Airplay is next to go bye bye!!!!!!!

Airplay will be next!!!!! Steve Jobs will say you don't need it!!!!!

Anyone see those printers with what looks like a iPod Touch attached to it that allows you to print out crafts, movie tickets, maps, etc. That would be a nice "App" for iOS to use AirPrint.

Someone create it and charge 99 cents and I'll buy it.

I could never get airprint to work on my networked printer. after spending some time trying to get it to see my printer i just gave up. maybe ill take another crack at it later.

What kind of idiots are Apple employing if they can't get this working? Printing is one of those basic, included in the OS concepts that is on Windows and Macs. All they have to do is have a program that prints something. Millions of programs manage to do that. Then they just need to handle the copying over the network to the program. Seeing as Macs have had printing to file inbuilt since bloody ages ago this is surely no issue. At the very basic level, print to PDF as OSX does right now and then send it over the network to the little server on the computer that does the printing.

*If* this is true then it is thoroughly, thoroughly embarrassing.

First, is it just the support or the actual functionality that is rumored to being dropped? Second, surely Apple foresaw potential incompatibilities months ago. I find this hard to believe.

My printer ran out of ink 2 years ago. Ironically though, I'd probably would be likely to print from iOS than I am from my Mac.

Printing is a hobby bag of hurt.
If you want to print, do it from your truck, er, computer.
I hate trucks, er, Xserves.
Stay tuned for more magic.

S. Jobs

So what does iOS 4.2 bring to iPhone now AirPrint has been pulled?

For those people who say printing should stop, unfortunately, it's not that simple. Many places - by law - need to have paper copies of documents. Partially because what happens if your iPad or computer crashes? You'd lose it. Also, computers make it easier to copy/change things. Plus, I'm sure there are many other reasons for having things on paper.

This is a very disappointing turn of events that is for sure. I was really looking forward to having printing. It is getting old having to email myself a document and then go to my Mac and pull it up and printing it from there.

I was really looking forward to the new iOS on my iPad, but printing was one of the big attractions. Now it is all kind of disappointing.

Bummer. Hopefully they get it sorted by 10.6.6

This is a perfect example of why I have a HATRED of Windows. I'm not going to the da*mn registry and screwing around with a bunch of f***n dll's and all that crap...

The Mac OS may not be perfect, and I'm sure the Linux geeks think they're the S**t, but after years of using Apple's products and having to provide troubleshooting and support for my friend's and colleague's Windows machines, I'LL TAKE A MAC EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR!!!!

Your mad at Windows because it offers a way to get something which Apple removed? Shouldnt you be mad at Apple? Also the solution offered didn't require registry editing. The terminal is present on OS X for power users. Ive had to use it to repair file permissions. Your just a dumb user who doesnt seem to understand certain features of your OS.

It doesn't work in that beta. I tried it last night. I confirmed it in the original thread that was merged with this (which no one read).

Sorry, but it does, I have printed today without problems both with iOS 4.2 GM and MOX 10.6.5 10H574. Or may I'm just dreaming and haven't still wake up...

Uncle Steve has been trying to push iOs to enterprise customers and he also knows that printing capability is a big deal to them, that's why he announced printing capability in November. It would be a big bag of hurt and lost sales right before the big holiday push if they (Apple) decided to sh_t can the whole process.

I will organize a million fan boy march to Cupertino, followed by two class action suits, if this is not reinstated.

Seriously, what are we doing right now without this feature.............

Yes! Just PRINT!

What ?!, can Apple really take away features they announce officially (mac events) and not be sued? I mean people will say "I bought the iphone 4/iPad/iPod touch for this and this feature and it's not there".

Bingo.

Works for me! :D

I was worried when I first read this, but I just installed the latest 10.6.5 and tried printing from my iPad (4.2 GM) and it worked perfectly. :)

It's possible that they might still pull it, but it seems too close to the (alleged) release date for 10.6.5 and 4.2. Supposedly they are going public this week. Maybe if they push the release back they will have time to remove the feature...

As I posted here, maybe that's why they seeded a beta of 10.6.6 even before 10.6.5 is publicly released? Anyone checked those binaries?

Either that, or printer manufacturers got Jobs to purposely delay it in order to solidify some sales with the new AirPrint-compatible printers. Wouldn't that be a heck of a conspiracy theory!

It's magical device. You don't need to print.
I will stick with my 4.2 GM for a long time before they fix this crap.

Wait, my understanding is that the GM of iOS 4.2 is the version that will be released this week (or whenever Apple chooses to release it). Designation of it as GM means they are most likely installing it on iPhones, iPads, iPod Touches at the factory now so that when you buy a new device next week, or whenever, it will have the new OS on it.

At least, that's the normal definition of a GM. Someone please correct me if Apple doesn't roll that way, so to speak.

Sounds like the ability is being removed in the OS, which is kind of clunky...

If true - this is bad news. One wonders if it's a technical issue which they cannot resolve (yet) or if they pulled it in fear of a lawsuit because they (at current) are infringing on patents or something and want to avoid more charges. Not wearing a tin foil hat - but if developers had it working (I don't remember reading of issues?) one has to wonder - why pull it?
