I can understand why they would've wanted to do why they did, and let's face it, we cannot know even 1% of apple's full picture.

AFAICR, Steve said "we hope to get Leopard to you in the spring" (someone correct me if necessary). However, they made the "iPhone in June" statement VERY clear to everyone, i mean EVERYONE. The hit they would've suffered if the iPhone hadn't made it in June would've been huge. PLUS the fact that Cingular are relying on apple to get the phone ready on time.

Unlike OSX, like the iPod, the iPhone is a product for everyone (in the US (atm) with a deep enough pocket), i.e. you don't need a Mac for it. Delaying OSX a couple of months, will only affect those who are keenly waiting for it, i.e. most of th MR community. This delay can only be justified if 10.5.0 is stable and jaw-droppingly good, it better be!

Jus to make it clear, I want OSX more/sooner than the iPhone.

This backs up my fears that Apple are seriously neglecting the computer side of their business.

I agree with you. I suspected this may happen by them dropping the "Computer" from their name.

They're becoming a "wanna-do-it-all" company, kinda the way Google is going too.
Apple: Stick to your roots, damn it. :(

The consumer electronics were supposed to be icing on the cake, and not the other way around.

Bummer. This Also Negatively Impacts The 8 Core Mac Pro As Tiger Is Confused In It

Better Late and Right than June and Wrong. Looks like this'll be the longest stretch with no OS update in the history of OS X since we're already at 10.4.9. Seems like the 8 core is going to need a Tiger 8 Core update just to get it working half right in the mean time. Or sales of the 8 core are gonna blow until Leopard can ship with the 2007 SS and by then Penryn motherboard and processors. Our Quad G5s are looking better every day.

Hope Adobe won't have a ripple effect for their Master Collection release. Guess FCS 6 won't be so Leopard dependent after all or it will be delayed as well. :(

This, to me, has FAKE written all over it.

It just doesn't seem right... and although I completely agree that OS X wont be at WWDC... at least not shipped then this release doesn't seem right. It also forgets the:

Apple ignited the personal computer revolution in the 1970s with the Apple II and reinvented the personal computer in the 1980s with the Macintosh. Today, Apple continues to lead the industry in innovation with its award-winning computers, OS X operating system and iLife and professional applications. Apple is also spearheading the digital media revolution with its iPod portable music and video players and iTunes online store, and will enter the mobile phone market this year with its revolutionary iPhone.

It better be worth the wait.

I'm sure we'll still get a preview at WWDC, so at least we will be able to see it. They should offer a public beta like Microsoft did with Vista.

Stupid iPhone

I've gotta admit, this puts Apple is an awkward situation, given how much flak they gave to Microsoft for their delays with Longhorn.

However, I guess it's a good thing that they put their pride aside and are pushing for a shippable Leopard, rather than one that would put them to shame with all its problems.

Sigh... here's to another six long months...

Are you kidding me? When they announced the iPhone, it was reported on for days by every news organization, TV news, Internet news. Soft news shows did 5 minute iPhone puff pieces. If Apple announced it wouldn't ship when they said it would, it would knock Imus off the front pages of newspapers.

A delayed Leopard will not have nearly that effect.
So why would a delay be bad for the iPhone? If anything a delay, after all of the media attention that the iPhone has received, would mean more free advertising.

My main point is Apple is a computer company. I am tired of the iPod and now the iPhone getting in the way of computer and OS design. The fact is unless the cellphone market shifts and/or Apple and Cingular decide to lower the cost of the iPhone I do not see it taking off in any way similar to the iPod.

I certainly know the next OS release has a larger effect on me than the iPhone release.

I was going to wait till june to get a MBP so I could get leopard on it but I dont think that is going to happen. Im so mad! Guess ill be getting one now. :)

This makes me more and more glad that I bought my Mac when I did. I was kinda annoyed at the thought that the Santa Rosa Macs will come shipped with Leopard... but now it looks like they will come only with a very mild speed boost... no Leopard.

EVERYONE QUIT WHINING!

Personally, I havent been all that excited about Leopard, it hasnt had that "Killer Feature" like expose or dashboard. Heres to hoping the wait is worth it, and brings us a REALLY cool top-secret featureset that blows our minds away.

Listen carefully.

You hear that sound?

That's the sound of the thousands of engineers at Microsoft attempting in vain to suppress their laughter.

really? ok.

then they are under contractual obligation to deliver iphone to cingular on a certain date.

(i can come up with many more plausible reasons... :) )

welll let's all remember that this is a $600 phone, and they are going to charge $200? for Leopard...that and the iPhone has gotten so much hype from the national (and i assume world media) i mean cnn had over 2 hours of coverage on the day that the iPhone was announced, microsoft got the same for vista...and that's for an os for %89 of the country...

OS Delay

I'd sooner they delay Leopard than come out with a buggy substandard product. I'm willing to wait. I may not be patient about it, and I may not have much of a choice,,, but I'll wait..

You guys actually believe that bull that Apple is pulling off. "we borrowed developers from OS X to work on the iPhone", give me a break. The fact is, the developer seeds have been bug ridden and that is the real reason for the delay. Technical difficulties are the reason for the delay, given all those "secret" features which I assume are technically challenging ,and well, apparently needs more work.

Definitely this delay is no good news, but I would better wait for a finished product than a semi-finished one.

SHouldn't have talked/annouced that stupid phone.

Oh well - i'm glad i have my computer, i don't wait well..... The rest of the stuff that will be delayed because of it STINKS.

no iLife or anything else i bet - that doesn't bode well for Apple....

Wtf Wtf Wtf Wtf

OMG  I do NOT beleive this! This is the most f$#%cked up news of 2007! Delay Leopard in order to develop a f#^@$$%#ing cell phone    Brilliant, Apple. Just totally f@#%@ing brilliant.

Dude, I'm gettin a Dell. Vista is already out.
