I can't (don't want to) imagine what would happen if this policy spreads to other carriers, particularly with international flights. The Custom Officials (Aduana) in South American ports have not earned much if any trust from travelers. And Miami, of all places, has one of the worst reputations for baggages being opened and Customs people treating themselves to early Christmas presents. We have had poles/or crowbars rammed down through one piece, in the past.

I know what you mean. Orlando is as trustworthy as Miami. On a recent government test, Orlando's screeners failed to find weapon-shaped items in luggage and carry-on baggage, though they probably found extra income.

I guess a gun is no longer a threat but a computer is.

Apple's notebooks haven't ever had the exploding problem, have they? I know they have sometimes had a bulging issue, but they haven't exploded yet...

To the point, a pinch of logic for our airline knee-jerkers and any gov't official with 'bright' ideas...

banned laptops=banned business travelers. Yeilding significant loss of revenue. Leading to pedodentisms of bankruptcy proportions.

Pedodentism. (n) the act of inserting one's foot in one's mouth. -Source: Patrick's daffynitions.

That's ok, the US government will go on propping these idiots up as they have been doing for years. If the free market had any say the airlines would have all been bankrupt years ago because they're run as if a drunken chimp were in charge. But rather than letting them suffer their fate, the government continues to bail them out, so the parade of incompetence goes on.

Just glue a IBM sticker over the Apple and they'll never know:p

Stupid airlines. I hope they don't ban MBP's or MB's:)

Might have to do the sticker thing. Latest update was you can use these laptops provided you remove the battery and use inseat power.

Thats great provided you can afford first class!!!!!! Grrrrrr......

I'd rather be safe knowing some idiot couldn't have brought a defective battery on the plane I'm on... Arrive alive, as we say in Florida!

Have you cleaned out your bunker too? The one you build in the 60s when the commies were going to invade, to make ready when terrorists strapped with ibooks and powerbooks start raining out of the sky shouting "God is great" in Arabic?

hey anything is possible, dude. I keep my bunker well stocked with hurricane supplies, very little ammo nowadays...

You would never know how bad an airline qantas is until you've flown with them. I haven't been on that many carriers but I can say that qantas has the worst service ever available to mankind.

Next thing you know they wont be letting people on flights. They expel far too much CO2 and pose a toxic atmosphere threat to the cabin of the aircraft.

Yesterday, Qantas said that Dell notebook users could only use their laptop on a plane on battery power, or with the battery removed and the unit plugged into the power outlet in first or business class.
Umm, that doesn't make sense.

"oh yeah, you can ONLY use the laptop on battery power... or wall power"
Wow, they sure are putting limitations on us.

Allahu Ackbar!!

Makes you laught doesn't it. The problems only affect some Dells and some older Apples and ONLY when running on mains power with battery in for extended periods.

So......no Apple/Dells on a plane running on battery...hmmm... You can run on mains but without the battery...hmmm....discriminates people not in 1st class.

Its stupid really. Apple say the only affected lappies are iBooks and PB. So airlines ban all Apples.

Hell....Apple have said iPod batteries are safe so why not ban them in case they explode.

Oh well, at least I can take my safety matches on the plane with me..

The thing is as Apple only did a selective recall, are you willing to stake a few hundred million dollar plane, as well as potentially billions of dollars worth of lawsuits should that battery blows the plane up, on Apple's judgement?

Ban the laptops, at least we can all fly safe.

I think they need to check to make sure its not a bad battery

Simple-Show the laptop--is it a iBook 12'' or PB 12'' or 15''.. if it is have them check the serial numbers of the battery. For the 17'' PowerBook, MacBook and MBP, its not hard to check if its one if them.

17''PB- It has a 17'' screen
17''MBP-17'' screen and the IR port also says MacBook Pro on it
15'' MBP IR port, and say MacBook Pro on it
MacBook-13'' Magsafe port, keyboard change, and Says MacBook on it

Just make a checklist of how to tell if its on the the effected laptops, and then check those battery's

That not hard

Sounds like a logical idea, lets ban people from all flights as well....just to be on the safe side. :D

LOL :D That was funny Kingsly. :)

Kingsly, I know you were just saying it out of fun. I would expect, as a muslim, some respect. Teasing the phrase 'Allah (God) is the most Great' is just not on. Don't make religious or racial jokes.

And just for the record, it's Allahu Akbar.
