early release because we have been so starved of information.

That's going to hurt hardware sales short term. I know a lot of folks were waiting to buy something with 10.5 on it. Gives me more time to save up for a MBP instead of a MB, though. ;)

** COPIED AND PASTED FROM ANOTHER THREAD **
I guess this is where it belongs.

MORE REASONS to hate the damn iPhone.
Now they certainly do look stupid and dissapoint people.
People who love Apple for their computers and software.
People who really care a *&^@! less about an overpriced and overhyped built-in-ipod-and-phone.

WTF..... Apple.... WTF

ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS THAT Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard BETTER BE PRETTY KICK ASS

AND THE iPhone BETTER BE PRETTY KICK ASS TOO (since I am going to buy one)

Is anyone really surprised, though?

June was only a month and a bit away. And we still haven't heard much about much-touted "secret" features, product announcements, etc. You surely don't release the OS to the developers (and end users!) totally out of the blue.

I suspect we all figured it was going to be far later than June, even if we weren't willing to say so.

I hope it's because they need to work on their 'super secret feature' that has yet to be seen.

Multi-Touch OS!!!

I was getting doubtful of spring, but I didn't think OCTOBER. What a huge disappointment. I guess no iLife until then either.

Boo.

Because it has to run on a G3, G4, G5, CD and C2D with a variety of video cards and peripherals?
