I don't think we can trust Apple's statement on this issue since the FBI/government could have ordered the affected companies to deny it ever happened for national security purposes.

I don't think we should trust that the Earth is globe, because (insert whatever you like here).

That's a baseless assumption without anything to back it up, therefore it's worthless.

I am not surprised if it’s true.
Business is businesse. All these companies are corrupted beyond imagined. Look at what Facebook did with our data selling it for profit.

I believe it to be true.

But with regards to Facebook....what else were they supposed to do with your data? That has been their business from the start.

OK, that's a fair point.

Mind you, Bloomberg do seem to be very sure of this.

I'm not American, but could it be that they've been asked to say nothing by the CIA/FBI on this as 'investigations are ongoing'?

Not trying to be a conspiracy theorist, nor am I wanting to make out that Apple (or any of the other companies) are liars, I'm just musing over what could've happened.
They didn’t “say nothing.” They strongly denied everything. The fbi can’t make them lie. They might be able to make them be quiet.

Lol but but .... what about freedom of the press, apple? What about the term fake news, being fake news, and the president’s “siege” against the press? What about the news app propping up “important journalism”?

Don’t like it when it’s directed at you huh?

I’m afraid this will just be the start :D

I said when batterygate happened it’s just the tip of the iceberg for slimy Tim Cook pitching the same PR pitch aimlessly steering his leaky 1 trillion dollar ship

You reap what you sow

And apple is in bed with China. They are beginning to rub people the wrong way, with reality distortion fields way down and prices way up

“I wouldn’t worry or get hung up on servers being located in China” Tim tells the vice reporter. Apparently people ARE hung up on it

The apple ceo has a China First mantra.
I know you are totally disillusion but I will try anyway.
Fake news are not ok unless explicitly specified at the head of each article that its fake (or satire).
In fact, I would go as far as to say that reporting fake news should be punishable by fines. It might be an extreme but look how many people out there believe nonsense only because News was allowed to serve it.
Not every person has IQ and emotional IQ high enough to filter nonsense so we get people who believe the earth is flat etc.
Its total news manipulation and these days when you read something its almost as if you need to research it first before you even believe if its correct or not. Thats how far "freedom of speech" got us. Can't trust anyone

We do business with China, look away from their very obvious dictatorial, KGB-ish antics because their stuff is cheap, and then complain when **** like this happens.

It's not like the US's intelligence agencies are any friendlier.

Only buying from one's own country doesn't strike me as sustainable.

Most, not all, but most of these comments prove to me you didn’t read the article. It’s long but very fascinating and would make for a lovely spy/tech thriller. Of course Apple denys, as do others. You have to.

they need to try again. Additionally there needs to be more suppliers of iPhone parts in the US. The problem is the US doesn’t have the resources and the US hasn’t been in the manufacturing/assembly game in awhile. Would take a significant amount of government and corporate investment to make such things happen.

Not only that - we in the West outsourced the pollution associated with this mass, low-cost production to China as well as gthe human costs of effectively slave labour. Now, I dislike many of Trump's views immenensly, but not all he says is false or inaccurate. Globalism is far from a universal good.

Look at Amazon's Bezos - he is rich off by having people work for pittance under bad conditions, selling more and more crap (causing consumer waste) with low cost stuff produced in China by wage-slaves and packaged in the USA and Europe - by wage slaves. He owns newspapers, pays as little tax as possible (legal, not moral) - and donates to the Democratic party, because, you know, the Republicans are all evil...

And yet noone in the main-stream media wants to highlight this because, you know, Russia, Trump bad. And to make this relevant, I would not be surprised if this Bloomberg allegation is true, heck the NSA does it with allies like Germany...

"There is no monopoly on common sense on either side of the political fence.” oh dear, I just quoted a Sting lyric

I dunno, seems to me the evidence was pretty clear back in 2015 Apple removed and replaced all infected servers. They were using over 7000 dirty machines.

And in 2016 it was well documented Apple removed another infected server, then cut ties with the company.

So not sure why apple is denying anything here, or is that just what the article says?

Why would Apple have to deny the story? It wouldn't be their fault.

Sounds like they are being very upfront and vocal. Keep in mind it in the interest of stock manipulation to make false comments on a Trillion dollar company. Apple normally remains silent on things, but clearly this is a falsehood they couldn’t let continue to fly.

This was a concern 10+ years ago that someone would put chips in Wifi routers, netowork cards, etc and be able to access your data. It's not a stretch to think this has/is/was happening.

What if the trade war is in part a ploy by the US government to force US companies out of China for precisely this very reason? Trump would provide the perfect cover. People think he’s just being himself, and no one suspects the real reason.

Either way, what probably happened is that Apple found malicious chips in their hardware which was subsequently never deployed. That’s why nothing was ever found in any “server”, because the compromised hardware never made it there.

Since this is a rather sensitive political matter, they have every incentive to keep it under wraps. Either way, I am confident Apple has not been compromised in any way by this matter.

Who has the tech to make such a small chip with this ability?

IF the image is correct it only uses three electrical contacts!

Please, lets not go down the path of believing this is even true! It's just someones idea of fiction.

That was very different that was a firmware hack so the hardware was not altered only is coding.

While technology has moved forward no one has a chip this small with this ability at this point of time. This is just click bait or someones idea of fun.
