AirPrint
Print mail, photos, web pages, and more directly to a printer on a wireless network.
No changes on that page. Who should we believe? Macstories? Appleinsider? Apple? If they were "cancelling" it wouldn't Apple have updated that page already?

So we are supposed to believe this because allegedly a developer contacted Apple "Support"? Uh, yeah as if someone on the support line would have more up to date information than the Apple website. Right. The supposed tech support person probably just wanted to get the call over with if it even happened in the first place.

No, it's not true. I'm now using iOS 4.2GM with my iPhone 4. I CAN print to my Brother 7240 Printer shared by a Windows 7 64bits PC. :D

If this is true and it is indeed cancelled due to incompatibilities I bet anything
Its incompatibilities with HP printers. Those things always have problems doing anything network related.

ANd before anyone flames and says HP printers are great, you haven't networked near as many as I have. They have issues.

It is not an article. It is a "rumour" from another site which plagiarized another site. Ever played telephone as a kid?

Usually, when MacRumors posts something, there is credibility behind it.

But seeing the comments from developers on this site and others, it does look like a false rumor.

The article actually says that much. However it also says that the feature was unstable and Apple does not like "unstable". So they decided to get rid of it in official release. On a bright side, you can still print from your Windows 7 PC ;)

Do you mean like Verizon iPhone in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 multiple times?

Looks like I won't be updating my iPad or iPhone software if this is the case. AirPrint has been working fine for me on my Canon printer, and now my wife even uses the iPad to print stuff all the time, especially bills for work reimbursement and things like that. She would be really upset if this disappeared. Guess I'll just keep what I have until they update it, but I have serious doubts about this rumor.

This article doesn't say it won't work from an Airport Extreme...

It never was intended to work from an AirPort Extreme.

If you read what you have quoted, it states that it only prints directly to printers, not via a Mac or PC anymore.

HP printers. Right... A lot of companies build their workflows around HP printers. For example, Troy Printers are built on top of HP and are used to print cheques secured with magnetic MICR toner.

@retroneo: You can continue to believe rumour sites like this one but don't forget that there is no Verizon iPhone even though it has been talked to death in supposed "credible" rumours from 2007 onward. If it was delayed or cancelled, Apple would have removed referenced to it from their 4.2 site as it is scheduled for release some time this week.

They did come out with a Verizon iPhone in 2007, just to the elite few who know SJ. Duh? :D

In all seriousness, it seems MacRumors does at least a bit more source patrol compared to other Apple rumor outlets.

You can update your iOS software (you will have to - the 4.2 betas will expire)

You will want to keep iTunes 10.1 beta for Windows and the earlier builds of 10.6.5

I believe iOS 4.2GM will be the official release, 99.999%.

I don't understand why this is so hard to implement. I've been printing from my Android phone since I got it almost a year ago. If iOS truly is "Mac OS X," can't they just use CUPS?

I'm a little confused. Would my printer still work with Airprint? It is connected wirelessly to my Airport Extreme (it has its own IP address). It is an HP photosmart printer.

So it seems that there is an issue with the driver software on 10.6.5 so we might have to wait for 10.6.6 for printing to printers connected to Snow Leopard macs but it does not seem like it is going to disappear from 4.2.

In a nutshell, it will work on windows but not Snow Leopard because of driver issues until either 10.6.6 or a patch to 10.6.5.

So if we keep the iTunes 10.1 beta, we'll still be able to use AirPrint through a PC/Mac?
