We're not your babysitters. Time to take care of yourself. The free handouts are gone. USAID, all of that BS. It isn't our job to take care of healthcare in Africa.
This is it. This is the simple man’s answer.

The world reliance on USA defence services, USAID, the stable dollar is EXACTLY what makes you a superpower in the world. We all want to be your friend!!!

Now, America looks like a schmuck!

We’ll build our own defence systems, your number one export around the world will be greatly diminished. Your soft power will be absorbed by CHINAID.

In a country that won’t even support/fund Medicare who do you think it’s funding the NSA? The rest of the world in services we buy.

There were no free handouts, America in my life has never done anything for free.

This view is so incredibly shortsighted and lacks any understanding of all the benefits that accrue domestically (financially and other) from soft power, influence and reputation.

It is not unusual to donate to a cause that benefits more than just your own wallet.
Maybe someone should tell that to Tim Cook. Or do you really think, that he tried to butter up that orange laughing stock because he stands behind Trump's "values"?

It also ignores the fact that such a view is the death of American leadership in the world.

Correct.

That has knock-on effects that nobody is even thinking about as everyone alive and posting here has no first hand recollection of any other world besides the one run by American leadership and fully deployed worldwide hard & soft power.

Outcomes are on the table here that folks normally would have considered pure fantasy -- or dystopia.

Nah. The flop of the vision BS has shown them they can't overcharge for gimmicks.

They could just keep the already imported vision pros in their warehhouses and wait until the rising prices of everything makes it cheaper in comparison.

If China wants to throw their money at someone else's problems, have at it.

if Apple stock drops to $100 in the next couple of weeks, I'm buying as many shares as I can afford.

yes, I know that sounds incredibly stupid. but my feeling is that if Apple stock crashes that low, it will eventually bounce back... it may take months or years, but in the end, it will bound back. If it doesn't, my guess is that the US economy has also crashed beyond repair(worse than the Great Depression)... in which case, it doesn't matter if I'm holding on to worthless Apple stocks... we will all probably be roaming the streets looking for food or worse...

in the old days, I had many shares of Pan Am stock that I eventually used as toilet wall paper just for fun. Too bad companies rarely issue paper stocks these days. :)

At $3,499 and the way the economy is, did you really expect it to be a blockbuster hit? lol. Where are people getting that type of money? I’m sure Apple didn’t plan for it to a hit at that price. Anyone with a brain would tell them yeah, this isn’t going to sell millions upon millions.

If it sinks low enough, maybe they'll finally do the thing that's been past due for about 10 years... Remove Tim Cook. How couldn't he see that manufacturing in China wasn't the correct thing to do about, I don't know, 8 years ago?

It’s understandable to feel frustration about foreign aid, especially when it seems like endless resources are being poured into issues far from home. But framing it as “babysitting” misses a broader reality.

Much of U.S. foreign aid—including USAID—hasn't just been charity; it's often strategic. Investments in global health have helped prevent pandemics from reaching American shores, stabilized regions that could otherwise fuel conflict or mass migration, and created partnerships that benefit U.S. influence and security.

As for Africa—it's a continent of 1.4 billion people, many of whom are working incredibly hard to build stronger systems with limited resources. Healthcare investments there have led to real results: millions of lives saved, disease outbreaks contained, and economic opportunities unlocked.

Helping others doesn’t mean neglecting ourselves. It’s not about handouts—it’s about mutual benefit, stability, and in many cases, fulfilling moral responsibilities tied to historical and global systems we’re all part of.

Yet, it was the “correct” thing to do *financially* as it turned Apple into a trillion dollar company.

No one could have foreseen in 2008 or 2012 that such a deranged, ignorant, demented demagogue as Trump would ever become president! Or, that global trade would be decimated by a future single mad, out-of-control, tariff-thumping fool.

As to 2017 — 8 years ago — checks-and-balances mostly curbed Trump's vile Know Nothing impulses— and Cook got Trump to exempt Apple from his first-term tariffs! No doubt, he and the Apple Board figured they could do the same this go around. $1 million, however, from Cook personally wasn’t enough appeasement when Musk was bankrolling Trump's campaign for $250 million. Even Musk is railing against the tariffs. Musk, however, erred he thinking he could control Trump or in believing Trump would never do anything this dumb.

I don't think Apple takes the time to create anything just hoping it sells a little. They want the next big thing that is going to explode and take over. I think they misjudged how badly people want something like that.

I'd call Apple a spiral death stock at this point. Trump seems to want tech to die so we can just all get back to being obedient coal miners (he really does want coal to make a comeback).

Buy AAPL when it hits $70.
Apple stock will go back up once the tariff situation has been sorted. It’s gone back up 11% today. The stock market seems to love tech stocks and throws out all their usual rational when pricing tech stocks.

It's because these days the whole market lives and breathes off the hype & pump of tech stocks

It largely "is" the market and we (Americans) are all "in it" one way or another.

I bet the banks and big stock market traders made a fortune today at the expense of the average American who is just trying to save for their retirement.

Trump will completely destroy Apple this year. Timmy should have paid him $1B and not just $1M.

AAPL will probably be $25 by Christmas.

do you really think any amount of money would have changed things?

Trump seems to have no concerns about screwing Tesla with tariffs even though Elon bought him the presidency.

PSA: Following Trump's Wed PM announcement on tariff suspension (excl. China), AAPL current cap is 2.93T (vs. MSFT 2.88T).

So this story is moot already. Lol!

The only way that stock market traders and banks made money at the expense of average Americans is if they are dumb enough to have panic sold (and if they were that dumb they should not be playing in the stock market at all).
